It turns out testing matters after all

HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth College is reinstating its standardized testing requirement for undergraduate applicants, reversing a change made at the start of the pandemic nearly four years ago.

Dartmouth is the first Ivy League school to announce it is moving away from "test-optional" admissions. The new policy will start with prospective students for the Class of 2029.

"For Dartmouth, the evidence supporting our reactivation of a required testing policy is clear," the school based in Hanover, New Hampshire said in a statement. "Our bottom line is simple: we believe a standardized testing requirement will improve -- not detract from -- our ability to bring the most promising and diverse students to our campus."

SAT and ACT scores are a "key method" to help determine which students will succeed at Dartmouth, according to a study commissioned by school president Sian Beilock.

Dartmouth said researchers found that test scores help the school identify high achievers "from less-resourced backgrounds." They also learned that the test-optional policy apparently discouraged some low-income students from submitting scores in their applications, even when those scores would have helped strengthen their candidacy.

Netflix Breaking Point and Break Point

I know not many here are tennis fans but I am and wanted to send out a PSA to dive into Break Point as it has 2 seasons recapping some of the men's and women's players on tour for the 2021 (Season 1) and 2022 professional seasons. Really good watch for those interested. Now I am watching Breaking Point that goes back to Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish and them growing up together literally inside of the Roddick household. I was always very hard on Roddick as I felt like he was an underachiever but I have a newfound respect for him and his family for what they did for Fish and how those two pushed each other to be as great as they were. Anyway, thought I would put out a PSA for those interested.

Best Super Bowl Commercial you have never seen

Little backstory, this is from a contest Doritos ran but was not picked. They told David Vobora it was too heart wrenching. Sad since it's 100% spot on.

My friend, DV, was Mr Irrelevant in 2008. Went on to start for both the St Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks. In fact he is the 1st Mr Irrelevant in the NFL to start a game his rookie year. He's a friend of our own Nate Boyer

Teacher tries to pay student

Nope!

A high flying teacher at a Manhattan high school has refused to explain what she was doing in a locked staff bathroom stall with a 17-year-old pupil, or why she later handed him a wad of cash in a stairwell.

Shoshana Leffler, 37, remains licensed to teach after resigning from the High School for Health Careers and Sciences last year rather than face questions over the seven-minute tryst that was partially caught on surveillance video.

But investigators have concluded the Princeton University graduate 'engaged in an inappropriate relationship' with the boy who should have been in class at the time.

'What occurred in the bathroom can only be speculated about since Leffler resigned from the DOE without providing an explanation,' said Anastasia Coleman, the special commissioner of investigation for city schools.

Leffler and her twin brother Abba were child prodigies at the prestigious Bronx High School of Science.

...

The pair disappeared inside a staff bathroom with a lockable door but were interrupted after seven minutes when another staff member tried the door and found it locked from the inside.

The pair emerged separately moments later but were filmed together again in the stairwell the following day where Leffler was recorded 'handing (him) what appeared to be money, him pocketing this money, and them leaving the stairwell together'.

An investigation began but no record of contact between the teacher and the student was found on their phones, and the teen's mother refused to allow him to be interviewed..

Severe Wreck Question (I'm in the ER now)

I'm posting from the ER, but know OB is a wealth knowledge, so I wanted to hop on this.

I got rear-ended tonight by a lady doing 70+, while I was at a complete stop. The force propelled me into the car in front of me, which appears to have totaled that car too. I'm not sure if the seat belt failed or the airbag failed, but my head hit the steering wheel, & the dash came in and got my legs. No internal injuries, but have a ton of head, neck, back, arm, and leg pain. I was actually looking down at the time, because I was calling 911 to report an apparent suicide attempt a mile back. So, the whiplash really got me bad. And, one of my 5 y/o twins is also in the ER with a non-life threatening head injury.

OK, so the questions.....

* From those that have been through this or handle this on the legal or insurance side, what are things I need to do & watch out for. I have Amica. She was at-fault, was cited, and has insurance (which the police collected). I just want to make sure I don't make any mistakes that will screw me on the wreck claim or with hospital reimbursement.

* How does the hospital aspect work? Do I just file through insurance, then get reimbursed somehow?

* My car was a 2015 Lexus RX45Oh with under 13,000 miles. Because I've worked from home since buying it, I don't drive much. I know there's a 0.0% chance another such car exists. So how does that work? I have every expectation that the lady's insurance will want to give me some absurdly low payout. Anything I can do to get max value?

* I'm pretty fearful I'm going to have neck issues. Leaning over to talk to 911 on speaker phone really whiplashed me back. I literally hit the seat so hard, it broke the seat & turned it into abrecliner. So how does that aspect work? I'm not the predator/opportunist type. But, I want to make sure if there are serious issues that require physical therapy or result in long-term pain, that I'm covered.

