I have a feeling the next 4 years are going to be really rough on excuse makers like yourself. To those in need I would say, get off your ass, go to school, make the best grades you can, apply yourself in life, don't wait for someone to do something for you, take control of your own destiny, don't settle for poverty.

I would add... don't spend more than you earn.

I appreciate the time you took to type all that, but I'm not moved by personal stories of that one time at band camp. I live it. Most of the culture/community wants to be educated...I don't care about the semantics of it all. Cultural capital is beyond money and education is key to building it. Educated parents tend to have educated kids for a reason (much more so than uneducated parents). They've built cultural capital and education is valued. Resources are needed.

That said, I know when to stop. No need in butting our heads against the wall. Enjoy.
The most successful person in my family was my grandfather. After his mother died, his father remarried and the stepmother rejected him and his brother. When he came to America, he had the clothes on his back and a debt to the village. He didn't speak the language and he arrived during the Panic of 1873. Over the next 25 years he learned to speak English and Spanish, ride a horse, shoot a gun, drive a mule team, and play cards. He saved enough money to start a railroad restaurant. This enabled him to bring my grandmother to this country. HE NEVER WENT TO SCHOOL. Tell me more about spending $50,000./year on K-12 education. By the way, when he died he and my grandmother still couldn't become citizens. They had 2 sons flying in the Air Corps.

What is a dollar?
How is it created?
I have stated the truth about the nature of our currency before. Once you understand my questions, it will be clear.

Dollars are LOANED into existence. They are a promise to pay. A debt instrument is what backs each and every dollar.

Dollars are created out of thin air. They are worthless..... well fiat. It's not the white middle class that is your enemy. Find out who creates the debt instruments and receives interest on those contrived debt instruments for doing nothing and you'll find the slave master.

Btw... the white middle class are debt donkeys as well. The weakest in the system are the most put upon by design. Re-establish a real currency, and the blue-collar workers will fare much better. Maybe we all could become central bankers and rob others of their labor while sipping mint juleps on our own pedo island. HINT

It's far from that simple. As a matter of fact, about 20% of Americans live below the poverty line, and our poor population is far greater than other developed countries. Can you tell me how that happened? I would love to hear your explanation, since you want to talk about truth.

People make bad decisions, but poverty can't simply be explained by concentrating on the behavior of those suffering. High concentrations of poverty are no accident...that came from the evils of racism. All poverty is not created equal. To be a poor man is hard, but to start as a poor race that didn't have the luxury of building wealth off the back of others is harder. To be slaves longer than you have been free, is no small feat to overcome. To deal with that, black codes, jim crow, and institutional racism (mountains of evidence to back that up) is hard to overcome. Especially when white people destroyed prosperous neighborhoods like in Tulsa and many others. That happened all over the country. Evil racist people are the reason for disparity in this country, and it started from day one. That's truth. Black people work harder than anyone to get where we are, in a country that has never not been racist. The US government was still experimenting on Black people in the 70's, so you know there has never been equality for us. How many rights did Black people finally receive in the 60's and 70's. And no, the experience of immigrants no matter their color, can't be compared to that of Black people. Completely different circumstances and privileges. If not for welfare and white affirmative action, there would be no white middle class. Yet those same services were denied to Black people for so long. If the lazy title is going to be placed on anyone, it's those that got rich on the backs of Black people. This country wouldn't have an economy without that free labor. This country wouldn't have had the means to win wars without that free labor. This country would be speaking another language without that free labor. Let's talk about how the wealth and the lazy and crooked was attained, with their names on these banks. Slavery and conquest is the reason for wealth in this country, not white ancestors working hard. The disparity in this country isn't due to hard work. It's due to the evils of your ancestors. Hard work is key, but don't make it like those communities lag behind due to being lazy. They were placed in a cycle that is difficult to break and they are more vulnerable to destruction. Should we discuss corporate welfare and who gets the majority of their money from "other people." Welfare recipients (mostly white) get about $16.5 billion a year. Rich white people receive about $125 billion a year. But it goes to rich white people, so no one minds. There goes that status quo. By the way, studies show that most people work while on welfare and after. The majority of recipients don't stay on welfare for more than a year. Let's keep talking about the truth. I like it. I know why the disparities are what they are. It has nothing to do with anyone simply being lazy. It's deeper than that.

