7th Grade Football in Stamford, Tx 1970.

I played 7th grade football in Stamford in 1970. We were undefeated, 6-0. It was the first year Stamford started allowing 7th graders to play.
The reason we were undefeated was simple. His name was Don Earl. He was a RB.

The varsity made the playoffs, and Don, and I had Study Hall 7th period. Our 7th grade Coach came into Study Hall and got Don Earl on Monday. Coach had a pair of white practice pants over his shoulder and handed them to Don as he said, "come on". We found out later that Don was going to practice with the Varsity, for their Bi-District game. They put Don Earl at RB on the scout team against the starting defense. First play, they ran a sweep and Don Earl took it to the house against the Varsity, as a 7th grader.

This week is probably the marquee event of the year for Indianapolis. NFL scouts, GM’s, coaches, players, agents, media and hangers-on are marching around downtown Indianapolis going from hotel bar to hotel bar with stops at Lucas Oil Stadium in between.

But this year, there will be a side of burnt orange served alongside the shrimp cocktail at St. Elmo’s Steak House.

A school record 11 Texas Longhorn players will be taking part in the combine.

DT – T’Vondre Sweat (on-field workouts on Thursday, Feb. 29th @ 2:00 pm CST)
DT – Byron Murphy (on-field workouts on Thursday, Feb. 29th @ 2:00 pm CST)
LB – Jaylan Ford (on-field workouts on Thursday, Feb. 29th @ 2:00 pm CST)
DB – Ryan Watts (on-field workouts on Friday, March 1st @ 2:00 pm CST)
WR – Adonai Mitchell (on-field workouts on Saturday, March 2nd @ 12:00 pm CST)
WR – Xavier Worthy (on-field workouts on Saturday, March 2nd @ 12:00 pm CST)
WR – Jordan Whittington (on-field workouts on Saturday, March 2nd @ 12:00 pm CST)
TE – Ja’Tavion Sanders (on-field workouts on Saturday, March 2nd @ 12:00 pm CST)
RB – Jonathon Brooks (on-field workouts on Saturday, March 2nd @ 12:00 pm CST)
RB – Keilan Robinson (on-field workouts on Saturday, March 2nd @ 12:00 pm CST)
OL – Christian Jones (on-field workouts on Sunday, March 3rd @ 12:00 pm CST)

It’s appropriate that Murphy and Sweat will be the first Longhorns to take the field. After all, Murphy is looking like a lock now to be the first Longhorn drafted and to go somewhere in the middle of round one.

The two defensive tackles formed an unbreakable wall at the front of the defense this past season. The Texas defense gave up only 82.36 yards per game on the ground in 2023, good for third best in the country (behind Penn State and UCLA).

“We were pretty dominant up front,” linebacker Jaylan Ford told reporters at the NFL Combine Wednesday. “We were able to achieve things that we hadn’t achieved at Texas in a while.”

Replacing those two monsters won’t be easy (and spoiler alert – Texas doesn’t have another T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy waiting in the wings).

Don’t get me wrong, players and coaches are excited about Vernon Broughton, Jaray Bledsoe and Alfred Collins.

“Alfred Collins can do everything,” T’Vondre Sweat said Wednesday during his NFL Combine interviews. “I feel like a lot of people sleep on Alfred Collins. Bull crap. He’s a great guy and he’s going to do awesome things this year and I can’t wait to watch him.”

But Collins has been around a while and he’s flashed a lot of potential, but he hasn’t shown he can consistently put it all together.

That’s ok. The 2024 Texas Longhorns defense doesn’t have to try to do it the same way the 2023 team did to be just as good, if not better.

“The 2024 version of Texas Longhorns football is going to look a little different than the 2023 version,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said during the national signing day press conference earlier this month. “My job is to identify the strengths of this team and then play to the strengths.”

The strength of next season’s defense will likely shift along the defensive line from the inside to the outside.

Texas finished last season tied for 39th in the country with 32 sacks on the season and five of those came from Byron Murphy. Ethan Burke led the team with 5.5.

Texas can do better in 2024.

“I’m hopeful the edge guys can contribute in a way where we can have a lot more impact with our pass rush off the edge,” said Sarkisian.

In comes Trey Moore, the nation’s leading sack artist last season with 14 sacks at UTSA.

se0rkrtaa8r2huowtxtw

If Broughton, Bledsoe and Alfred Collins really can play like everyone hopes they can play, then it is going to free up Moore to make a lot of sacks this year.

Texas has not had a double-digit sack guy since Jackson Jeffcoat got 13 sacks in 2013 (Cedric Reed added 10 sacks of his own that year). Moore has a chance to break that dry spell. Moore is fast and physical and he understands how to get to the quarterback.

Moore is already generating the kind of buzz in winter workouts that you would expect from an elite player.