* Anything I'm forgetting? I'm on Valium, so I have no idea how coherent I'm coming across.

Thanks guys! I really & truly appreciate the help and advice! Hook 'Em!

TEMU???

I know there was a TEMU = BAD thread last night - and of course it got me worried (I like shopping there bc cheap and not total crap like other All-China product sites) - and it was noted that high chance of credit card information being stolen and data and all this...so here are my questions for the experts

1. What if I only use the TEMU website and not download the App? I keep getting reminders and incentives to download the app but I don't want to do that...and what kind of incentive can they really give me when I'm getting their child slave labor-made crap at pennies on the dollar already

2. When people say "they're collecting my data" - what does that really mean? I mean, doesn't every site enable cookies and every bank and pretty much everything I do online have some sort of tracking device or algorithm that shows my spending habits, my viewing habits, my addiction to OB threads and Horns information?

3. When my data is compromised - yes, yes, I don't want someone taking my identity - heard that's a mess - but other than that - should I really care or be concerned that someone knows information about me - where I live, how old I am, how fast I can type, whether I can still throw footballs over mountains or that I tend to drink a bit too much vino

4. Doesn't every government entity in the USA have all that stuff on me already?

WR Boobie Feaster loves what he's seen from Texas

Boobie Feaster is still in his freshman season of high school, but that hasn’t kept college coaches from identifying the elite wide receiver talent. Feaster, out of DeSoto, already holds close to 40 scholarship offers from top programs all over the country. One of those scholarships is from the Texas Longhorns, and in January Feaster made his way to Austin for a UT junior day.

“It was pretty good. I always love Texas,” Feaster said. “They always show me love. Every time I come down there, coach (Chris) Jackson, coach (Steve Sarkisian), they always show me love.”

As a member of the 2027 class, Feaster is still a long way from deciding on a college. When he does get to that point, Texas is a school that will likely receive strong consideration. The message from the UT staff is that Feaster will be developed beyond just being a football player should he wind up choosing the Longhorns.

“They just tell me to pick the best school for me. But a promise they told me, when I come to Texas, I’m going to be a man. They’re going to show me how to be a man not only on the football field but off the field, how to carry myself and things like that,” Feaster said.

The 6 -0, 168-pound Feaster has picked up offers from programs like Texas, Cal, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC, to name but a few. Though it’s still very early, Feaster plans to trim his list in the coming months to eliminate some of the recruiting madness.

“I’m going to bring out a top 15 right before my sophomore year,” Feaster said.

As he goes through his long list of options, Feaster said a few different elements will factor into his decision on which schools remain in the hunt. The football part of things will play a big part, obviously, but Feaster is also looking for a program that will develop him beyond just the football field.

“(Wide receiver development) and schemes, and also how they’re going to build me, not just on the field but in the classroom,” Feaster said.

Sarkisian’s history of producing elite wide receivers is not lost on Feaster. He’s aware of what the Texas head coach has done at previous stops, both in college and in the NFL, and it’s a big reason why the Longhorns are in the mix for the elite pass-catcher.

“I appreciate coach Sark. He’s a great coach. He knows a lot about receivers,” Feaster said. “He coached guys like Julio Jones and people like that. That means a lot to me.”

Following the current dead period, Feaster plans to take spring visits to LSU, Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas. Feaster turned in an impressive freshman campaign for a powerhouse DeSoto program, catching 32 passes for 634 yards (19.8 ypc) and 9 touchdowns. Feaster is young and immensely talented, but he also knows there’s still plenty of room for improvement in this game.

“My thing is that I want to work on everything,” Feaster said. “But I feel like the thing I did well this year is understanding coverages, understanding my schemes, understanding when to sit down in certain zones, things like that.”

Is Customer Service a thing of the Past?

Is customer service a thing of the past or not

Just wanted to take a survey to see what OB says about customer service or lack of these days.

What are the attitudes of companies these days, to want to help the paying customers ?
Do you even care as long as the product is good.

I‘m amazed at how bad things have gotten with customer service these days, service has become a thing of the past it seems and when you have a company that gets it you want to really stay with that company
but, the audacity of some business owners that don’t give two cents in helping with a problem is a growing concern.

I mean why even be in business if you don’t care if you lose customers or ignore their request for help?
Eventually Karma will catch up to those people as they get fat and lazy and people leave for the competition, but for now they have that false hope that they don’t need some customers because their thoughts don’t align with yours.

I have a family restaurant and my attitude is to help everyone, I don’t care what their opinions are because I don’t put their opinions in the cash register, but only their cash. Plain and simple if you think everyone is going to think like you then your in for a rude awakening.
What say the customers?
