“Storms make trees take deeper roots”. – Dolly Parton

In grief recovery we have some common phrases people try to tell those who have suffered a loss that mean well but do not actually help the griever. One of them is… “Be strong for your family”. This idea has been passed down through many generations. What this is really telling the griever is don’t allow yourself to feel the pain or shut down your emotions, we don’t want to see you in pain, it makes us uncomfortable.

Our Creator has a different idea, grow strong in your weakness. Some of us have been gifted with abundant strength and stamina; others have received a gift of frailty. Frailty is not a punishment, nor does it indicate a lack of faith. It just means you will live by faith developing the ability to trust your Creator to get you through the day.

Our natural inclination is to plan out each day, knowing what will happen and when. Our Creator’s preference is for you to depend on Him continually, trusting Him to guide you and strengthen you as needed. This is how we can grow strong in our weakness.