Check out this nugget from @Anwar Richardson in the War Room a couple of weeks ago.

“I was told former UTSA EDGE Trey Moore looks good, from a physical standpoint,” Anwar reported. “One person told me Moore is in tremendous shape and physically looks like a guy who belongs at Texas.”

@Alex Dunlap followed up with his own Moore nugget in the same War Room report.

“I asked how the new edge guys, Colin Simmons and Trey Moore, looked. ‘Trey is crazy, man. And you know I don't just say that about guys. He's crazy.’ Apparently Moore has been making a solid impression to start out in Austin after transferring in from UTSA.”

Of course Trey Moore isn’t alone. I mentioned Ethan Burke led the team in sacks last season with 5.5. The year before him, Barryn Sorrell led the team in sacks with 5.5. Both players are back, a year older and ready to improve.

Sorrell isn’t just a producer on the field, he is a leader off it. Sorrell has been leading the defense during the winter workout drills.

And of course, we can’t forget young Colin Simmons (as if any of you could possibly forget about Simmons).

I expect Simmons to follow the same path that Anthony Hill paved last year. Simmons will likely start at the bottom of the depth chart during spring practices. There will be buzz about his performance and we may even see a flash or two during the spring game. That buzz will begin to pick up in earnest during the Summer workouts. When fall camp arrives, Simmons will have worked his way into the two-deep. By the time the season kicks off, he’ll get some spot duty here and there. He will continue to impress and gain more and more snaps as the season progresses. By this time next year, we’ll all be talking about Simmons as an impact player.

Texas’ run defense was legendary in 2023. I expect their sack defense to be legendary in 2024.

WHAT WILL HELP GET MORE SACKS?

12100641.jpg

While looking up Texas’ sack totals, I couldn’t help but notice that the 2013 Longhorns (which produced two players with double-digit sacks) were also blessed with an incredibly good secondary, especially at the safety position.

Adrian Phillips and Quandre Diggs are both still earning paychecks in the NFL all these years later. Their lockdown play for the Longhorns in the back end gave just that extra amount of time for the guys up front to get to the quarterback.

The Texas pass defense ended the season ranked 116th in the country giving up more than 250 yards per game. The Sugar Bowl alone saw Michael Pennix shred the Horns 430 yards.

Of course, this is not a new problem in these parts.

“We’ve been talking for a couple of years about wanting to be tighter in coverage and playing a style of defense where, when you’re tight and confident in coverage, you can be aggressive at the line of scrimmage to get to the quarterback,” Sarkisian said.

Texas needs safeties, Derek Williams, Andrew Mukuba and Jahdae Barron at Nickel to step up this year. Being sound up the middle is the best way to force offenses off their games.

Mukuba has played a lot of football at a very high level for Clemson. That experience should pay off for the Horns next year.

“We’re getting a player who has, for three years, been a frontline starter at Clemson and has been playing football at a high level for a very good program, one that I have a ton of respect for Coach Swinney and the job they do at Clemson,” said Sarkisian. “He has been in big-time games, big-time moments.”

Steve Sarkisian praised Derek Williams’ football IQ during the Big 12 Media Days last summer. That showed itself to be true on the field during the season. Williams came on when Jalen Catalon got injured and never gave up the starter’s job. Williams will have another year of experience and can hopefully learn a lot from Mukuba.

Jahdae Barron announced he is using his COVID year and coming back for another season. He is also switching his number from 23 to 7 in honor of Michael Huff. Texas fans better hope he can play like Huff too.

Barron had a dip in production last season compared to the year before (59 tackles in 2023 versus 74 tackles in 2022). But he has shown he can be a playmaker.

“I do not think he (Barron) gets enough credit for the player that he is. He’s extremely impactful and has one of the highest football IQs on our team,” said Sarkisian in November.

If all three players can live up to their pedigree and experience, then Texas can vastly improve their pass defense and that could make all of the difference in the Horns' ability to produce their first double-digit sack artist in more than a decade.

Ok, so the St. John Red Storm didn’t provide much of a speed bump for the Texas Longhorns baseball team, but did you really expect them to?

But the big takeaway here is that the Horns did what they needed to do in the month of February. Texas went 7-1 during the start of the season (all home games) and that included a weekend sweep of Cal Poly where Texas didn’t give up a single run in the three-game series.

"I've been doing this a long time and that's the first time ever that we've gone three straight at home in a series, same team, and put up 27 innings of shutout baseball,” said Texas head coach David Pierce.

I’ve written over and over again about how winning 40 games in a season almost guarantees a berth in the College World Series (45 makes it a lock). Well, Texas got almost a fifth of the way there during the early season stretch. But the games get a lot harder from this point on.

Texas now heads to Houston where they will take on LSU, Texas State and Vanderbilt this weekend. (How is that for a primer for next season’s SEC schedule?)

