Basketball Ticket Strategy

Hey all... I wanted to share my basketball ticket buying strategy. I do not go often, maybe once a year. Sometimes once every two/three years, depending on my schedule. However, I am currently on a 7-0 stretch and have seen some really big Ws at home vs. some highly ranked opponents (KU, NC, etc...).

So, early in the year I look at the Texas' schedule and find a few fun home Saturday match-ups. Then, I review the schedule for each of the opponents... and I can usually find at least one where the opponent played a big game on a Wednesday night and Texas's last game was Monday night, meaning Texas has fresher legs on their home court. Like I said, I can usually find at least one. My wife, a complete non sports fan, loves going to Texas BBall with me because she's seen some really fun home wins, where the crowd was packed and jazzed. Anyway, thought I would share. Hook'em tonight and tomorrow morning!

Anti-Semitic riots overnight in Amsterdam

WTH?

“The thugs who committed this crime against the jewish people in #AmsterdamAttack are not “pogroms” and are not European!

They are the “Free Palestine” supporters from the radical Arabs and Muslims who immigrated to Europe loaded with extremism and hate to the West.

Ironically, they are the same people who have been leading protests asking the jewish people to leave their home in Israel and go back to Europe!

These criminals must be appropriately punished! Otherwise, Europe will turn into a big bloody mess.”

Bernie rips into Democrats

He’s spot on here IMO. It’s also worth remembering that less than a decade ago Rogan supported Bernie for POTUS over Trump. The American people just largely want to vote for authentic candidates and are more than willing to make concessions for shit they don’t like as long as they believe it’s stuff the candidate actually believes in whether it’s Trump’s nutty ideas or Bernie’s.

Today’s Gift (11-8)

“There’s some pressure on parents to make everything look easy. … It may not be a bad thing to show your children that you are working hard to achieve your goals.” —Laura Schulz, a professor of cognitive science at MIT

I’m not sure my generation can relate to the first part in the above quote. I don’t recall my parents trying to make things look easy, at least not all of the time. My Dad, for example, didn’t allow me to sit around the house and watch TV. He came home one day after work and told me that I start my new job in two days…a paper route that I did not know was even available. I met my district manager the next day and after that I had a large route to take care of every morning EARLY.

I’m grateful he did that, it helped me learn how to work hard for what I wanted to spend money on. I learned how to take care of customers well so that I would get Christmas tips, etc.

As a new grandparent, the temptation is to spoil, spoil, spoil my grandchildren, but I hope my daughter and son-in-law instill the same work ethic that we taught our kids.

Each generation IMHO should do its best to instill the value of hard work so that the next generation can create a better life for themselves.

Be careful out there!

"He is NOT ruled out" | Players to Watch vs. Florida

Players to Watch for Florida

  • #13 Jaden Baugh, RB - 1 Thing: Rivals has Baugh listed at 197 lbs, but today on the Florida website he is *checks note* 227 lbs... whoa! He is a freshman who is BUILT FOR THIS CONFERENCE, and if you've watched Florida this year you have watched him prove that over the last few weeks while rushing for 195 yards on 51 carries gainst Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee... whoa! I know @Ketchum 195 / 51 = 3.8 yards per carry, but for a Freshman against THOSE defensive lines, I'm giving him some flowers, for his time filling in for Montrell Johnson (Questionable for this weekend)

  • #6 - Elijhah Badger, WR - 1 Thing: My first time watching Elijah Badger was in 2023 when he was playing for Arizona State and he reeled in 134 yards on 12 receptions as the Sun Devils went back and forth with the than 4-2 Colorado Buffs.

  • #21 - Desmond Watson, DL - 1 Thing: Watson is literally bigger than T'Vondre Sweat, and I'm not just saying that as a joke. He is listed on the Florida website as 6'5 449 lbs. Nearly 100 lbs heavier than the next biggest player on the roster (Freshman Sebastian Scott at 354 lbs) - Watson isn't the best football player, but he is a big piece of Mass that will need to be moved on Saturday. *Look at the size of this dudes hand on Spencer Rattler's helmet, last year*

  • #25 - Cormani McClain, CB - 1 Thing: Everyone remembers McClain from his days in Colorado after being the Top ranked Cornerback to follow in Travis Hunter's footsteps to go play for Deion Sanders last year, but he walked on to the Florida team this summer and has recently found himself in the depths of an SEC gauntlet. McClain didn't play a single snap until the Week 8 win against Kentucky where he saw 15 snaps in coverage and took home his first career interception. In Week 10 against Georgia, McClain saw 53 snaps on defense including 31 in coverage, he allowed 3 receptions on 5 targets for 43 yards to the Dawgs, and with multiple starters down in Week 11 (red line below), it's going to be McClain, the 6-1 175 lbs Sophomore Cornerback, lined up on the outside on Saturday morning.

Florida Head Coach Billy Napier Press Conference (Tuesday & Wednesday) Notes

  • Head Coach Billy Napier during his opening statement: "Very talented roster, Top to bottom at every position - Elite height, length, speed, athleticism. They have a veteran quarterback with a rebuilt skill group around him and a handful of offensive linemen with a lot of experience as well. I do think their returners are dynamic in the kicking game and just in general the athleticism they play with, in the kicking game presents a number of issues, so we'll need to be buttoned up there. On defense, I'm really impressed with the overall makeup of that group, explosive at every level first, second, and third level. They have an identity and a blueprint and think they do a great job playing situationally as well."

  • Head Coach Billy Napier on DJ Lagway dealing with the situation (return to Texas and injury): "Injuries are one of the more difficult parts of the profession, both playing and coaching. We have positive information on that front, so we do think the injury is less significant and we do think there is a pathway to recovery and return, we found that out yesterday, so a lot of good on that front. And he has been doing well this morning, we have NOT completely ruled him out - a lot of that will be to be determined."

  • Head Coach Billy Napier on Injuries to CB, Devin Moore and CB, Dijon Johnson and the outlook on Freshman (Grimsley/Foster): "I think they are capable, I think they are green, they've got all the traits that you would look for - some a little more mature than others. I do think there is talent there, height, length, athleticism. It's a deep room that has been hit with the injury bug, and I think some of the competitive depth we have recruited and developed has shown up there (Obviously Cormani continues to get a little bit better, he has impressed me with how he has been able to manage it), a lot of our guys are capable.

  • Head Coach Billy Napier on the CHANGE in his team this year during the Bye Week: "We were able to come up for air, we had high expectations - really good dialogue with player. The team stayed tight together and Wednesday during the Bye Week was the "Best Practice" I've been a part of in 20 years of coaching. This team did not splinter during the first four weeks."

  • Head Coach Billy Napier on coaching at DKR: "DKR is on the bucket list for aspiring coaching, I've been there one game before."
