When I am watching modern documentaries about historical figures, communists are described as "left" and dictators like Hitler & Musulini as "right" - both believe in central control of most everything. How are Stalin / Castro left and Sadam and Hitler "right"? This makes no sense.
"Left" to me means centralized, socialized government controlling benefits for all and redistribution of wealth to try and create "fair" outcomes for everyone.
Conversely, "Right" to me means free market shapes benefits with everyone taking responsibility for their lot in life.
Dictators seem to all come to power through centralized control during economic difficulty. How are not all dictators made possible by leftist, "government controls everything" ideals? It is like someone decided racism was a characteristic of the "right" despite all evidence to the contrary and thus any Hitler/Sadam type is "right".
