Louisiana Tech, Texas' nemesis during the 1980s, comes to Austin for the first time since 2017. From 1979 to 1993, Louisiana Tech won all 8 games against the Longhorns, the most painful for Texas? The 79-75 Final 4 loss that kept the Longhorns from playing for the National Championship on their home court in 1987. Tennessee eliminated LaTech for the championship - Texas and Tennessee split 2 games that season: Tenn 78-85, Texas 88-74.
LaTech alum Brooke Stoehr and her husband Scott are the "co-head" coaches for the Lady Techsters and have never really challenged the Longhorns as a duo. In 4 meetings against Texas (3 as head coaches of Northeastern), the scores were: 60-90, 34-74, 33-86 and 54-88. LaTech is a smallish team with only 1 player taller than 6' 1" (6' 3" Ilana Roberson) and tends to shoot it from outside. Despite hitting on just 6/23 attempts from beyond the arc, they were able to dominate McNeese St 90-45 in their first game of the season. They were more measured and accurate in the 2nd game, knocking down 5 of 13 (38.5%) long distance attempts against Grambling, a 79-69 win. Over 2 games, they have 3 players averaging 10+ points per contest: G Keiunna Walker (16.5), F Brianna Harris (12.5), G Raizel Guinto (12). The Lady Techsters also rotate quite a few players with 10 averaging more than 15 minutes per game.
