A California miracle

The price of gas out here in Placer County is now $1.99 a gallon. Inland Ca is not as expensive as the people who live on the coast. But that's their problem :( What is the price of gas in TX now? If it's $1.99 out here it's gotta be something like $1.85

I agree with my Wife on this "oil slump." We don't enjoy it. Gas cost .25 when I was a kid. Poor Farm kids ( what I was ) could pool their quarters and fill the '56 Ford and ride around all weekend. A pack of Pall Malls and a loaf of bread also cost .25.

It is hard for me to enjoy $1.70 gas when I see the destruction to my fellow Americans' lives.

Personally, I would shut the valve on the (****rd by me ) muslims and drill here in a closed market. If Vlad Putin wants the muslims, give them to him. He knows how to handle them and has no CHRISTianity holding him back from doing so. Later, when he screams for help, I'd say " POTUS George W. Bush43 once said he had 'looked into your (Putin's) eyes and saw a good man.' When I look at you, all I see is a Lt Colonel of KGB."

I'd also recall (or abandon - their choice) any company that has moved off shore and won't rehire Americans here at home. I would resend a large portion of the taxation that drove them away as a reward for coming home.

Everybody doesn't want to be a Preacher, a Dr. of Philosophy at Alligator Aggies U, an IT Tech or a useless bought off politician.

They shouldn't have bought all that stuff on credit! They shoulda known by the past Oil Field habits, it would not last..

Doesn't matter if bought a lot of stuff or not. Many of them have no jobs now, or had to take a huge step down in pay to a crappy job. Cheap gas is not good for our economy.

I've been in the oil and gas business for 20 years and am still working by the grace of God. A lot of my colleagues are out of work. I don't need $100 oil but $50 oil would be nice about right now.

I have zero sympathy for anyone in the oil and gas industry. Been gouging consumers for decades just because they could. No better than Phillip Morris in my book. And screw Saudi and OPEC too. Hope they fade away into oblivion.

Airline will not lower their costs until they are threatened with a price war. That used to be possible but it isn't any longer. Price fixing runs rampant in that industry and if you think it doesn't, you're foolish. The price of trucking has remained virtually static (I have a clue friend that runs several ACME trucking out posts as well as a friend that runs R&L carriers). Once the public become used to to paying a certain price for services, it takes something catastrophic to ever get them to come off those prices.
With regard to gasoline, care to guess who profits most from the sale of a gallon of gas? It isn't the oil company or the vendor. (Hint: in rhymes with "shmuthershment"). If oil were to settle around 52-53$ a barrel, fuel prices would still be low and petroleum companies could hire back 75% of their lay offs and the economy would stabilize here in Texas. The only way this is possible though is for 1. Saudi to get pi$$ed and bomb Iran or 2. A new POTUS says we will become energy independent.

Actually I'm a fan of both. The kingdom of Saud is not our friend. The like our wallet, not our beliefs. Iran is not our friend, regardless of what your news channel may tell you. Right now Putin wants control of ALL the pipelines in Eurasia and the middle east. Go for it bro. By the time we burn through all our shale oil and natural gas (250-300 years from now) everything will be fueled by cold fusion and petrol will be a thing of the past.

I've been trolling these boards for a few years now. Love reading everyone's opinions etc.....but I rarely post. However, the absolute stupidity of this post forced me to go back and find my user name and password. Not only do you type the way you speak, but then you post this kind of stuff? Rediculous. Not one hard working person in the oil industry deserves to be laid off or have their families suffer. Ignorance at its finest.

I don't know how some of you think that it serves "big oil" right. The main point is that all of this unstable pricing is a temporary power play by foreign to squeeze out competition. This is akin to monopolistic practices where a company lowers the price so much to force another business "out of business" only to raise the price back up when they accomplished the mission. Yes, big oil guys are still wealthy as ever. But, the worker's it supports aren't rich. Those workers also rent apartments from real estate investors, they buy groceries from local grocery stores, they buy vehicles from area car dealers, they get their vehicles serviced from local mechanics, their kids go to our schools and on and on. So, it does affect us. Is it better the the dollars are going to foreign oil? I like what Belldozer said, "$100 dolllar/barrel oil is too much-I'll take $50. I will say that if $20/barrel oil was a result of the free economy as opposed to temporary maneuvering by foreign oil, then I would be okay with it. Clearly, we are being played with and it isn't free economic forces at play.

