You will not believe this one...had to render first aid to a 17 yo kid who accidentally shot himself in the thigh with a 9mm while his parents were out of town. He said he was cleaning it but I didn’t see a cleaning kit on the table.
I was cleaning the garage and I could hear some yelling for help. I thought it was kids playing but my wife said I need to check it out so I did. I started running when it sounded legit and I see this kid laying at his door threshold and a small dog in the yard. He had dragged himself to the door (long line of blood from his table).
He said he couldn't get his phone to work to call 911 so I got the ambulance there etc. The really hard part was calling his dad and having to explain why he was hearing a strangers voice on his sons phone (I do actually know the father he did some work for me about 5 years ago but instead confusing how m trying to explain who I was I told him I was a neighbor and after a few minutes I told him who I was etc) And explain his sons situation and the ambulance was on the way.
Had to keep his dad calm and pressure on his sons wounds (entrance/exit on left thigh) and I think and a smaller on the right that I didn’t see when I was checking him.
There’s some more details that I will spare but let’s just say he had a few things around the gun that were not appropriate for a 17yo. I will follow up with his dad in a couple of days he wants me to come and over.
Please talk to your kids about gun safety!! Crazy thing is I had got home about a half an hour before with 2 new AR15s. A little unsettling and also a little therapeutic to come to my OB community to get it off my chest. Kid looked a lot like my son.
Edit: talked to the dad and his son is stable and will have surgery in the am.
Second Edit: little more serious than I thought. Turns out the bullet shattered his femur and will have a rod put in his leg.