After that, it’s back home for a Tuesday nighter against Texas A&M before heading to Lubbock for the Big 12 opener against Texas Tech.

Yes, it’s fair to say the baseball season kicks into high gear now.

My only advice to Hayden would be … let the Aggy plan the wedding while you continue to focus on football.

Texas players LB Jaylan Ford and DLs T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy were scheduled on Wednesday to meet with the national media at the NFL combine.. Here is what Jaylan Ford and T'Vondre Sweat had to say as they begins their journies to the NFL draft (Cody Carpentier will have Byron Murphy up as well). All three of these players are scheduled to take part in their on-field physical testing on Thursday afternoon.

JAYLAN FORD

What have you learned about the draft process?

The main thing is I think just being confident in yourself. Understanding that everybody's here for a reason. And never to doubt yourself or think that, you know, that you lack something that somebody else might hold or is capable of. Definitely just believe in yourself.

What do you want NFL teams to know about you as a person and as a teammate?

The team was everything, I come from a culture, a school where, you know, the team was the main priority and a lot of us had to sacrifice the things we wanted to put the team goals ahead and we were able to accomplish the big things doing that.

Were there any formal interviews as part of that process so far?

Yeah, I had a few formals. Indianapolis, Eagles, Rams and Giants.

So has any of this been overwhelming as team after team interview after interview?

I wouldn't say it's overwhelming. I would say it's just kind of, it's more like a, you know, like a job interview to treat it like that. I don't think it gets overwhelming. I think it's actually like, you know, putting yourself up to the plate and doing something that you've been preparing for your whole life and you finally get to do it. Show everything you've been preparing for to other teams, other scouts, other people. Your position is almost like the quarterback of the other defense.

How do you feel you exemplified yourself as the quarterback of the Texas defense?

Yeah, man, just take control of the defense. You know, like you said, being a quarterback of the defense, you got a lot on your plate, a lot of responsibility. And I think the main thing is just making sure you're prepared all the time and, you know, not really thinking about making mistakes, just, being fast and being assertive when you get in the room, you got to be loud, you got to be confident, you got to make them think that what you're saying is right. Almost like being a coach. You got to learn it and be comfortable doing that as a Mike linebacker. You got to relay the calls and all of that.

And how did you go about making sure that was always effective and it got to you, especially the big dogs?

Yeah. If they don't hear me I walk up to them, smack them on the butt a couple of times, especially the big guys, you know, make sure the dude next to me got the call and make sure to dude to my left, the right, behind me, make sure everybody's on the same page. Cause you know, one bad play could be a touchdown.

How much did the guys up front keep you clean?

Man, I think you watched they tape, you know, having them dudes up front, it made my job a lot easier. We were pretty dominant up front. And we were all around, like, you know, we're able to achieve things that we hadn't achieved at the time. At Texas in a while. So I was proud of everybody.

Who's the next QB of the Texas defense, David Gbenda?

I think it's going to be all of them. You know, I think we established a good culture in the linebacker room. Just, whoever's up, they know, they know they got to step up to the plate and be that guy. I haven't been up there in a while, so I don't really know. I don't really know who's, who's who right now. I know the three guys most likely to get most of the reps are Anthony Hill, David Gbenda, and Mo Blackwell. Yeah. So those guys know the standard, they know what it takes to be a linebacker. So I'm really excited to see.

Is Mo Blackwell more of a sub-package guy or can he be an every down LB?

I definitely think he could be in there with Anthony. Actually, you know, I talked to him, kind of, you know, give him words of encouragement for him because the biggest thing for him was like getting his weight up so he could play in the box and he's definitely been able to do that this winter. I talked to my strength coach and he said Mo's been out there flying around, he got a little heavier and, you know, that's always a plus for him.

Why did you not return for a fifth season?

I would just say I decided to come back for my fourth year. And me personally, I thought I was ready to go. I feel like I accomplished what I needed to. I didn't really have any regrets or anything, so I was ready.

Who are some of the LBs that you watch that you might say give a good example of how you play?

I mean, obviously I really like Fred Warner. He's the epitome of a linebacker right now. He can go sideline to sideline, he's a three down guy. He's got great feet, great hands, and he's really passionate about the game. I feel like, uh, that passion is something that I, I feel like I'm here as well. I definitely like to watch this tape. There's a lot of other guys out there, DeMario Davis. I love how physical he is. Man, you got Lavante David, the Bucs, his pass coverage is definitely top notch. The main thing about being a linebacker is you're really, the heart of the defense. So, you gotta, you gotta represent, you gotta display that through how you play.

That passion you mentioned, what, what drives, what creates it? What drives the passion? Wanting to win. Take me through, let's say you got a blitz, you know, the guard is there, you gotta figure out how to get past it, what's, what's your process?

