Texas football coach Tom Herman addressed the media via Zoom after practice on Saturday.

Here the highlights:

- Juwan Mitchell and Al'Vonte Woodard had to be helped off the field. He said they sustained stingers. In addition, Omeire tweaked his knee. Said it was non-contact.

- Herman said snaps for the ones were in the 40s, and between 12 to 15 for the twos.

- He was asked about students returning to campus and said they can't emphasize it more than they already have. He believes the players are well aware for the precautions they need to take.

- Herman said 90 percent of the team will take online classes.

- He did not notice a change on the field after the Big 12's announcement this week. However, he did see a change in their demeanor.

- Herman said no players from the Big Ten or Pac 12 have contacted him about transferring

- Herman said the players are eager to play this season. They understand the inconvenience is not unique to UT, which calms the players. He said the most mature, level-headed, rule-following team has the best chance to win this season.

- Herman said was this was the first scrimmage since December. He believed the effort was great, but the scrimmage was sloppy.

He said the offense had too many false start and pre-snap penalties. Herman did not like the pass interference penalties on defense.

There was some offensive success with ones and twos.

However, the defense won Saturday's scrimmage because the pre-snap penalties hurt the offense.

“Very pleased like with the effort,” Herman said. “I thought the defense flew around and was very physical. We made some plays on offense …. when it when it comes to the fine tuning of execution, we've got a long way to go. We as coaches all understood that at heading into scrimmage one of training camp, which is normally pretty sloppy to begin with. Then throw in the fact that these guys hadn't played real football since December, and we kind of knew what to expect. I was just really happy with the effort.”

- Herman said he is very impressed with the freshmen class because they have adjusted to the culture and shown flashes in practice.

- In addition, Herman said defensive back Montrell Estelle has stood out during training camp. He also mentioned defensive linemen Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton, linebackers Jaylan Ford and Jaden Hulaby, and defensive back Jahdae Barron. Each player has flashed during practice.

- Herman said he believes they have used 82 or 83 scholarships so far.

- Herman said Jake Smith was voted to the leadership council: “A guy that has been here right around a year. He got here last June. The kids really look up to him. He's doing a great job leading.”
