Here are the highlights:
- Tom Herman was asked about the external expectations from media members. He described it as irrelevant and just noise. He said they aren't out to prove anybody wrong because that would mean they care about what others think.
- Herman said the challenge prior to his arrival was instability. He pointed out the number of coaches and athletic directors in a short period of time at Texas. Herman believes the program is more stable now.
- Herman said he has seen progress on the practice field. Said they were bigger, faster, stronger. Said the winter conditioning went well, and their guys are now playing at a level they haven't seen.
- Herman said their goal is to be in the mix to win a Big 12 championship in the months of November and December.
- Herman said this the second year in a row Texas has played 11 power five opponents. Said that makes the task tougher. Wants that to be addressed.
- Herman pointed out that other programs only play eight or nine power five programs
- When asked about the approach with Maryland, Herman said this isn't a team that thinks it can defeat Texas. He said it is a team that knows it can defeat Texas. Herman expects Maryland to be ready to play and said the off-the-field issues have no bearing on their preparation.
