UT fined $25K for handling of court-storming following win over Kansas

1) There is never a reason to rush the field or the court. Too much potential danger.

2) I don’t care that it’s Kansas basketball, we shouldn’t rush the court either. We’re Texas. We have a legitimate coach now. Act like it’s expected and cheer and celebrate—don’t rush the court.

Someone is going to get seriously injured soon. It should be banned across all sports.
Court storming is stupid.

It’s been many years now - but a student at I believe Arizona State was paralyzed. That’s when some of the bans/fines originated.

I think this is pretty standard stuff by the Big 12 and most conferences. Well worth it.

That said, I heard one of the KU players had someone bump into his knee during the court rush and apparently he is questionable for their game this weekend, so that's unfortunate.

Good lord. People get hurt all the time. Storming the court in awesome and people are soft.
It’s not awesome. It’s for schools whom sucK. If you are Chaminade beating Ralph Sampson, fine. Texas should never do that. JFC we were a Final Four pick to start the year and the game was a PK. And we’ve beaten them 3 times in a row.

The Big 12 is being hypocritical this time. The last B12 team that won their basketball game against Texas stormed the court and no fine. And people wonders why Bowlsby is seen as a push-over by most in the NCAA.

If the legislature doesn't pass some law requiring it, I say I would quietly let it be known that Texas will not schedule any Big12 teams after we leave for the SEC. If the Big12 wants to play hard ball, they should know that there will be consequences for those actions.

I mean, Kansas was still on the floor. This is an auto fine every time.

I doubt Beard GAF, as 25k is nothing compared to an excited student body.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns have been fined $25,000 for their handling of the court storming following Monday's men's basketball game, the Big 12 Conference announced on Wednesday.
UT upset the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks, 79-76, on Monday. Timmy Allen hit the go-ahead jumper, then Marcus Carr delivered the game-sealing steal and free throws.

A few seconds later, Texas fans stormed the court.

“Our host institutions have a duty to ensure an environment that provides the visiting team and game officials a safe exit from the court,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “In this instance, execution of the University’s court storming plan did not adequately provide the protections necessary to safe-guard visiting team personnel.”

Kansas coach Bill Self didn’t seem bothered by it. He was asked after the game if his team had any trouble leaving the court as fans rushed in.
“No, it’s fine,” Self said.
The Longhorns will face No. 10 Baylor on the road on Saturday, Feb. 12.

jealous bastards. that put $$ in their coffer.

All I know is that if we beat Bama next year I’m rushing the field. Now it may take me two hours to get there from my seats in sect 105, row 50 but we’re going streakin’!

Beard was waving the students down to the court

Pretty weak sauce move that people stormed the court.

I love how baseball doesn’t dog pile unless they win it all in Omaha.
It was mainly students. They've been joining the team pretty much all season on the court after the game. This time there were a lot more of them

I love how Beard has energized the students

The Arkansas fine was $250k because the penalty escalates each time your school has an infraction. The Big 12 has this escalator as well. This is an everywhere thing, not a Big 12 thing.

Sounds like the Big 12 Commissioner taking some revenge shots at Texas for leaving the conference. I doubt it will be the last time something like this is done. The longer we hang around this conference the more we will be punished.

Whoa. Were the opposing players in danger? That seems like a large fine.

I guess it’s generally just the fun police on patrol.
The Arkansas court rushing looked a little rehearsed. In general I am against charging the court but I am loving it this year. Our society has been “locked down” by this whole virus thing. It brings me great joy to see full arenas and fans celebrating.

I think we need a name for storming the court in Austin...Stampeding

CDC will pay $25K for every time UT storms the court after upsetting a top-10 team, even if it is $250 a season. It sells tickets, generates excitement, opens BMD's wallets and creates a homecourt advantage that is sorely needed, but seemingly coming together. That's the type of PR you cannot buy or manufacture.

When they get into the new arena and have students closer to the court, I hope to see a Longhorn Stampede a lot until victories like that over top-ranked, blue-blood programs become the rule, not the exception.

I hope to see two more Stampedes this year: 2/19 vs Tech on payback Saturday and 2/28, a Monday night beat-down of the Baptists of the Brazos.

Storming courts and fields is awesome. Rules against it are stupid. People get hurt all the time, it's part of life. You can't legislate away accidents and this is an example where the sliding scale has gone too far in one direction. Let people have some fun.
