In his scholarship players by class spreadsheet Ketchum was advised that he had forgotten Bert Auburn, and I replied to that poster that he was sort of important to our team. Ketch replied to me that he didn't forget Auburn, but that he wasn't on scholarship, so he really shouldn't be on that sheet.

My question....Why is a guy who in 2 years has made 50 field goals, 82% of those attempted (72% from 40 plus yards) and is still perfect on extra points NOT on scholarship? I am clearly missing something.

There must be a good reason but I don't know what it is.

A week ago we lost to a team whose offense could do no wrong. Penix didn’t miss. He stepped up, faded back, scrambled and threw lasers in to tight coverage. It was the equivalent of a Jordan knocking down six 3’s in game 1 vs Portland. No matter where Penix threw it, it was on target and caught even in really good coverage.

Tonight, we can give Michigan credit as they deserve but Penix had an off game. He looked more like a 1st or 2nd year player than the guy who looked jaded by the Heisman voting last week.

I’ve watched our game several times. I went from being mad at the secondary to appreciating the darts being thrown last week. Everything went their way.

We didn’t lose because we didn’t run the ball. Our backs fumbled twice. We didn’t lose because of a terrible game plan. We false started and held.

We lost because Penix couldn’t make a mistake and they simply made one more play on one night when we couldn’t stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

Could we have hung with Michigan? I dunno. That was a fully matured squad that beat down UW tonight. I thought we matched up well with everyone but UW however this was no accident tonight. UW and Michigan are a long way apart. And the trajectory of the two programs, UW and Texas is distinctly different. UW loses A LOT and Texas is still stacking bricks.

The future is very bright. Year 3 with a lot of youth and at worst it was something to grow on. One play away from playing for it all. I think we have lots of fun ahead under Sark.

Edit: the more I think about this, the more important elite QB is going to become in the new format. You’ll have to win 3-4 more games against the toughest competition to win it all. Those margins will become smaller, more like the NFL.

With the start of the new year, there are some changes that we'll be making at Orangebloods on a few fronts. One of those fronts will be on the basketball side of things, as today marks the last day on the Orangebloods staff for Keenan Womack after 2+ years.

I'd love for everyone reading this thread to help me wish Keenan nothing but future success and express appreciation for everything that he has given us in his hoops coverage since the summer of 2021.

In addition to taking a totally different approach to coverage than we've previously had on the hoops front, Keenan is just an awesome dude that has always been easy and enjoyable to work with.

While I work on a long-term plan for basketball coverage in the coming weeks (and through the end of the season), it'll be all hands on deck from a coverage standpoint for the immediate future.

We'll have plenty of time to discuss what happens next on another day. For now, I'd love it is this thread could serve as a warm send-off for Keenan.

Can't believe it's been that long. Some of you probably think...yeah been way too long with your puns.

It's been a fun ride, best $10/month I spend. I swear I laugh out loud at least once a day, usually a lot more. I tip my cap to Ketch for starting this great forum, it is a very unique community of Longhorn fans and although disfunctional at times, when times are tough for those on the board, we come together and help. It's amazing to see!

During the year, Texas won a bunch of games, but didn't look all that great in doing so. We had three really good games, against Alabama, Oklahoma State, and Tech. These were, all three, teams that did not pass the ball on an elite level, and Texas handled all of them.

But for the rest of the season, we had a maddening (and consistent) inability to put teams away, because of two issues. We could not get a decent pass rush, especially rushing four, and our DBs could not cover well. In addition, we had weak play on the OL, with way too many penalties, especially pre-snap.

We also had inconsistent play at QB. Some of it early was Quinn still feeling his way, and some late was he was recovering from injury. But Quinn also has a maddening ability to play sloppy for a few drives, especially early. He also plays really well late in the game, once he's got a rhythm.

All of that was on display against UW. Washington has a really good quarterback and good receivers, and if you give Penix time, he will carve you up. That's exactly what he did. And the OL didn't play well, especially early, and Quinn was throwing lazy sidearm passes that were easy to knock down. Throw in two fumbles, and that was it.

Lots of folks on here complaining about the game plans on both sides of the ball. Why didn't Sark run more? Why didn't we cover better? PK gotta go. Etc etc. Reality: we played to the ability of our players. When the best players on your defense are the two tackles? That's not necessarily a good thing. Ironically, we would have matched up better against Michigan, because we defend the run far better than UW. But with the personnel we have? This was the outcome you'd expect.

Hopefully help is on the way for next year. We should be better in the secondary, and hopefully our pass rush will improve. Quinn will have another year of practice and experience, as will Arch.

But for 2023? Instead of being frustrated watching Michigan handle the team that beat us, I get that we had personnel weaknesses, and yet we still wound up winning the conference, making the playoff, and finishing in the top 5. If you had asked me before the season st...YES I WILL TAKE THAT.

We've probably all done some things that in retrospect now seem more than merely risky. Words like "reckless" and "crazy" come to mind. And we probably all have stories about friends or family who have gotten themselves into serious trouble with risky or irresponsible behavior. While we can learn valuable lessons from such experiences, if we let our learning turn into fear, we may become too cautious.

Avoiding risks at all costs will make us stagnant. Growth involves risk, but living is more than just not dying. Our best lives are lived when we dare to be greater than we are. Calling something a "risk" means we are unsure of the outcome, but not all risk-taking is as self-destructive as we have allowed it to be in our past. Abandoning old ways, and turning away from our self-medicating drugs of choice, were risks at the time. The devil we knew was still better than the devil we didn't know, but our relationship with our Higher Power carried us. Now we know that some risks are essential and life-saving.

For this day, and forever more, let me learn the difference between risk avoidance and risk management. God, give me the guidance I need to take a chance on growth, so I can be the person You need me to be, for You and for those I love.

With the expansion of the playoff and the general upgrade in schedules the Big 10 and SEC will play, it’s going to be awfully challenging to go unbeaten all the way going forward.

It will take a 16-0 or 17-0 season next year.

Kevin McCarthy was on CNBC this morning. Said he supports Trump, especially his policies but does not like the 'revenge' tour. He said Trump needs to look forward, not back.

Then switched to Fox News and showed a Trump poll: 37% support Trump; 37% are persuadable; and 24% are never Trump.

So, why isn't Trump looking forward and turning those in the persuadable camp to the Trump camp?

Let alone appealing to the non-Republican voters?
