In Micronesian, the word kukaro has no corresponding word in English. When people use that word, they mean they are going to relax, sit around, hang out. They are being, not doing.

Summertime. Long sunny days. School's out! Time for a vacation, or maybe a day trip to a water park or a ball game. Or lie down under a tree and just enjoy the shade. Those days don't seem full of accomplishment, and that may well be their best feature. As Winnie the Pooh observed, "We didn't know we were making memories; we were just having fun."

These little intervals of peace, this sense of almost endless BEING, not DOING, are essential to our ability to get some things done later. My buddy @Bmk1989 calls it a "braincation." That's what enables our mind to stop focusing on the tasks, and instead be opened up to a new idea, a creative moment, an unplanned adventure of thought and experience.

In Mark 6: 30-31, the disciples are busy telling Jesus about all that they had done and taught, as He had directed. Hearing this, He told them to "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place, and rest a while." Good advice, from a guy who knew a little bit about giving advice.

Blessings and Peace,
NT
