Former USC, LSU players accused in string of robberies
Wednesday, it was reported that former USC tight end Bryce Dixon was arrested in connection to a carjacking in Los Angeles earlier in the week. As it turns out, that’s not Dixon’s only issue with the law — nor is he the only former FBS player involved, either.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Dixon and former LSU football player Trey Lealaimatafao are both suspected of committing at least seven robberies in the Los Angeles area this week. The Times writes that “Los Angeles police detectives say that on Monday and Tuesday, the pair committed two or three robberies in Ventura County, and four or five robberies in Los Angeles, including the carjacking.”
The two were arrested on the carjacking allegation and are both being held in jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
The paper explained how Bonnie and Clod’s arrests unfolded:
After one of those Rampart area robberies Tuesday, detectives were able to get a description of a getaway car, police said. Acting on a crime alert that contained a vehicle and suspect description, Southwest Division officers stopped Dixon and Lealaimatafao in a car on Van Ness Avenue about 1 p.m.
Dixon, investigators said, had borrowed the car from a friend at USC. Police say they found evidence inside the vehicle tying the men to the robberies.
Both the LAPD and Ventura County Sheriff’s Department are conducting investigations into the string of robberies. Neither former football player have been formally charged for any of that alleged activity. Neither, either, are strangers to trouble.
Dixon was sidelined twice as a Trojan for “student-conduct issues,” then expelled from the school in May. It’d been reported that at least one of the issues involved an unspecified incident with another USC student; Dixon’s attorney confirmed subsequently confirmed in August that his client had been expelled from USC because of “Title IX sexual misconduct.”
In July of 2014, Lealaimatafao was arrested in connection to the theft of a bicycle. Nearly a year later, the defensive lineman was arrested and charged with battery and robbery following an incident outside of a bar. It was alleged Lealaimatafao beat one man unconscious then punched the victim’s girlfriend with a closed fist. For good measure, Lealaimatafao picked the victims’ pockets before fleeing the scene.
Shortly before the bicycle theft, Lealaimatafao punched his fist through a weight-room window at LSU, leading to some initial speculation that he would have to have at least a portion of his arm amputated. Lealaimatafao ended up fully recovering, but was dismissed by Les Miles following the bar incident.
As for the connection between Dixon and Lealaimatafao? The two were teammates in the 2014 Army All-American Bowl, Dixon a four-star tight end from California and Lealaimatafao a three star tackle from Texas.
