What about Kyle Whittingham?

Should've won the MNC in 2008. Took over an undefeated left by Urban Meyer.

He's a guy I would consider for sure. He's a BYU Alum and been at Utah as an asst and HC he may not want to leave. As a California native he may see what happens at USC.

To me if you can't get one of the following

John Harbaugh
Chris Peterson
Kyle whittingham
Gus Malzahn
Brian Harsin

If you can't get one of those 5 I'd just keep Strong another year. Herrman isn't even on my list right now. Just hasn't done enough imo. One great year doesn't make you a good HC and his team has really struggled the last month. I know Harsin just lost but he has 4 years of HC expierence under his belt already had a 12 win season and even with today's loss still probably wins 10+

Didn't Texas nearly drop one @wyoming with Mack and VY? I seem to remember a nail biter up there

Boise state just lost.....and Harsin has done UT..he won't b back

I know that things didn't go well at Texas for Harsin as OC. However I would hope that the Big money donors and decision makers would look at what Harsin is doing as a HC and what Manny Diaz is going as a DC in Miami and go "maybe we had other problems". As far as Harsin he makes 1 mill per season a nice raise of about 400% should cure those.

Anyway there are other guys Id consider before him but you see my point there are a lot of guys who should be ahead of Herrman and he's one of them.

Harsin would come back. His only issues here were Applewhite's ego and Mack's people-pleasing and lack of staff accountability.
Sorry...I have to respectfully disagree. I think he has seen this culture at UT and wants no part if it.

I think he's a great candidate and someone we could realistically get. I think we need to look at coaches with a longer background of coaching 8-10 years or more. I like Herman, but two years experience at end of this year is not much. I'd hate for us to replace one Charlie strong with another.

No that was 2009 with colt. They hung with us for half the game. Then we turned it on.

That's right. I knew they had played us tough up there one of those years

Take a run at the NFL guys, Then go for P5 guys and mid tier programs. Dan Mullen and Larry Fedora are guys I would take a look at. Hugh Freeze is another but I would concerned about possible NCAA violations.

Dan Mullen is about to get fired and other than that one year with Dak hasn't done a lot.

You know rumor was that it came down to Strong or Franklin. 3 years later it looks like Franklin has Penn State pointed in the right direction. Maybe deserves a 2nd look.

Yeah he's a good coach. A victim of Nick Saban and unrealistic expectations at UGA. Problem is he just got to Miami and is an alum. I'm sure he's pretty content there.

I agree. I just wonder if the lure of all that Texas offers would trump that.

Mullen is 58-40 at Mississippi State. Sherrill is their winningest coach and he was 75-75. The town is in rural North East Mississippi and the facilities are horrible. The 5 years where Prescott wasn't a starter he went 5-7, 9-4, 7-6 and 8-5. With Dak he went 7-6, 10-3, and 9-4. They are down this year but he has out performed they typical Mississippi State Coaches.

Who knows when a job like Texas comes open strange things can happen. Remember a Nick Saban wasn't going to be the Alabama coach. Urban Meyer got over his "health issues" pretty quick when Ohio state called. So who knows.

That's why I say don't assume guys will say no. Chris Peterson may say no, Brian Harsin may say no each for their own good reasons. Same with john Harbaugh but put the money and the job in front of them and see what happens.

Franklin is a dick. Ask Vanderbilt. Charlie over James was the right choice.

Our boosters want a guy that they can drink beers with, Kyle isn't that guy. He might be a good coach but I'm not sure he can be the type of coach our boosters really want.

How about Larry Fedora? Texas-born. Spread-savvy offensive mind. Would Chizik return as DC? (Our last HC hire from UNC turned out pretty well....until it didn't)

I wonder if our boosters think that Nick Sabah is a guy they can drink beers with.

How about we find a coach that can win games.

I wouldn't mind Fedora if I couldn't get a top guy. He would be well down the list though. I don't know why I just get the feeling Malzahn is the perfect fit for this job. He's never had a passer like Shane run his offense either so that would be fun. Plus I've read he wants the job and I think he fits the boosters mold to.

This will be a booster hire to. There is basically a booster in the AD office, and they never wanted Charlie. In fact I won't say they were rooting for Texas to lose today I don't think they would of been that upset had a loss happened though.

There is always and I mean always a group of boosters that don't get who they want. Nobody will agree 100%. It is a fcking spectacle that gets escalated at Texas because of the spotlight.

I certainly agree with that, but this has felt like a majority since the beginning. Maybe a slight majority at first that has grown. Hell he wasn't most of our first choice so he probably wasn't most of theirs either. This time they will be fully on board with the hire. It will be interesting to see what happens if Strong were to win out. Perhaps a mutrul parting where Strong has a landing spot.

Save the cash for expanding DKR and better parking by keeping Coach Strong, who's a good recruiter, players love him, and he runs a clean ship. Go get him one of the best DCs out there, college or NFL. Looks like it's working for the school near Snook, TX.

Listen...you want Strong no matter what. We all like Strong as a person. He is NOT a championship coach. Coaches who love their players and players who love their coaches is NOT good enough. If you love him so much play like you want to keep him here.

You also act like if Texas doesn't get a top 5 coach in CF that Texas may as well keep Strong. I don't think Strong is in the top 30 best coaches. I actually think it is much lower based on who he has hired and what he has done with the talent he has. His only saving graces are he is a good man....and can recruit well.

Aren't all head coaches more like a CEOs? Like Saban...now he's a great little general who could recruit a hillary supporter to fall in love w Trump. but he's got a great DC and a decent OC.

UT needs to get a solid DC.

Fools gold and a mid major HC. He was beaten by a better HC, Bohls with less talent and better coaching. Didn't like him as OC. Utes HC is legit.

Patterson tied his purse for hiring the first 2 years at UT!!!

John Harbaugh or bust! People seem to think it's just Strong that is the problem. Gilbert's play calling is the most predictable I've seen. Run, run, throw deep. The middle of the field is open and they continue to throw hitches to the sidelines. The team is loaded with talent but don't have the coaches to take them to a championship. I could give a shit less if "the players love strong". Do you think Bama's players love Saban? He seems like an asshole but look at the players he sends to the NFL. Isn't that the objective for most of these kids?
