Wednesday 6:15 p.m. update - McGinnis said the recruiting coordinator and d-line coach (Giles) just had a long conversation with his coach. He said Texas wants to get him down to Austin for a visit and they're calling his head coach now.
I was supposed to catch up with McGinnis tonight but he has some personal issues he's dealing with so we're going to talk at a time that's better for him.
******
Wednesday 3:50 update - Hearing Oscar Giles has indeed reached out to Tyreece Lott. OU, Ok State and K-State have all offered this week.
******
Wednesday 3:30 update - Couple interesting updates ...
Couple interesting updates ... Mike McGinnis tells me he's been in touch with Oscar Giles.
"We're seeing if they could get me to come visit tomorrow," McGinnis said.
I'm supposed to talk to McGinnis tonight.
Kenneth Orji tells me Corby Meekins came by to visit him last week and Derek Warehime came by today.
"They're short on LBs so he said after the staff gets a chance to settle in from moving from U of H they will watch my film together and make there finale evaluations. Coach Warehime and coach Meekins already watched it and really liked it.
Orji said he and Warehime have discussed the possibility of a visit but nothing has been set up yet.

Wednesday 10 a.m. update - Sounds like new UT offer Camron Horry is solid to A&M.
I had texted Horry to ask if had any interest in the UT offer, or if he is locked in for A&M.
He responded with an emoji of a padlock.
Short and to the point. I like it.

Tuesday 9:34 p.m. update - A source close to RB Toneil Carter confirms that Carter will not visit Texas this weekend in what he described as a "last minute" decision. Gerry Hamilton was first to report that the visit was off.
Tuesday 9:25 p.m. update - Texas has offered John Tyler ATH Bryson Smith, a Houston commit. Of note, I'm told from a key source that the offer is as a slot WR and not as a QB.
Tuesday 9:20 p.m. update - New tight end offer Sal Cannella tells me he will "definitely" take a visit to Texas this weekend, he's just trying to figure out the best plan. He also plans to visit Auburn so he's trying to work it out so he can hit both places this weekend.
Tuesday 9:15 p.m. update - Just caught up with Weatherford DT Zacchaeus McKinney. A couple notes ...
Oscar Giles actually did an in-home last week. Derek Warehime went by the school today.
McKinney said he's been talking to Giles for over a year and Houston was recruiting him very hard.
He'll take an official visit to Texas the weekend of January 20. If/when Texas offers? "I'll commit on the spot," McKinney said.

Tuesday 8:05 p.m. update - QB commit Sam Ehlinger will sign his financial aid paperwork on Thursday at 11:30. Too early in the day for some of you to pop the champagne? Nah.
Also, Ehlinger just confirmed that he will take his UT official visit this weekend.
******
Tuesday 6:35 p.m. update - UT assistant Jason Washington stopped by to see Josh Thompson today.
******
Tuesday 5:55 p.m. - Hearing Tom Herman was at DeSoto today. Not completely sure just yet who he was checking on, but that's obviously a loaded program. I'll pass along more details on this one as I get them.
******
Tuesday 1:50 p.m. update - Texas has offered Juco WR/TE Salvatore Cannella. Cannella is at Scottsdale Community College.
Video on Cannella. Has four years to play three. Has already taken an official visit to Maryland. Cannella tells me he's very interested in the UT offer and is trying to decide where he's going this weekend between Texas and Auburn.
******
Tuesday 1:30 pm. update - FYI, a little more on Rambo He tells me he's "not sure yet" if he'll visit Texas. If he does, he says it will not be an official visit.
******
Tuesday 12:30 pm update - Just got a text from Cedar Hill WR Charleston Rambo. Tom Herman and Oscar Giles went by his school today and will do an in home tonight.
******
10 p.m. update - Oscar Giles continues to hit the recruiting trail hard. Visited Baton Rouge Madison Prep DE Bryan Jones today. Jones holds a UT offer.
******
9:40 p.m. update - I just heard back from La Grange RB and Ohio State commitment J.K. Dobbins. Nothing earth-shattering, but Herman did go by the school today.
More interesting ... I had heard last week that Dobbins was strongly considering taking a UT official visit before the dead period but then got cold feet. Not sure yet if today's visit caused things to heat back up but I'm guessing it sure didn't hurt UT's chances.
Also, ICYMI, Toneil Carter planning to visit Texas this weekend.
Huge official visit set for this weekend
******
Monday 6:15 p.m. update - Here's an update on Rivals250 DE Ryan Johnson, who says he may take a midweek visit to UT in January. Talked to Tom Herman and Oscar Giles last night.
Video: Ryan Johnson talks favorites, including UT
******
Monday 3:40 p.m. update - Texas has offered Texas A&M tight end/OL commitment Camron Horry. Horry, the son of Robert Horry, has been committed to A&M since June.
******
Monday noon update - Texas DB commitment Josh Thompson has a message you all will like.
******
Monday 11:20 a.m. update - Talked to someone who was at the commitment ceremony of linebacker Anthony Hines. In case you missed it, Hines committed to A&M on Friday.
I was told that Hines may still do some in-home visits this week, including one from Tom Herman. Florida and Penn State may also try to come by.
Obviously, if you're Texas, you go in there and give it a shot, but the person I spoke with didn't think there's much of a chance Hines changes his mind. He has already signed his financial papers (which are non-binding) and he's already actively recruiting for Texas A&M.