You said I'm on the blitz in the guard? I mean, your main thing is you gotta go to your go to move, whatever that may be. And if that don't work, you gotta work at countering. But that all starts in practice. It all starts with preparation and understanding. When that moment presents itself, how you gonna handle it?

What's your go-to move?

What's my go-to? Uh, I usually just work cross-chop. That's my go-to. You know, usually linebackers hopefully are quicker than the O linemen, so you should be able to work on the other side of it.

What's your expectation level for Texas as it heads into the SEC?

Man, you know, everybody's like 'big boy ball,' you know, but I think them boys are ready. The way we train, I don't think it will change the way that, that mindset that Sark has been able to instill in those guys, including me, it's, it's been a game changer. We've really been able to turn that program around. And, you know, I think it's only up from here. We're only giving confidence to the guys. So I'm really excited to see.

Who is a problem to defend against in practice?

What's a big problem? Man, the running backs, Jonathan Brooks, Bijan Robinson, especially as a linebacker going against them in One on ones. Um, you know, meet them in the hole. Just trying to tackle them. They definitely get you ready for the next level.

What about CJ Baxter and Jaydon Blue?

They definitely got their own different styles. But I think one thing about Sark is he does a good job of making sure he puts the guys in right at the right time. And, you know, he's going to give both of them some reps. So, I'm really just excited to see what they do with it. And, throughout the season they'll prove themselves. You'll get to see who's gonna be the next 1000 yard rusher.

Who's next up at Texas who people might not have heard of?

I like Jelani McDonald ... he's a young guy, but he's definitely developed. The promise that he has to be a great player. I'm really excited to see.

Is McDonald playing nickel or linebacker or what nowadays?

He's playing safety and nickel, one of those. Safety and nickel. Yeah.

What stands out about him?

His size, his speed and I think he just, he loves to have fun. So I, I'm really excited to see how he grows and matures and understands the game more, and can be a player for them.

T'VONDRE SWEAT

What happened with the medical check up today (that made him miss his original interview time)

You know, medical comes first before all this and and everything's good. Can't wait to go compete.

Have you weighed in yet?

I haven't. Weigh in tomorrow. So everybody that wants to know, you'll see tomorrow.

What do you expect? Where do you want to be to be the most effective that you could be?

This past season I played 365 and that's where I feel comfortable at.

That was a pretty big increase from what you played at in previous seasons. What was behind that decision?

You know. You know how a man is. I mean, you want yourself ... we got to grow into our bodies and this is me. As y'all see, I'm a big guy, big frame. And that's just how it is. I just grew into my body, man. Everyone, everyone. But, I'll let y'all know I'm doing everything at the combine before y'all even ask.I feel like a lot of y'all going to be like (makes a shocked face), When I run this 40, you know, I'm gonna shock a lot of y'all.

What do you anticipate running?

4.4 or 4.5 (laughs).

Have you met with the Cowboys?

I did. It went great. Actually, first I got to give a shout out to my guy Paxton (Anderson). He was in there. So that was pretty cool. You know, seeing him on the other side and not as my teammate, you know, so that was pretty cool, but it went great.

What helped you with process of putting on the weight?

God. I mean, God. I'm just a big guy, you know, and a lot of people get scared of the numbers and all that, but when y'all see me move tomorrow, I feel like a lot of people are going to be like, Oh, you're worried about this number? You know what I mean? So, it's just God, and I give a big shout out to my nutritionist at the University of Texas. They helped me a lot, and my coaches. I mean, yeah, it's hard, you know, guys like me can't sit around for a week, you know, you got some guys that can sit around for a week and don't gain weight, but a big guy like me can't sit around. All I could do is sit around for about a day or two, then I got to get up and do something. So that's just how I go about the situation. To push forward. But I like it because it gets me off my butt. You know, not just sitting around. I know myself and I know my body that I know I can't sit around for weeks or just a week, you know, just because if I sit down for a week, I gained about 30 pounds. You know what I'm saying? So I know for a fact I can't do that. So I just sit there for a day or two, take some time to myself, meditate and go about my business like that.

Beyond the weight, do people worry about your conditioning? What do you say to people that say, can he maintain the weight is one thing, but can he maintain that same motor from first quarter to fourth quarter?

100 percent I can. I mean, as y'all seen this past year, I did what I had to do, and y'all will see what I do at the next level.

Did you enjoy all the accolades this year?

I mean, it means a lot, but it really don't. I mean, yeah, I got all that, but I'm here today to compete with the best of the best and just get to meet some new guys that wasn't my teammates, you know? I feel like I'm just taking all this experience in, and it's awesome.

But doesn't it say something, though, to be considered the best defensive player in the conference?

