While most recruiting junkies’ focus on Wednesday was on National Signing Day, the Texas staff extended a notable offer in the 2018 class to Carthage running back Keaontay Ingram.
After winning offensive MVP honors in Carthage’s state title game victory, Ingram has seen his stock rise, collecting offers from Oklahoma, UCLA, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Texas Tech, and Baylor over the past two months.
The Texas offer on Wednesday, however, was particularly meaningful for the East Texas standout.
“It feels great to be offered by your dream school,” Ingram told Orangebloods shortly after receiving the Texas offer.
Of note, Ingram said he was very impressed by the track record of new running backs coach Stan Drayton and feels it will have an effect on his decision.
“It has an extreme effect in the process,” Ingram said. “He obviously knows what he is doing.”
The Carthage running back says he also followed Tom Herman during his stop at the University of Houston, and he loves the new Texas coach’s energy.
“[Tom Herman] is a great coach,” Ingram said. “[I like] the energy that he brings and [how he] relates to the generation now a days and his personality,” Ingram said.
With visits to TCU and Texas A&M’s junior days under his belt, Ingram says he likely to travel to Austin next Texas Junior Day on the 25 as well.
