Reporters and Longhorn fans had a lot of positive things to say about the Texas's football team after two practices. Well, people in the building are excited about this squad, too.
After working the phones on Sunday night, there are lot of building in the building very excited about the size of players on this year's team. They are all crediting coach Charlie Strong for putting an emphasis of acquiring big and athletic guys. If I had to use one word to describe the feeling, "giddy" is probably the most accurate characterization.
The people I spoke to believe they finally have a team full of talented players. There is a cautious optimism right now, but my sources believe the Longhorns have a group of players that can wear down opposing teams this year.
Of course, this is a young team, so there is some concern about their ability to stay mentally focused during a 12-game season. The belief is if this team remains mentally strong, Texas can have a breakthrough year.
By the way, there is no new news to report concerning Manor linebacker Erick Fowler. Everyone is still waiting for Fowler to pass his final exam, which is scheduled to occur on Wednesday (it could happen earlier if the school allows him to take the test on Monday or Tuesday). I asked one source about the NCAA Clearinghouse and was told they expect Fowler to go through a quick process because that office is not as busy in August. They believe requests are longer to process around signing day, but are hoping for a quick approval in August. Everyone is optimistic Fowler will join the team this week.