I really don't look into all that, man. I'm just day by day type of guy, you I'm just who I am every day, you know, I don't really look into who the best or nothing like that. I just do what I gotta do.

What does it say about your program, you got so many guys here to combine? Because before Sark got there, Texas was Lighter than guys getting right.

I mean, like I say, big shout out to Coach Sark, man. Great person. What happens when we just all believe and trust, man, and that's what got us to this situation. Just believing and trusting in our head coach.

Where'd you get the nickname from? Loaf? Big Loaf?

Loaf, uh, actually I give a shout out to, uh, Mom that I grew up with. Not my actual mom, but I call her mom cause we grew up. She helped us grow up. Um, Her name is Miss Ebony. Big shout out to her because she's the one who started it, actually started it at a basketball game. She's like, let's go loaf. She's like, alright. That's gonna be your nickname. I'm like, alright. So other than that, it's been loaf, big loaf, meatloaf, anything loaf.

So Do you like eating meatloaf?

I'm not a big fan,

What do you recall from that Alabama game and how that experience was like?

I mean, it was a fun experience going there and playing against Alabama in a home field. I mean, Nick Saban is Nick Saban, so yeah, it's awesome, but I mean, there's really nothing much to it. It's like, it was an exciting experience and we believed in our coach, like I said, and we came out with the victory.

Do you ever go against Kelvin Banks in practice?

No, I'm an interior guy.

Yeah, but anytime where like it's a double team stuff and you're at the 3-tech

About Kelvin Banks, he's definitely gonna be the first tackle off the board next year. 100%.
.
Do you think Alfred Collins can play at the zero tech or the one shade?

Alfred Collins can do everything. I feel like a lot of people sleep on Alfred Collins. Bull crap. He's a great guy and he's gonna do awesome things this year and I can't wait to watch him.

At what point in Texas do you guys feel like, you got a special group here, we got a lot of talent.

Actually, the past offseason, before the season. We went into the offseason knowing what we had. Knowing what we got, and we took every advantage of it that our coach gave us. We all believed, we all came together, we built a culture, and we came out with the outcome we did.

What about Ewers? How much of that was when being an older guy, having a year under his belt?

It actually It helps a lot. We had leadership meetings where we sat there. We had talked to Quinn and we was like, Quinn, you're our quarterback. We need you to be that vocal leader. And that's what he did. And I know he's killing even more now because confidence there. I mean, y'all see Quinn is GOATed. So I can't wait to watch him play either. I really can't. I can't wait to watch all those guys play.

How would you and Murphy push each other?

I will just talk about that. Uh, what helped us this season was of course, the guys next to us, a hundred percent, I feel like that's where a lot of. People like, Oh, how about you and Byron Murphy? You know? Yeah, us. But y'all not thinking about the Alfred Collins or the Vernon Broughton or the, uh, Barryn Sorrell or the Burke.Y'all not thinking about those guys, but those guys compete as hard as we compete. You know? And I feel like I, I like to say their name because a lot of people don't. It is all like, Oh, Murphy or Sweat. Yeah, it's us, but we can't just do it by our dang self, you know what I mean? So, I give all credit to the guy that was next to us.

Yeah, but who's the better receiver between you and Byron?

Uh, I mean, you're looking at him.

Byron said he played running back, you know, going up.

He actually did, he showed me. I, uh, I didn't believe him at first. I was like, you gotta show me, and he showed me.

He's the better runner, you're the better receiver?

I mean, I wouldn't say better, you know. That's my dog.

What do you like to do for a hobby?

Right, I mean, as y'all know, I live in Austin. Got a lot of rich friends. To be honest, you know, I like to go on to big lake houses. So, I like to just go out on the lake or play my video game.

Who are some of the players in the NFL that you like to model your game after?

Big Suh, and Fletcher Cox.

When you're doing these meetings with teams and you're talking how much is Body language, something that you think about ... how you're holding yourself. Is that something that agents coach you on or other outside?

I mean, I feel like you shouldn't really have to be coached on that. I mean, me, I'm also going to be myself as y'all know. I'm myself period point blank period. I'm always going to be myself and just, just me, you know, but I feel like it's ... I mean, you wouldn't want your coach, like say, if I walk into a meeting room and coach Bo Davis was sitting in there, his seat back relaxing, you know, we'd be like, come on coach. WBB: #3 Texas at #20 OU (sux), lose 71-70. 🤬

Really big game Wednesday in Norman. Texas (26-3, 13-3) against the land thieves (20-7, 14-2).

OU (sux) won the 1st meeting in Austin, 91-87, in a game that probably aged Vic 10 years: no defense, lack of focus and heart by the Longhorns until it was too late. An atrocious 2nd quarter saw the Longhorns outscored 28-16. The gooners were led by PG Nevaeh Tot who finished with 14 points, 10 assists and 0 turnovers. All 5 OU (sux) starters finished in double figures, F Skylar Vann with 19.