Edit: Grit and motivation are key. But situations and circumstances differ for a reason. The situation we live in today is no accident. We're still fighting those demons. Excuse makers are those avoiding this truth. A racist past and present isn't a facade to pawn off as an excuse, unless you're the racist pawning it off as an excuse. Those of us that lost ancestors due to the evil before them, are offended by that.
I guess I can see why nothing gets any better where you work.

And you raise valid points. But at some point, people must realize that those of us whose families came to this country after the abolition of slavery, were not party to those events. In fact, most immigrants, like the Irish, were treated as badly as blacks and Chinese. My great grandparents lived in, wait for it, a CAVE in the 1890s while they built their home in rural Texas. A cave. A freaking cave. For three years. In a cave. Then a tornado came and blew down their home a few years later and, you guessed it, they had to move back into the cave while they rebuilt. Are there institutions in this country that were built on the backs of free labor? Of course. But so were the pyramids--- and the sons of Abraham have thrived as a tribe since those days. A madman who slaughtered millions of them less than 80 years ago managed to only increase their resolve. Jewish run businesses and industry dominate the landscape, and they were almost wiped out en mass.

If we continue to use race, any race of any people, as a crutch or excuse for why certain people don't succeed, we will always use it. It will never go away. And instead of being simply an American, if we continue to label groups with "African American" or "Latin American" or "Irish American", then there's a built in cop out to use if life doesn't turn out the way you want it. I've seen billionaire trust fund kids that couldn't spell cat if you spotted them the C and T-- and likewise I've seen ghetto crack heads drag themselves out of the crack house and go on to start a business and build an empire.

It's Darwin. And right now we live in a world where reverse Darwinism is the order of the day. That goes against the laws of nature. Slow lions starve. Sick antelope get eaten. Dumb zebras drown in the river. It's what keeps the gene pool from getting weak. Humans however, aren't playing by those rules and it will eventually catch up to us in a very bad way.

Aye, mine came over through Ellis Island in the 1840's. They were escaping the Irish potato famine. Fourteen and fifteen respectively without parents, never saw them again. The boats were filthy and many died on the way. They had nothing.... they signed up in New York as labor to build the railroad. Never learned much english, they spoke gaelic.

The Irish were not treated as badly as Black people. I stopped reading right there. That's not a myth, it's a flat out lie and some BS. Black people have been slaves much longer than we've been free. It didn't stop there and black codes were just as bad. They weren't murdered like Black people. They weren't enslaved like Black people. They weren't separated from their families. Babies weren't snatched from their arms by evil and sold to evil. They didn't have there towns bombed in America because they were prosperous. They weren't experimented on by the US government. The Irish eventually benefited from white privilege.

Unlike institutionalized chattel slavery, indentured servitude was neither hereditary nor lifelong; unlike black slaves, white indentured servants had legal rights; unlike black slaves, indentured servants weren't considered property.

I knew someone would do it.

Dude, enough with the racial comments. No more. You're looking for an argument with your race baiting antics when someone doesn't agree with you. There are other forums out there for this kind of thing.

You've never been a slave, drop the act. People like you are what's wrong with this country. Always wanting sympathy for something that didn't happen to you.

What does that have to do with anything we're talking about? Who asked for sympathy? That's the racist white mantra. That's the copout. That's the, let's put our head in the sand. That's the who cares, let's ignore the impact of our evil past and present. That dog don't hunt with me fella. I know better. You are what's wrong with this country and always have been. Racist breed racist. It happened to my ancestors and it still impacts society, as Black people were slaves a lot longer than we've been free (and it didn't stop with slavery), and we still deal with institutional racism. I don't care that you hate the truth. I'm glad you're offended. You hate a Black point of view. Poll your football team and see if they feel the same way. White men don't get to tell us how to feel.