Texas defensive end commitment LaGaryonn Carson is one of the top pound-for-pound players in the state of Texas - and arguably the entire nation - but he's flown under the radar for the past six months.
It's certainly not Carson's talent that is causing the spotlight to focus elsewhere. But with the standout prospect sitting out most of his senior year after transferring from Texarkana Liberty-Eylau to Premier High School of Texarkana, where his attention has shifted away from football and is now focused on academics, other players in the state have dominated the headlines.
Carson has an important message for Texas fans - don't give up on him, he says, and he's still planning on doing big things at UT starting next year. The 6-5, 255-pound Carson has been in touch with the new Texas coaching staff.
"They've been texting me a little bit more. It's been the offensive line coach and the head coach. They've been hitting me up," Carson said.
Texas hasn't stopped by yet to see Carson either in an in-home or at his school, but Carson said he believes members of the UT staff will be making their way to Texarkana soon. Whenever they make it by, Carson said he feels really good about his Texas commitment.
"I still feel everything is good so far. Nothing's changing," Carter said.
Carson ranks No. 147 nationally and checks in as the nation's No. 6-ranked strongside defensive end. Other schools do continue to pursue him, but Carson said he's planning on sticking with his Texas pledge.
"Other teams are still talking to me, but I'm not even thinking about going to anywhere else," Carson said. "Baylor and A&M, mostly. They hit me with DMs. I just look at it. I don't even respond to it anymore. Baylor and probably Arkansas are hitting me up the hardest."
Carson understands and expects that other teams will continue to recruit him - it's part of the business of being a top recruit. But he said he feels comfortable with his decision to attend Texas and he feels UT provides him a great opportunity for his long-term future.
"Texas feels like the place to be for me. I think it's a good fit for me, no matter what schools there are out there," Carson said. "I feel like I'll have a good chance to do what I want to do there - go to the NFL hopefully."

Haven't heard a lot of details on Chuck Filiaga's unofficial visit to Texas over the weekend. I've got a couple feelers out to people close to Filiaga but have not heard back yet.
A key Texas source tells me "it went well" when I asked if it was a productive visit with the Rivals250 member.
******
Expect the Texas staff to be back burning up the road again this week. Head coach Tom Herman will be part of those efforts yet again. I'm hearing Herman will be in Houston to check on the top prospects in the area, including five-star offensive tackle Walker Little, but we'll try to get a better handle on coaching stops as the week goes on.
Texas did an incredible job of covering ground last week with just four assistants on the road (in addition to Herman in select situations late in the week) and I'm expecting a similar effort this week.
