My Departure from Orangebloods

Hey there guys!

I'm sure some of you are wondering why I haven't been posting.

Orangebloods has always been a place that I hold near and dear to my heart because of the amazing community @Ketchum and the staff here have created since I became a member with my Dad back in the early 2010's. When I was offered the opportunity to join the team it felt surreal and I was thankful for the opportunity! I was able to work with some fantastic folks, and get an inside look at some of the best sports journalism on the internet.

That being said, I just don't have the capacity to do it anymore. Things are absolutely exploding in a good way with my current employer and my wife and I are in the beginning phases of starting a family. Coupling the two is going to be a big enough task in of itself and I felt like I would be doing the board and my colleagues more of a disservice with these extended period of absences. While I do feel like I can offer up some really good basketball insight (which I will), it's time for me to move on. If I felt like I could do it I would. The opportunity in front of me with my current employer is one that I absolutely CANNOT pass up.

That being said I will always be browsing the board and should any of you have questions, feel free to ask 'em! I'll provide any insight when I have the time.

That being said I want to thank @Ketchum , @Suchomel @Alex Dunlap , @CHastings , @Sunny Nelson @Anwar Richardson @CodyCarpentier @Travis Galey , working with you has been a pleasure and I appreciate the opportunity. Be thankful for these peeps while you have them. Best in the industry by far.

Thoughts on the cult of Trump

This thread is for Dems. Trumpers and Trump voting Pubs feel free to comment, but I’m not talking to you here.

I was talking to my wife last night and we think we finally got the feel of why the support for Trump is what it is.

A whole lot of Trump supporters have absolutely fallen in love with Trump…but they worship the image and idea of him. They have made him, in their minds, a deity-like figure that will save us all from what they perceive as evil.

Here’s the thing - they have completely dissociated Trump the image and Trump the real person. They wave their hands at the crazy things he says. They blow off Jan 6. They blow off and don’t believe all the claims against him.

They are so engaged in the Trump ideal that they have completely transformed what he actually is to some wondrous ideal.

My wife’s sister is a Trumper. She sent her sister the video of Trump blowing the microphone. She wouldn’t even look at it. I posted it here, challenging a Trumper to defend it…and HE wouldn’t look at it either.

They don’t want to know what he actually is. They cling desperately to a false idol. They won’t even consider that he might not be what they believe in. And it doesn’t even matter to them. They are voting for an image.

I feel for thinking conservatives who are stuck with a choice of this guy or a vote against their principles and beliefs. But at least they are not cultists.

How we will tell early how the election will come out

We are pretty clearly not going to have a full idea of the outcome of the election early on Election Day. But we can get a good idea of how it will go from the exit polling, which is FAR more accurate that the pre-election polls.

The exit polls never release actual candidate v candidate totals. They won't say in NC, Trump 50.0, Harris 49.5 or whatever. But you can use the data within them to get that. Here's how. I'll use the 2016 PA poll. https://www.cnn.com/election/2016/results/exit-polls/pennsylvania/president

And don't gripe about it being CNN. All of the media (including Fox) pool together to get one set of exit polling. It's the same people, and the data is the same on all networks.

In that poll, party ID went D 42, R 39, I 20. Hillary took 87% of Dems, 9% of Rs, and 41% of Is. Add those percentages up.

.42 x .87 plus .39 x .09 plus .20 x .41 = 48.25%
Trump was .42 x .11 plus .39 x .89 plus .20 x .48 = 48.93%

Per the exit poll, Trump won by 0.68 points.

Actual was R 48.18, D 47.46%. Actual margin: R+0.72 points.

For reference, exit polls from 2020

NC Exit poll R+1.9, actual R+1.3
PA Exit poll D+1.5, actual D+1.2
MI Exit poll D+3.6, actual D+2.8
WI Exit poll D+0.9, actual D+0.7
TX Exit poll R+7.1, actual R+5.6

It's not exact, for sure, but very close. My question is how they get this so close. Must be something with the sample sizes. Anyway, they release these polls in each state after the polls close. So we can use them election night to make a decent guess. In 2016, I knew Trump had won before 10 PM, because of these polls. Same in 2020, for Biden.

But let’s just ignore the statistic. Open border is not a problem. Let’s legalize narcotics. What could go wrong ?

A GREAT Perspective on the Outcome of this Election - From a Conservative!

'All that matters is Kamala loses'

For those fence sitters or those Repubs or Conservatives who just can't or won't pull that lever for Trump, a MANDATE matters, and you choose not to help with that! the Author of this piece states his personal issues with Trump, BUT outlines exactly why Mrs. Harris would finish off what The Big Guy has started. This is a good, short read.

"The “old” Republican Party — the party of Bush and Dole and McCain and Romney and McConnell and Ryan — abhors Trump and his America First agenda. Worse, these Republicans abhor and reject the base. Erstwhile “conservative” or “rock-ribbed” Republicans including Dick Cheney and Arnold Schwarzenegger have endorsed the obviously illiberal Harris."

"They would surrender their country to preserve their phony “honor” for … what? It isn’t honor at all. It’s self-interest. It’s a profound misunderstanding of politics. It’s a death wish. No, thank you. Happily, their time has passed. They’re essentially Democrats now. They are finished, whether they realize it or not."

