“My position is simple—I am not going to raise or suspend the debt ceiling (racking up more debt) without significant & real spending cuts attached to it,” said Rep. Chip Roy (R., Texas), a member of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus. “I’ve been negotiating to that end. No apologies.”
Earlier Trump had targeted Roy on Truth Social, calling for primary challengers against him. “Chip Roy is just another ambitious guy, with no talent,” Trump said.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) said the reality is that Republicans will need Democratic votes, both in the Senate, which has a 60-vote threshold to advance most legislation, and in the House where Republicans hold a very narrow majority.
“The idea that you can write a bill that doesn’t have to get some bipartisan support ignores the situation on the ground,” Graham said.