Copying and pasting from snopes doesn't mean there were no Irish slaves-- in both England and America. Granted, their numbers paled in comparison to those of African slaves, but if this is a contest, which it appears you're trying to make it into, nobody has anything on the Jews. That tribe was enslaved for thousands of years in one form or another, by Egyptians, sumarians, Romans, greeks-- the list goes on. In a plot twist, the Jews also OWNED slaves throughout the centuries. And therein lies the problem with pointing toward one single group of the populace and exclaiming "we had it worse than anyone---" because that is a slippery slope. Believe it or not, the United Nations did a report back in 2016 that stated there are 40-45 million chattel slaves around the world right now. Many of them bought and sold in broad daylight at markets. The Islamic Republic of Mauritania may have passed laws against chattel slavery, but none of the laws are enforced. It's estimated that 100,000 slaves are owned as property right now in that country. The UN estimates that China currently has millions of people in slave labor camps as we speak. China is responsible for well over 10 million deaths of slaves in these slave camps. Currently in Russia, it is estimated that there are 5.5 slaves for every 1000 citizens. That's over 800,000 people, not stuck in a gulag mind you, that are bought and paid for slaves. Many are stuck in trafficking sex, obviously-- and will never escape from the "debt" they owe because they were purchased.

White privilege is a term coined by people with an agenda. I've spent more time in Africa, both sub-saharan and northern, and eastern, than almost anyone I know. We in America are ALL privileged. I've walked with people for MILES just to get water from a sh!tty well. If you have a faucet in your residence and water comes out of it, by comparison, you're privileged. Hell if you've got a roof over your head, then you're privileged by comparison. If you can walk to school and not have to worry about stepping on a land mine left over by your country's civil war, you're privileged. Poor people in this country are wealthy by comparison.

Might I suggest, for some perspective, if you haven't done this yet--- go to africa. Dig a few water wells. Help build a filtration system. Help install solar panels and build power poles and help get electricity to rural areas. Put some miles on your soul and help people at the same time. It will gain you perspective as to the plight of people who aren't fortunate enough to have been born in this country. There's no such thing as a perfect nation. Every nation and every society has skeletons in their collective closet. But to focus on trying to turn back the hands of time and change something that neither you, I, nor anyone else alive in this country actively or even passively participated in, is an effort in futility. Nobody gave me anything. I earned a scholarship playing a sport that I am a minority in. I earned that scholarship on merit. I earned my education. I was pre-judged as a "dumb jock" simply because I was an athlete. I know what a form of discrimination feels like, though I readily admit it's nothing compared to racial discrimination. What I can tell you is that I worked my ass off to get educated despite having a label attached to me. And therein lies that problem---- as long as we as American continue to place labels on each other, the idea of discrimination will continue to exist. And please don't be fooled, there are people in this country that profit from there being dog whistles about racial discrimination. They don't want it to go away because, well, they get rich off the backs of those people who's ancestors used to be slaves. Sounds kind of familiar---

Clob I get what you’re saying but I just like you have stories personally where I almost went to jail for something I had nothing to do with. Cops believed a group of white (older) folks before a group of hispanics(older). I’ve also been harassed by a white cop for getting into my friends car because we looked to “young” to be driving. I’ve also had 2 white officers come to my own home and question me for something I called in myself. Look we all have stories and I understand some won’t believe me or someone that’s been racially profiled. If you’ve never felt it it’s hard to believe and understand. I don’t want sympathy and I don’t need it. But to say “white privilege” doesn’t exist is turning a blind eye or just really not paying attention. Not sure what to call it but there’s some type of I’ll believe this person over this one type stuff.

I just want to say even after my run in with officers and ignorant folks I don’t judge a group of people or cops. We all have stupid people in our group of friends right? Same goes for races/ethnicities etc.