Betting Markets and Fraud

Libs - many, if not most of you, believe the betting markets are being manipulated by MAGA supporters to make it look like Trump is winning. I don’t agree, but fine.

We’re essentially a week out and Trump’s lead in betting markets just keeps growing. Up to an average of 61% as of this morning.

Here’s my question for you - at what point do people start taking the free money and betting Kamala for .37 cents on the dollar? Will the MAGA fraudsters go all the way to the end without covering their bets and just eat millions in losses?

How’s this all gonna work? I’ll hang up and listen.

Texas BASEBALL - 2026 Catcher Commits! - updated with quotes

The Longhorn staff has been working on identifying who they wanted at catcher for the 2026 class. That search is over.

Jax Robinson of Waxahachie has committed to play baseball for Texas this afternoon, becoming the 18th member of the 2026 class.

Robinson has played both 3B and Catcher in high school, but his future is certainly behind the plate. A 6 foot 190 lb frame, Jax has good athleticism and quickness. He moves well behind the plate, transitioning into his transfer well and putting up very solid numbers with his pop time. Jax has a strong arm as well, helping keep runners in check. A left handed hitter, which the coaching staff covets, he has shown solid power and the ability to drive the ball to all fields.

UPDATED WITH QUOTES:
  1. The main thing I was looking for during the recruiting process was resources to help further my development offensively and defensively. Visiting Texas and being around the amazing coaching staff allowed me to learn how much they can help me and allow me to improve, which was a huge factor in my decision. I also wanted to find a place that I loved, and when I went on my visit to Texas, I loved every aspect of the school/education, community, and program.
  2. Catcher is 100% my preferred position; I love everything about it: the intensity, being able to be a leader, and controlling the game. One of my high school coaches always reminds me that I need to work at other positions because flexibility creates opportunities. I enjoy the thrill of playing other positions, and I believe the knowledge and skills to play multiple positions will improve my defensive play.
  3. I was blessed to have the opportunity to visit numerous top-level programs, and I am grateful for all the programs that reached out to me. My final grouping came down to Texas and Texas A&M. I decided Texas was the better option for me to pursue my baseball and academic careers, and I am blessed to call the University of Texas home.
  4. I'm familiar with most of the guys in the '26 class, but I'm most excited to play with my visit group. We got to create a good connection with each other all weekend and have kept in contact through our recruiting processes. I have built strong friendships with Easton Autrey, Trent Maybin, James Jorgensen, Reiston Durham, and Brody Bumila, and I'm pumped to meet the other guys. I've also got to catch many of the pitchers, so there is already a connection there.
  5. Jared [Thomas] called me about 10 minutes after I posted and helped me a lot throughout this process. He is an amazing guy and always helps me out with anything that I need. Jared has been a huge role model to me, as he gives me advice and honest opinions. When he called me to congratulate me and told me work doesn't stop, he encouraged me to work hard, as I've seen how his hard work has paid off.

US Senate Race - Texas

From the attached article:

This election cycle so far, Allred has raised over $80 million. Cruz meanwhile has raised over $86.7 million, including money he raised in the years after his 2018 run and before Allred entered the race.

Allred’s campaign has spent over $31 million on television ads this cycle, according to AdImpact. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has invested a further $10 million, according to AdImpact.

Freaking nuts what people on both sides are spending/raising to get elected.

Today Looking Like Landmark Day For The End of the NCAA and Big Boy Sports

Judge declined to grant preliminary approval of the “NIL Settlement.” Key reasons:

1. She disagrees with limitation of NIL for “valid business purposes.” In essence she wants straight pay for play/employment
2. Disagrees that NCAA can bind future players by these settlement terms.

NCAA told judge those were non-starters. Judge said get it resolved or go to trial. NCAA cant win a trial and cant afford the likely damages. So it’s player employment or bankruptcy.

The takeover of private money and super league may be sooner than expected.

Deportations ...

... Was just reminded that Slick Willy (if that name is alright with you, @toursauce?) DEPORTED OVER 11 M Illegals while he was in office. It wasn't that long ago, and I don't recall ANY kind of pushback from his fellow Lefty's or those that have been crying here recently (OB Lefty's) about Trump, if he gets back in, deporting somewhere around a similar number of Illegals!

Goo Goo, you got anything on this????

Today’s Gift (11-4)

Anybody can love the most wonderful parts of another person. But that’s not the clever trick. The really clever trick is this: Can you accept the flaws?” —Elizabeth Gilbert

Have you ever had the “what if” conversation with your spouse or partner? What if I die before you, would you want to find another spouse when I’m gone?

We’ve occasionally done this exercise and one time we contemplated the thought of what we would look for in a new spouse. It was funny to hear what my wife and I would look for and what things would be deal breakers. I learned about the things that my wife wished I could change about myself and vice versa.

At the end of this conversation I was comforted to know that my wife accepts my flaws as I do hers because the strengths outweigh the flaws by a wide margin.

We all have flaws we might wish we could change. I’m grateful that our Creator accepts us for who we are and is willing to help us change on a journey to become better people.

Be careful out there!
