Like him or not, the guy is a damn good businessman and I would feel comfortable with him at the wheel of the economy.
Also, a good businessman recognizes his weaknesses and is adept at putting people in positions of strength in those areas. Trump has proven in his business life that he can put his ego aside and delegate the right people in places where he needs expertise. I believe he would assemble one hell of a cabinet.
At this point if I was going to pick a running mate for him, I would go with Dr. Ben Carson.