I worked OffShore for 10 yrs way back when, I don't like to see people get to lose their jobs, but, you come down to South Texas and see all the new PU's and new homes and boats and other shit and could not pay for them, and lost them all because they over extended themselves, some on purpose and some not working in the Oil Patch is a gamble and they lost, they shoulda looked back at job stability instead of money and all that they could buy...so, now they are on the Welfare row and there is not enough jobs to go around so ya should not have found ya password, the Truth is what it is they shoulda had a plan B and they didn't

A little compassion goes a long way. You are an old guy, keep this in mind. Our Social Security is about to take a major blow, which means you are going to take a 30% pay cut in your benefits. To go with that is the cost of Medicare is going to go way up while your benefits go way down. Shit is going to get very real for a lot of Americans not just those guys in the oil fields.

The only thing that can save this country is a balanced budge amendment and cutting government spending by almost 40% You think that is going to happen any time soon?

You want competition for the airline we need to put in high speed rail in this country. My brother is in the navy stationed in Japan. It's like a 14 hour car ride from where he is to Tokyo it's a 3 hour ride on the bullett train. You had something like that in the US not only would it create several thousand infrastructure jobs but also provide consumers with another travel option besides air. Probably never happen because of what it would take to get done. But it would be good overall for the country.

Ya because the airline lobbyists are going to allow that.......

Talk of putting a high speed rail between Houston and Dallas, but it was shut down by lobbyist from Southwest Air who spread a lot of money to keep that suppressed.

I may take a cut, but, I will survive OK, I have saved and paid everything off and I have my Mason jars buried with my money in it, but , like ya said it will surely hurt some people lives and things will be different, I probably won't live to see it, but, one day there is gonna be a revolution between the rich and the poor, the Government will collapse the way things are going, the US cannot keep taking people as its running outa room..Its really beginning to sound like the book of Revelations if ya are religious, the Gov can spend a million or 2 for a fighter....etc but, its hurtin bad in other parts of the Gov, talking about SS, the Gov borrowed from yrs ago for other Depts and never pay it back like they said they would, and now look at it, so who's the blame? The guys you voted for!

In 70 something yrs , I learned 4 things

1. Never to Invest

2. Never marry the same women twice

3. Never lend money to friends or relatives

4. Things aren't what they seem sometimes

If you have invested, one morning ya gonna wake-up and you have nothing the way the world is going down...economy -wise and Banks not gonna have money to pay what you had in the bank when it failed, best to keep ya money close! or get ya some Mason jars like this old man did....LOL!

W saw "the soul of a man", not "a good man" --not that it made a difference

I'd say W was hallucinating. Of course, it does occur to me ( to be fair ) that I am, very negatively, accusing Putin of being an ex- KGB Spook. Then it occurs to me that "Poppie" ( POTUSGHWB41) is also an ex-CIA Spook.

Now don't take me wrong as a Republican basher. I am a Conservative...I just call 'em like I see 'em.

I think "Poppie" and "W" did a good job for us, MOSTLY. But I have a falling out with them, ( and Little Brother Jeb) at the Southern Border of Texas and the US. Of course, I have a falling out there with MOST democrats as well... as the last American President who actually defended the Southern Border was "Ike." Look up a very un-PC named operation he ordered during his Presidency. Ike had much the same situation, economically, as we have today- a flailing and almost failing economy on the cusp of a BIG change, a glut of illegal aliens occupying most of the entry level unskilled ( or fallback ) jobs, depressing wages, and soaking up Emergency Room Medical care. He rounded them up and deported a large portion of them DEEP into Mexico on trains. When the rest saw that they would not be just delivered to their front doors up near the border, they self-deported.
