USA vs Canada gold medal game tonight(ice hockey)

Yep. Also the USA kids are 4-1 vs Canada all time in the gold medal games. Lost in '97 but won in '04, '10, '17, and now '21. Been talking all kinds of shit to my Canadian teammates. I'm owed 7 cases of beer from them.

Contrary to popular belief on OB, hockey is becoming much more popular and our youth systems have improved dramatically in the past 25 years. The Stars move from Minnesota to Dallas in '93 was absolutely huge for hockey. The Dallas youth system is phenomenal. Side note, our 10U(9 and 10 year olds) AA travel kids in Austin are in first place in the Dallas league. Austin doesn't have enough players for a full league so our kids play in the Dallas leagues.

It'll never be as popular as football down here simply because it's by far the most expensive youth sport to play and football is king in the south but it's been gaining traction over the years. I'm excited for the future of hockey in the US!

The ADM changed the game.

Yep. It's fantastic. I'll be working on my level 4 coach cert in the near future.

I also may be banned for punching a parent of my grandson's 6U team who thinks 5 and 6 year olds need be benched for not passing.

Parents just plain suck shit through a straw when it comes to youth sports. We've had multiple parents get banned from 8U games. It's insane that people lose their minds over 7 and 8 year old kids playing sports.

Funny timing, I'm taking my daughter ice skating at the rink in San Antonio this Saturday. She's been once before on a shitty outdoor rink so she should have a blast.

Did I read right, Canada outshot us 15-1 in the third period? That is insane. I have a few friends in CT who claim some of this teams stars are local there.

Great story.

Yes, the stud USA goalie was born in CT. Several others probably from NE area.

With USA being up 2-0 heading to 3rd, shots not that surprising.

Hockey is a blast to watch. Give it a shot if you are open to new sports. My 10 year old plays travel hockey and his games are way more fun to watch than any of the other sports he’s played.
During the playoffs last year, NBC used a slightly elevated camera angle some and I loved it so much more than the standard angle. From the elevated angle a person watching on TV can see a lot more of the movement happening. I wish that camera angle was used at least half the time.

What’s your thoughts on the Houston youth system? Is it the Wild that is the travel team

Yes. A team my son played for played the Wild at the winter classic last year. I think the Wild finished 2nd. I don't know about Houston, but the Dallas area has many youth hockey organizations and is building a pretty robust youth hockey culture. The Stars have done a great job promoting hockey in Dallas and building learn to play programs at very low cost. I think for $125 kids not only get instruction, but get fully outfitted with gear. A. cheap pair of new skates can cost more than $125.
