“Living is the art of getting used to what we didn’t expect.” —Eleanor C. Wood

Raise your hand if you are living the life you expected when you were in your early twenties? I suspect not many of you would raise your hand in the affirmative.

When I was at UT Austin, heading down to 6th street on a Friday or Saturday night, my idea for my future was to be a comedian or actor. I wore Miami Vice type clothes (very popular show at that time) and thought I could make it out to Hollywood or New York and be on Saturday Night Live. I used to love to make impressions. I would leave funny messages on my answering machine impersonating popular characters from TV shows and movies. My friends loved it.

Reality finally set in, I had no money, just enough to pay the rent and continue going to classes. One week it got so bad I tried passing the hat around our apartment complex just to borrow enough money to eat something and came up empty. My brother and I settled for an old box of Bisquick and a little milk to make biscuits until our parent’s emergency check arrived. We swore to each other at that moment that we would get our degree and get the heck out of our roach infested apartment and get good jobs. My dream of going to Hollywood or New York faded and so I turned my focus to getting my first sales job.

Many of you may have similar stories meaning you didn’t end up where you expected to be at this point in time. I believe our Creator has you right where you were meant to be whether you think it is good or bad or somewhere in-between. No matter where you are, our Creator is available to guide you if you let Him.

Psalm 32:8 & James 1:5

Blessing to you all!

P.S. What a great road win at the “Big House”, guess we own another “HOUSE” away from Austin eh?
