Meyer pointed to a statement made Saturday by Herman (his former offensive coordinator at Ohio State) not being able to "sprinkle fairy dust" on the Longhorns team he inherited from Charlie Strong (Meyer's former defensive coordinator at Florida) following a loss to Maryland.

Meyer also said Muschamp "blamed us for Florida," referring to a perceived lack of talent left for Muschamp when Meyer departed before the 2011 season.

"C'mon man. I don't know where that came from," Meyer told CBS Sports. "It's like a new generation of excuse. [Herman] said, 'I can't rub pixie dust on this thing.' He got a dose of reality. Maryland just scored 51 points on you."

I'm not sure if Meyer actually listened to the whole Press Conference. In no way was Herman blaming what he inherited. His comment was meant for the fans and anyone thinking that it was going to be a quick fix.

Not giving up 51 points to Maryland should be a quick fix for any coach that is actually worth what we are paying Herman. I think it's pretty easy to tell by Herman's attitude in the PC that this was not what he expected. Meyer is right he got a dose of reality.

All about recruiting....

Least we forget about the rise and fall of Urbans Gators, he also inherited a stacked roster that had won 6 or 7 B1G titles...Jim wasn't run off for poor performance.

...and I'm a fan of Urban Meyer

I don't think Herman actually was the one thinking we were world beaters already. The press, fans and possibly other coaches but I never heard Herman say we're back everyone. Yeah he pumped up his players and that's probably because he believes they have talent on the team. Should we have beaten Maryland with just the talent we have probably. I just think the fans are the one's thinking this was a quick fix that's exactly why you see the prediction thread filled with blow out scores. Same reason last year we thought Kansas would be a cake walk.

I'm a huge fan of Meyer. But there's nothing to see here. There's no way Meyer watched the presser, and he was caught off guard by the comments- which were taken out of context, and a stupid question by the reporter.

Well there is all sorts of shades of gray in between world beaters and dog shit. Every team is not one or the other. UT doesn't have to be a world beater to be much improved. Which Herman has claimed they were.

Uh, no. the team that Meyer inherited just went 6-7 the year before - OSU's 2nd losing season since the early 60s. He promptly took his first team - with the same players that went 6-7 the previous year and a crappy freshman class - to a 12-0 record but couldn't play for a NC or even claim the BIG championship because of inherited sanctions from Tressel. He didn't whine about it. Get your "FACTS" straight.

Get your comprehension straight...............The Buckeyes were not in a bad way and Tressel would still be there if, well...you know the story. Started the season with Bauserman as the starting QB who finished the season third on the depth chart and Braxton (a first year player) got banged up. Tough To win without a QB. Not to mention that 6-7 team wasn't getting blown out. They still knew what it was like to win and win big...

Herman isn't whining about PLAYERS, nancy.

Again, I'm a fan of Meyer.

He whined about the shape of the Florida program and it's players when he inherited it, feel better?

Herman has a presser at 6:30, I doubt he leaves this alone.

When you take over a losing program and win the roster was stacked. When you take over a program and lose the cupboard was bare.

I would hope the coaching improves then because Maryland only hung 50+ points on two teams last year Purdue (50) and Howard (52).

We've got plenty of talent. Fans say that shit all too often.
We've got a lot of talent most of it freshman, sophomore some Jr. We haven't had much impact from the sr classes the last few years. Hard to win consistently that way. This isn't the end all be all but you can get a pretty good picture of the teams that were good in college football by looking at the first 4-5 rounds of the NFL draft. You gotta have NFL type upper classman to compete at a top level. We just haven't had that for the last few seasons.

Lol, no doubt. It was the same song...second verse to the tune they hummed in 2016. Missed tackles, poor gap integrity, fundamental breakdown and blunders all over the field from D to O to ST that we saw last season.

They didn't give us the false hope of last years opener.