Texas hasn’t lost since and has to get the road win to at least give themselves a shot at sharing the regular season conference title. With 1 game remaining against BYU, a second loss to the 1st place team would effectively lock them out of the title. Oklahoma‘s last game is against a very dangerous Kansas team.

  • Outside of 4 turnovers, Madison had a good game last go round: 29 points (10/19, 1/1 from 3, 8/8 FT), 6 boards and 3 assists.
  • Expect more pro-Longhorn yelling than you’d normally hear in Norman. Aaliyah Moore has been scrounging every game ticket she can for family, friends and former high school teammates. A-Mo is from very nearby Moore, OK - 20 minutes from her house to the OU (sux) campus.
  • If ‘ifs and buts’…in 2 games last season with Rori all up in her business, Tot had a combined 7 points, 0 assists, and 5 turnovers. :(

The Longhorns gave up 10 3s on 27 attempts and were -11 in assists and lost by 4. Play Vic-level defense, dominate the boards and paint points against an undersized sooner team and the ladies should come home with their win streak intact.

Instant Analysis: Texas saves its season, while TRIGGERED Tech fans throw trash

Cliffs Notes: The Longhorns tightened its grip on a possible NCAA Tournament big by beating a foaming-at-the-mouth Texas Tech squad 81-69 in Lubbock.

The Participants: Texas (18-10, 7-8 Big 12) and Texas Tech (19-9, 8-7 Big 12)

Pre-Game KenPom Rankings: Texas (No. 36) and Texas Tech (No. 31)

Game MVP: There were several candidates for the award, but I'm giving the award tonight to sophomore guard Chendall Weaver, who epitomized the junkyard dog mentality that the team played with all night. Weaver finished with 15 points (5 of 6 from the floor, 9 of 11 from the free throw line), 8 rebounds and 2 assists, while seemingly being around every loose ball on the court.

Game MVP Runner-Up: It feels like we need to give a special shout out to Dylan Disu, who scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Smoking Hot Start: The Longhorns absolutely wrecked shop in the first half, outscoring Tech 47-23 in the opening 20 minutes. While the Red Raiders shot 24.2% from the floor and 10.0% from the three-point line, the Longhorns shot 60% from the field. In the final 7:31 of the half, the Longhorns flat out exploded to the tune of a 28-9 run, which stretched the Texas lead from 5 to 24. The duo of Disu and Max Abmas combined to score 23 points in the half (same as the entire Tech team), while the Texas bench added 22 points on 7 of 9 shooting. It was as good as any half of basketball as Texas has played all season.

D-E-F-E-N-S-E: In UT's previous six Big 12 Conference wins, the Longhorns have held their opponents to 64.3 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the floor. During its 8 Big 12 losses, the Longhorns allowed 78.6 ppg on 49.7% shooting from the floor. Tonight, the Longhorns held the Red Raiders to 69 points on 45.6% shooting.

Brock lights the match: In what will almost certainly be the last visit Texas takes to Lubbock in a long while, senior Brock Cunningham nearly started a riot in the second half with a flagrant two foul that left him ejected from the game and triggered Tech fans like they were Orangebloods subscribers looking at @MB-HORNS wearing an earring. On his way out of the building, Cunningham saluted the Tech crowd by raising his Horns.

Things You Need to Know: The Longhorns dominated the hustle stats, out-rebounding Tech 44-32, while registering 11 steals/blocks to Tech's 6. Meanwhile, a three-man Texas bench combined to score 34 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, while Tech's bench combined for a mere 13 points and a single rebound.

Making History: Abmas finally passed Hersey Hawkins for 11th place in the all-time scoring list and now trails former Saint Peter's star Keydren Clark (3,058 points) for 10th-place by 34 points.

Bracketology: After weeks of being off the bubble, the Longhorns were officially back on the bubble before tonight's game. ESPN has Texas listed as one of the last four teams in the Tournament with a bye as a 10-seed, while Jerry Palm has the Longhorns listed as the first team out of the Tournament. That should change after tonight.

Sellers Backing Out of Real Estate Deal

A question for the resident experts on the board.

I’m supposed to close on Friday for a really nice condo that is currently being used as a rental by the sellers. The terms were 45 days to close and the sellers decided it would be better to get a renter in that goes beyond our closing date and create some chaos for this transaction.

Ultimately, they still haven’t provided the title company banking info for the payoff or formation documents. They’ve pretty much let it be known that they can do what they want and will not relent. From what I’ve gathered from people in my area (McAllen), they aren’t easy people to deal with and their reputation proceeds them.

It’s a one of a kind property and I am going to fight this. The contracts have been reviewed and I have two attorneys that will be working on this case. The TREC contract clearly outlines specific performance and doesn’t seem to have outs for them.

