Hello,

My name is Luis Veras Landron and I'm currently a freshman at the McCombs School of Business here at The University of Texas. Last fall I attempted to walk-on to the football team, and after months of training I have decided to try out in the spring again. Throughout the months leading up to spring tryouts I created a video showcasing what I'm capable of.

Please find the YouTube link to the video attached below:

Any positive feedback or constructive criticism is all I'm asking for! Thank you and Hook 'Em!

I applaud any young man that puts in the effort, hours of work and attention to details it takes to make it. Anything worth anything is never easy. Hook' Em, Luis.

Thank you, I truly appreciate that! It means a lot to hear that from a longhorn fan.

Does Coach Strong know ya coming?

The majority of the kicks are looking good! The long range kicks appear to leave your foot a little low and look blockable. Everything else looks really good. We need a consistent kicker. I hope you make it and I believe you will.

Good luck to you kid. Looks like you got a nice leg, and if you watched ANY games last season then you know how much we need a good kicker lol. Best of luck to you sir - Go get you a roster spot and elevate our kicking game.

Thank you man, I truly appreciate it! I will definitely give it my all to make that roster and get the special teams back to where it needs to be.

I walked on the team in 1997 for a few months and I remember the competition. I also remember that if you are dedicated, you can make the team. You have what it takes to make it and win us some games.

Haha no, unfortunately he doesn't know I'm coming. I have no way of contacting any of the coaches aside from those evaluating walk-on players.
Walk into his office and knock on the door and talk to him or make a appt to see him, better to biz in person than Youtube! Tell him you can out kick any kicker we got and a big PLUS is if you can catch the ball on 4th down...while you are waiting someone else is ,making this move ahead of you, be like "Rudy" knock on the fing door and say : Coach Strong, my name is Ladron and I can kick the shit outa a FG! and punt a country mile", BUT!, you had be able to do what ya say, that's the trick...

Haha I know you meant aspects of this to be funny and a joke but that's honestly something I've considered doing it. I just don't if now is the time to do that with his mind probably on attaining commitments from important recruits.

Haha it is something I have contemplated doing, it's just finding the right time to do it. I'm sure he's busy trying to gain commitments from actual players.

Tis a diff in kicking in front of 80,000 plus with 6 big dudes wanted to come get yo ass then a empty practice field
Or ya can go play for Coach Snyder at KState, he takes people like you and puts them in the NFL, Texas is not for everyone..

That's definitely true and overcoming that fear is going to be a big challenge for me as I am much smaller than a traditional kicker (height wise at least). I don't see myself going to any other school, I came to Texas because of the academics and a major reason I decided to even learn how to kick a football was to be coached by Strong. I'm a longhorn at heart and leaving just isn't an option. I have taken your advice and set up an appointment with coaches this week so I will let you know how those end up going.

I usually never post in any of these forums, but your story made me think of my own son who wants to play for UT on day. Keep believing in yourself Veras. We need more guys on the team like you who bleed burnt orange. I wish you all the success in your efforts to make the team and get a degree. Good Luck.

Truly appreciate it and keep telling your son to never give up. If I'm able to do it then I know your son can as well!

The day after national signing day. Walk in, congratulate him on a great class, and tell him he's only missing a great kicker. Best of luck to you.