Heck, I was surprised Texas had three non offensive TD's

It's simply not bare, he's used up a mulligan.
It's not bare. But it's not good enough to be a 10-12 win program either which is ultimately where Texas strives to be and should be, and that talent gap isn't new. It's been an issue for the last 6-7 years. Look I have questions about Herman as the long term answer, but damn thus program has struggled to make bowl games the last 5 years. I'm not shocked that there hasn't been an overnight turn around. The comment about urban inheriting a better situation is a valid one.

They were 12-1 Tressel last year.

32-5 over his last 3 years

94-22 overall.

It would be like Mack retiring after the VY national title game and the new guy taking over from there. Jobs like the one urban fell in to don't come open every day.

Herman's "sprinkle fairy dust" comment made it throughout all of the sports shows and news. Do you really think he should need fairy dust AGAINST MARYLAND ? One more time - not Oklahoma, this was Maryland

Agreed, but the "Fairy Dust" had everything to do with work on the field, not who is doing the work. He has praised the amount of talent he has to work with... They shit the bed Saturday afternoon. Lot's of folks took it out of context, but hey...it happens.

They got out coached and out hustled by a smaller team. Props to Durkin in year two.

I didn't think it would be close.

I believe that was when Tressel left and an interim coach was at the helm.

Urban didn't appreciate what he thought was Charlie getting thrown under the bus by TH the last few months. Many comments have been made.

Didn't Urban leave Florida "to spend more time with family"? Urban has no Texas commits for 2018. This might be the reason for the gum flapping. Lock the big out of Texas.

Actually he left for "health" reasons but man he got healthy pretty quick. Exactly one year. Coincidence I'm sure. He's a great coach but a bit shady imo

I have heard him say things along the lines of we have to get our players to do things the way we want them to do things, and we have to get them to go hard all the time but I haven't heard anything that I would take as a swipe at CS or the previous regime. If anything I have heard how talented a lot of these kids are, to me that is a compliment to them. Maybe I just don't want to make a story out of something that is not there.

I think @2300Nueces was right, he is trying to put some doubt in the heads of recruits that possibly Herman & Co. aren't who they say they are. I honestly believe that anytime a coach says a negative thing about a school or has a comment about another coach is goes directly back to recruiting.

Urban and company are fixing to be able to have all the Texas recruits they want if our coaches don't stop shitting the bed

This I agree with. It's all about winning and that will always be the cure to winning the recruiting battle. Although Tom can't sprinkle pixie dust and fix things in one game he does need to win to keep recruits interested.

Still waiting for your reply and examples retard..... you cant still be bitter that we beat you 2 of the last 3 can you? ohio state fans are about the worst ppl I have ever gotten to meet.... not just fans, but ppl in general... idiots like you that wanna play troll - and do so poorly - are one of the MANY reasons your fan base is trash.... but doubt you got the balls to come back and actually explain your garbage statement... so good riddance, heres to OU smashing you in the shoe.... I detest ou but im gonna be full blast Boomer Sooner while they skullfvck your team Saturday. ;) Cheers cupcake!

The thing that stood out to me was the 4th and 2 and we passed out of it. We should have ran it with Warren. That was a bad call but no one called Herman out on that. We should have used Warren way more but we didn't. Bad play calling but he gets a pass too? Maryland was ready and our coaches (offensive and defensive) wasn't. Just expecting them say,"This is Texas, we are going to lose". Teams don't fear us.
Play Warren. Mix up the offense(run and pass ratio). Go to a 4 lineman. CBs play bump and Safety play high low and we will be ok. Play like we did against Maryland, going against the Big12 and it will be a long season.
I like seeing us having a 1000 yard rusher.

He said we would've liked to run more but being down we had throw. No one is giving the team a pass at all. Bad team play all around which includes the coach.

After OU kicked their ass, I'm guessing their fans are questioning why he wasn't prepared and got outcoached in the second half. Too worried about mouthing off on Herman's comments
