A source told Orangebloods on Wednesday that Texas freshman QB Shane Buechele sustained a rib injury (the words used were 'cracked rib') versus Cal. A team source has confirmed the report as true, adding "it doesn't seem like anything too serious, and with the bye week he should be able to go against (Oklahoma State)."
Buechele left the Cal game for medical evaluation of what was later reported as a chest injury. He returned to play 46 more offensive snaps in the Texas loss. Buechele was also made available to the media in Monday's post-Cal press conference which indicates the staff probably feels good about his availability for the coming week. While we don't know the exact nature of Buechele's case, we do know that many times rib injuries of all types can be played with. It's oftentimes more of a matter of pain management than anything.
Texas fans should expect, at the very least, to see Buechele in at least some sort of flak-jacket or similar protection if he is indeed in action versus OSU, as is expected by at least one team source.
Clearly, the bye week comes at a very convenient time in regard to this matter.
