Random Thoughts By an Age Old Poster

I have seen the comment "this is a game we lose in years past" several times, and I do agree with that comment. This just had one of those ball bouncing the right way, the better team was finding a way to lose, road game which gets away often in college football. This had a different feel than the Bama game though. Vandy got "less lucky" in that game somehow.

I never felt that Vandy offense was going to post many long sustained drives on us, they needed short fields, and thanks to two picks and (another) horsesh-t punt we gave them the majority of their easy points.

Quinn was very sharp when he threw the ball yesterday. Heavy emphasis on the when and to whom. Both those picks were clearly fortunate bounces for Vandy but I am also surprised he does not get more passes batted given his release point half the time. Again, back to point one, ball bounced the right way.

We also should have capitalized multiple times to put this game away. That Personal foul was brutal, the game was over on that play, we would have scored, flipped the field and made them drive.

The OL penalties were nuts, but more than 1 or 2 were also pretty borderline (the Banks holding call was a stretch at best)

All things considered, the defense played very well given the position we put them in. That said, they convert on a just one of those late 4th and longs, the game is over earlier for sure. Personally I wish we brought the house at least one of those time we had a "put them away" opportunity. (I know the kid was slippery)

Wisner is what he is. Solid, dependable. Makes some excellent plays. Will surprise you. Not a back DCs are super panicked about. We have to go portal for a game changer or two next year IMO.

Our punting situation scares the daylights out of me. See the GA punter if you want to see how that can change a game.(for the better)

McDonald was a beast yesterday. LOVE to see that. He was torched here and there earlier this year, that said, kid is an alpha back there.

Tip you cap to Ags, all you can do. The irony that they are back to musical chairs at QB and it actually worked is nuts. They were spiraling when then n China Doll came back against Mizzou and lit them up.

Outside maybe Oregon, I am not sure who deserves to be slotted where in the top 10. What I do know is the Big 10 is piling up teams heading for some beatings. Penn State and Indiana should get worked by any true top 5 team. I would actually love to play either. Miami should also have 2 losses against a sh-t schedule. GA and Oregon are probably the best 2 teams with Ohio State close but not sold on Howard....

Don't look now but Deion may win 9-10 games in a really bad B12.

Arky is literally schitzo but you will get that with a green (talented) QB. Let's hope he has an off day with us but I would not hold your breath. Actually between Florida, Arky,m and Aggie we could be facing very similar profiles at QB, slight differences but all young, raw and we will have some film.....I wonder if Jelani could be a spy?

I am saddened by the lack of a breakout year by J. Cook, I thought we would see more carries for Gibson down the stretch, and I still which I could understand why J-Blue has not come of age after what we saw last year.

Next up a suddenly clicking Florida. That said, with our defense, and now some film on the true Fish we should be able to make life difficult on offense for them.

I said it in the last 3 games and looks like I should be used to it, we'll see what Quinn shows up. That will determine our fate.....

F1 - Another reason to dislike Max

Let me start by saying that I absolutely admire Max's driving prowess. I think he might be the GOAT. With that said, I've always found him to be a prickly, surly a-hole. The linked article quotes Max saying that he'll likely retire earlier than he initially projected because he has to follow the no profanity rules. How obtuse can a man be? F1 wants to appeal to families who often have young children and don't want those children exposed to profanity. Personally, I'm former Navy, so I swear, well, like a sailor, but not when children are present or when it's generally not appropriate. Maybe try lobbying the FIA for rule changes instead of being a whiny quitter.

Just an educated thought!!!

Grant Teaff was a very good coach at Baylor University and was very successful. He had a problem one year with Tom Muecke and Cody Carlson as quarterbacks. He managed to play both and was very successful with that process. We have two very good and different skilled quarterbacks at UT this year! I personally think we would succeed playing both QB’s and making the opponent prepare for both of their unique skills.
I am personally having a hard time thinking we are going to be successful with the current path! I have coached for many years and just want us to be successful and know this has worked before! Hook Em!!!

Instant Analysis: How we feeling about that?

"Not my problem. We won. Next game"

Those were Steve Sarkisian words less than two weeks ago when asked about the worthiness of UT's win over Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.

Something tells me we might har a similar message after UT's win over Vanderbilt in Nashville today.

The Longhorns didn't play a game that will win many playoff games, but that wasn't the task today. The task today was winning the team's first true road game in the SEC.

Mission accomplished.

Now the Longhorns can move into the bye week with the understanding that there's a level of performance that wasn't good enough for much more than what was accomplished. The Texas offense isn't an elite unit and this coaching staff has to figure out how to change this reality that has lasted for more than a month.

AS for the Quinn Ewers set of storylines, it was truly a tale of two halves. Ewers was All-America level in the first 2 quarters, but he was something far less than that in the second half. Check out these numbers by Ewers over the course of the game:

1Q: 12 of 13 for 126 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT (201.3 rating)
2Q: 7 of 8 for 85 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT (218.0 rating)
3Q: 6 of 9 for 39 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT (103.1 rating)
4Q: 2 of 7 for 36 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT (74.2 rating)

That's a passer rating of 76.7 in the final two quarters of the game.

Is that about Ewers? Is this the offense? Is it just a perfect storm?

I tend to want to give him the benefit of the doubt for a strong game because the two interceptions weren't really awful plays by him, but there's no question that the second half wasn't good enough.

The talk from the last week won't go away.

(Other thoughts...)

* Third and 20 and Ewers makes his best play of the game in hitting Silas Bolden for a first down over the middle. Huge play. It ended up being the difference between giving Vandy the ball near midfield vs. taking over its next possession at its own 17-yard line.

* Penalties are killing this team. Hell, even Kelvin banks had a pair today. What in the wild, wild world of sports...

* Was today Trey Moore's best game as a Longhorns player? I think so.

* I saw Silas Bolden make a fair catch. That might be a sign that the apocalypse is upon us.

* Michael Taaffe with a forced fumble and interception in the first half. Take that, Billy Bowman!

* Deandre Moore had 5 catches for 92 yards and 2 TD in the first half. With Isaiah Bond out, is Moore WR1? I think you'd have to say yes.

* That was some kind of touchdown catch by Matthew Golden. Crazy that he hasn't been in the end zone since week two.

* Texas has trailed in the first quarter of three straight games after not allowing a point in the first quarter in the first 5 weeks of the season.

* Is Cam Williams playing himself back into needing another year? It sure feels that way in the last two weeks.

* Why was Barryn Sorrell not credited with a sack when pushing Diego Pavia out of bounds for a slight loss just before the Taaffe forced fumbled? That's twice that's happened to Sorrell this season.

* Jelani McDonald looked fantastic at times in his first start at safety. I don't want to overreact, but that's the most athletic Texas as looked at safety all season. McDonald led the Longhorns at halftime with 5 tackles and a tackle for loss.

* I'm not sure that Michael Kern deserves to start at ahead of Ian Ratliff.

* Matthew Golden taking the opening kickoff out four yards deep from the end-zone instead of taking a knee was just ridiculous. That decision, coupled with a penalty, meant that Texas started its opening drive at its own 7-yard line.

Another big difference between Liberals and Conservatives

can anyone shoe me a Conservative doing this to someone else's child ?

Hey Liberals ! just compartmentalize this and don't publicly renounce these actions, its OK we know who you are

these precise actions occurred in Germany around 1933s exactly what started happening...just another historic event that you allow yourself to define 180 degrees incorrectly, the other way