I’m at my wits end with these people, but refuse to not have this property. I wanna make memories with my kids at it and can’t find a like kind of property similar to it. Anyone with any experience going through litigation with a scenario like this?

3rd State removes Trump from Ballot

Illinois joins the party, bans Trump from running for office. They cite Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. The "phantom" insurrection, the unproven lie. As the article reminds, "Trump has never been charged with inciting an insurrection."

Is the liberal version of our country great or what?

Come on Texas. Return the favor with Biden. He's done a thousand times more damage with his border attack on our state/nation.

Texas BASEBALL - Bombs Away on the Red Storm - Game Recap

FINAL SCORE:
Texas - 15
St. John's - 4

Winning Pitcher: Luke Harrison (1-0)
Losing Pitcher: Chris Batuyios (0-1)
BOX SCORE

RECAP:
After giving up a run in the Top 1st inning, the first run that the Horns had given up in 28 1/3 innings, Grubbs was able to bounce back and keep them off the board in the 2nd inning despite giving up a couple of singles. In the bottom of the 2nd, freshman Will Gasparino hit a single to right field, driving in two runs to give the Horns the lead. The Red Storm stormed back in the Top 3rd scoring 2 runs to take a 3-2 lead over the Horns after Luke Harrison gave up a 2 RBI double. The Horns struck back though in the Bottom of the 4th as the Horns put a 5 spot. Will Gasparino got an infield single, scoring Max Belyeu. Jalin Flores then hit a grand slam, his 2nd of the season when he crushed a breaking ball over the LF wall into the street, which put Texas up 7-3. Andre Duplantier got in a spot of trouble in the Top 5th giving up a run, but Heston Tole came in with the bases loaded and slammed the door shut on rally. The Horns then tacked on 3 more runs in the bottom of the Bottom 5th as Gasparino doubled to right CF, scoring Kennedy and Schuessler. Jared Thomas followed that up with an RBI single, scoring Gasparino to make it 10-4. After a quiet 6th inning by both teams, the Horns again put up a crooked number on the board in the Bottom 7th as Powell doubled down the RF line, scoring Thomas, Gasparino, and Belyeu. The next batter up was Jalin Flores who again crushed a belt high pitch to left CF for a two run home run to make it 15-4. Grant Fontenot pitched a scoreless Top 8th, striking out two batters to keep St John's at bay and then Tanner Witt came in to pitch the 9th and sat them down in order 1-2-3, including a strikeout to end the game.

BIG MOMENT:
While there were a couple of big time plays, the top play of the night has to be the grand slam by Jalin Flores. When Flores is able to extend, he is able to tap into some natural raw power. The grand slam was a big moment as it shifted momentum in a big way to the Horns and gave them a lead they would never come close to relinquishing.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE:
While Jalin Flores is well deserving here going 3-5 on the night with a grand slam and a two run home run, I am going to give the award to freshman Will Gasparino who went 3-3 on the evening with 4 RBI and a walk. Tonight is the kind of performance that can drastically boost the confidence of a freshman that has had some nice at-bats early in the season, but is still working on tightening up his swing. Kudos to the young man and many more to come!

TAKEAWAYS:
Have to like what the Horns did at the plate tonight, especially when a guy like Peyton Powell goes 1-4. Casey Borba went 0-5 on the night, but it felt like a good learning experience for him to understand how to adjust in game to how he is being pitched. For Porter Brown, the results did not really show it, but it was quietly a good night as he took each at bat deep into the count. While it is not what everyone wants to see from Brown, it is something to build on. On the pitching front, it was not the cleanest outing for Grubbs, but there are quite a few teachable moments in his first collegiate start. Harrison got the win, striking out two batters in 1.2 IP, though some of his fastballs were really running high. Andre Duplantier looked good for two batters and then completely fell apart. He was trying out some different mechanics tonight, but it feels like he can only be used in spot situations at this point. Heston Tole did Heston Tole things in getting out of the jam he inherited from Duplantier. Fontenot looked fairly sharp tonight, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Finally, Tanner Witt made an appearance in the Top 9th and sat them down 1-2-3 via a fly out, ground out, and strikeout. The most noticeable thing was that Witt hit 93mph on one of his fastballs and was really going downhill with it and attacking the bottom of the zone. It was a very small sample size, but if Witt can give Texas 6-9 outs, that would be massive at this juncture and going forward, something to build on.

Texas BASKETBALL v. Texas Tech Postgame Thoughts (See ya never Texas Tech)

What. A. Response.

This game summed in a GIF...

Triple H Sport GIF by WWE

I predicted a close Longhorn win, but man...I would've never predicted this. Texas stomps Texas Tech by a score of 81-69 in Lubbock.

