President Trump personally dictated the false and misleading statement by Trump Jr. about meeting with Russians for dirt on Hillary Clinton, a statement Trump advisers knew carried political and legal peril. Trump personally changed the plan from being truthful and dictated a statement that the meeting was about adoption.
“Now someone can claim the President’s the one who attempted to mislead. Somebody can argue the president is saying he doesn’t want you to say the whole truth.” The statement shows that Trump sought to hide information about contacts between his campaign and Russians that would draw scrutiny from Mueller. It also shows specific intent to mislead about the intent and content of those meetings.
The president’s legal team planned to cast the June 2016 meeting as a potential setup by Democratic operatives, which was flatly untrue. Trump overruled another plan to tell the truth being offered by advisors. The President formulated the Russian adoption lie.
