The important thing is not to conquer but to have fought at all.
~~~~~~~~~ Olympic motto
As the world gets ready for the summer Olympics, we know we will see a true gathering of nations, each sponsoring its best athletes. When the Longhorns took the field against USC on Jan 4, 2006, Keith Jackson famously told the broadcast audience that "The royalty of college football is in assembly." And so it is with the Olympics. The world's greatest athletes will meet in competition, joined together by their love and respect for the same activity. They are in assembly.
Most of them won't leave with a medal, yet they have trained as hard as their competitors, and they will share the same contagious joy and excitement in being there. All of us will have some renewed hope that the sharing of worldwide joy and peace is truly possible, even if only briefly.
Back to real life. Whether we win a medal or not, whether we succeed in what we do, or not, what's important is the heart with which we live our lives. Did we win this day? Did we work hard at life and love? Did we stay sober? Did we lead by example, and show others that we can be trusted, that they can rely on us? God His ownself will smile down at His creation.
Blessings and love, brothers and sisters.
