Didn't see this posted anywhere, this was from last Saturday. I'd like to think we live in a world where stopping to check if people ok isn't big news, but we don't. We as a society (I am guilty of this as well) are so consumed with our own business/agendas and getting everywhere as fast as possible that we may miss a chance to help someone in need.

I've done both (helped and drove by) in my life but it all depends on the situation. I've helped at a wreck that just happened in front of me with the SUV flipped over and a woman stuck inside. Two other men jumped out to help which was great to see. We all need to slow down and help each other out sometimes. Glad to see Herman being a role model.

About 10 years ago I was coming home from Rockport and I was headed north towards Tivoli on hwy35 out of Fulton. I was about halfway to Tivoli and a man and woman were in front of me going the same direction as me, on a motorcycle. A car coming towards us swerved over in our lane so the motorcycle driver tried to swerve to his left to avoid the car headed the wrong direction in our lane. Well, the car was coming so fast that as soon as the motorcycle tried to swerve left, the car hit the motorcycle basically broadside, throwing the man and woman into the median. I of course stopped to render aid. Both the man and woman on the motorcycle had their right legs ripped off. It took probably a good 25 minutes before the volunteer FD got there and probably 45 min. Total for Airflight to arrive. Somehow neither the man or woman lost consciousness but they were in shock and oblivious to the fact that they were each one limb short.

Bad wreck-- stop. Fender bender-- keep going and dial 911.

Why you ask? Stopping in traffic for a fender bender is how bad accidents get caused.
