Is this the face of the next UT football coach?

Chip Brown said on ESPN 1300 The Zone that Coach Tom Herman is headed to the 40 Acres after the 2016 season. What do you think?

Here is Houston Coach Tom Herman unveiling his custom $15,000 UH Grill this morning at the hotel before #12 Houston plays #8 Florida State 12pm Thursday Dec 31, 2015.

I think if things don't work out with Strong by the end of next season, then Herman is certainly one of the stronger candidates to come here at that time. And we'd be lucky to get him.

But we have a ways to go before that. It is no given that Strong will do worse next season. Work needs to be put in now. On both sides of the ball. It can happen. I think he has the tools and that passion to fix the D and make it a passionate and disciplined group. And we will find out how good the new hires are on O and what mix they make with the talent we have.

I think it's him or Kelly. I believe this is basically a lame duck season for Charlie. They have made the decision to fire him and he will have to change their mind on the field.

I think that's why Herman pulled his name from jobs this year he knows Texas is likely to open, and he will be one of the top choices.

I don't think Charlie is the right guy here, and I think next season could be his last.

With that said.

I want Charlie to succeed and I'm pulling for him to be the man, I want Texas to win and win now. Outside of performance on the field, there is nothing I don't like about Charlie Strong. Of course that is like saying outside of gambling, there is nothing I don't like about Pete Rose.

It could very well happen. Herman has said that Texas is his dream job. If he keeps winning at UH they won't be able to keep a top tier program from signing him. I'd rather Texas get him than aggy. I think Herman will end up being a fantastic HC at a major power eventually.

Maybe a good position coach:)

I think if he has to choose between Aggy and UT he'll go UT for sure. My guess is Aggy goes after Chad Morris.

When did Herman say that?

Peach Bowl Update: Houston is not intimidated by Florida State. Houston 14-Fla St 3. Houston has ball deep in Fla territory 17 yard line.

Sooooo I'm starting to think I've seen this movie before........

Texas is looking to make a change because things aren't going the way the program is used to so they hire a younger coach with a very short track record as a head coach, in a mid major conference, who has a BCS win under his belt against a higher ranked team from Florida, and won a national title as a coordinator........................................................................

Die Hard 2 for 1000 Alex.

Your right Clob but it's not as if Strong is a bad coach. I think he's a good coach. It's just a bad fit. Kind of like Rich Rod at Michigan. He didn't get dumb over night it was just a bad fit.
I think Herrman would probably fit better than Strong does if a change us made which imo is likely.

Given the current college landscape (this first part is key to what comes next)...........I'm thinking if I was an AD.....I'd never hire a defensive minded HC again, but instead would certainly favor an offensive guru as HC.

I wouldn't say I'd never hire a defensive guy. I mean Nick Saban, Garry Patterson , bob stoops are defensive guys. However. Part of the interview process would be going over Oc's.

I've always felt like offensive guys make the best HC's for some reason, but ruling out defense guys totally could cause you to miss a great one.

I agree with this.

You'd think defensive guys would make good HCs as defense is more about passion and discipline. There are just so many forward thinking offensive guys out there now who are inspiring and doing things. I hope the pairing we have now works. It certainly could. Wish we made the 'who will your OC hire be' more of a priority a few years back.

You have a point, but in reality the we're Texas mantra isn't going to pry away Nick Saban or Urban Meyer. Proven coaches are already employed by big time programs, so no matter who you are you will be diving into unproven waters.

If Houston gets the invite they are positioning themselves for, he will remain the coach of Houston. Book it

Yeah if they get an invite to a power 5 conference no reason for him to leave. Unless he REALLY wants to coach UT which is possible. Similar to Patterson at TCU. While they were a mid major you might of gotten him out of there. Now that they are in the big 12 no reason for him to go. Houston has been s solid program for a while now. If they did get in to a power 5 and were able to hang on to a coach like Herrman look out.