After the Longhorns got their asses kicked at the Phog, they walked into Lubbock like Texas Tech disrespected their mother on the playground.

Texas started this one with their hair on fire. The Horns....WERE....GUARDING. Texas was pressuring the ball all the way up the floor, provided phenomenal help side defense, and made the majority of possessions difficult for the Red Raiders. Shedrick, Disu, and Mitchell combined for 4 blocks in the first half. Energy and effort go a long way in the game of basketball and this is what it looks like when you have a collective buy in from everybody in the locker room. Texas looked like they were on a mission, and that mission was to beat the shit out of Texas Tech in front of their families.

Speaking of maniacal energy and effort, let's talk about Chendall Weaver. This guy is an athletic freak of nature, and plays with a level of grit and energy that feeds into the entire team. At one point in the first half, he went on a 5-0 run by himself just from hustle plays after posting back to back rebounds. Weaver finished the first half with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. More of that please.

This is what games look like when Texas is playing good defense, and the Abmas/Disu duo is firing on all cylinders. Disu and Abmas combined for 23 first half points on 10 made field goals, including three first half triples for Abmas. Oh, and it looks the Abmas shooting phenomenon has officially dissipated. If two guys are clicking and on the same page, Texas can beat anybody in the country. That all being said, I don't want to give these two TOO much love, as the supporting cast for the Longhorns was absolutely spectacular in the first half. The Kaden Shedrick, Brock Cunningham and Chendall Weaver trio combined for 25(!) first half points, 12(!) rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 blocks off the bench. If Texas could only get this kind of contribution from these guys every game. More of that too please.

The Longhorns held the Red Raiders to just 24.2% shooting, turned them over 5 times, and won the rebounding battle. This is the recipe to win games. Win the rebounding battle and the turnover margin you're going to come out on the winning side more often than not regardless of how well you're shooting.

It was a spectacular first half, and credit needs to go to the coaching staff (a long with the players of course) for having the Horns ready to play, a long with a phenomenal defensive game plan.

Kudos, Kudos, Kudos.

The second half summed up in a GIF...

Heart Attack Close Call GIF by reactionseditor

This half was completely overshadowed by the Brock Cunningham flagrant 2 (more on that later), but up until the 10:00 mark, it was pretty reminiscent of the first half. Awesome effort on both ends of the floor, big shots from Abmas, etc.

After an offensive rebound and kick out for a Max Abmas triple just underneath the 18:00 mark, the Horns at one point, went up by 29(!), and that was all she wrote. There was some sloppy play here and there, and at one point the Red Raiders cut the lead to what felt like a nerve-wracking 15 points but I thought that the Longhorns played it's best and most complete basketball game of the season at a time when it mattered most. Getting a win on the road with all eyes on you in terms of tournament implications is no small thing; and Texas handled it's business.

Now Brock....you can't get called for the equivalent of targeting in a basketball game. Be better. That play is a blemish on an otherwise fantastic win. At first glance I thought it was a great hustle play, but that was a clear flagrant two. Regardless of how much you love the fact that it felt like Texas was sticking it to Texas Tech on that play, it was silly. Hopefully a game or two suspension doesn't follow. For those of you that didn't see the play...

Back to the game.

Rodney Terry and this coaching staff clearly made some adjustments after the humiliating loss at Kansas to get the ball inside early and often in offensive possessions which will be the recipe for success moving forward. Letting the ball work inside out is the most efficient way to generate offense on the perimeter, and can only benefit guys like Abmas, Horton, Hunter, etc.

MVP for the Horns for me goes to the entire Longhorn bench, but specifically Chendall Weaver. I have a soft spot in my heart for guys that can come into a game off the bench, play with awesome energy, and make positive impacts in games just like this one. Shedrick, Weaver, and Cunningham were simply awesome. If they can replicate this performance, Texas will be in really good shape headed down the stretch.

Texas moves to 7-8 in conference play and have all but secured their tournament bid. The Horns will host Oklahoma State on Saturday at 1PM CT. The Longhorns have to keep winning at home, but you couldn't ask for a better performance to build off of headed back to your home court.

Texas v Texas Tech Box Score

AROUND THE WORLD:

Houston takes down Cincinnati behind 67-59 behind LJ Cryer's 22 points.

Kentucky survives at Mississippi State, 91-89.

BYU takes down Kansas at the Phog, 76-68.

Wood you have a one night stand with Taylor Swift (PIIHB included)?

Ok bro so they're seem to be a lot of haters who don't seem to like Taylor Swift for some reason butt this is about a more basic question. The age-old "wood you do her" inquiry that we all know and love. I am genuinely curious my hosses. I know some of you have super high standards and I put myself in that category too. I work on my bench and 40 time every day for a damn reason. Anywho, I think TS meets those standards butt maybe I am wrong bro.
