Interesting Find on 2025 NFL Mock Draft…

Walter Football 2025 NFL Mock Draft. 1 spot behind Quinn. There is obviously a long time between now and that draft, but I found it noteworthy that this kid is possibly this good. Sets up well next season with Burke, Moore, CS & more. This DE group could be a real problem for opposing offenses next season. 🤘🏼

11. NFL Team Logo for Commanders Washington Commanders: Ethan Burke, DE, Texas

2024 NFL Mock Draft (as of 12/22): Joe Alt, OT

The Commanders no longer have either Montez Sweat and Chase Young. Here’s a replacement for one of them.

Burke has played well in 2023, recording 35 tackles, one forced fumble and 5.5 sacks so far. He ate up the Alabama offensive line in Week 2. The 6-foot-6, 257-pounder has upside to grow as he gains experience.

Instant WBB Analysis: It's hard to win when you give up 90+ points

Cliffs Notes: Despite a late Texas fourth quarter surge, Unranked Oklahoma came into the Moody Center and knocked off the No.10 Longhorns 91-87 on Wednesday night.

The Participants: No.11 Texas (18-3, 5-3 Big 12) and NR Oklahoma (12-6, 6-1 Big 12)

Pre-Game NET Rankings: Texas (No.3) and Oklahoma (No. 51)
Pre-Game RPI Rankings: Texas (No.17) and Oklahoma (No. 65)

Game MVP: Freshman Madison Booker scored 29 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out three assists.

Unsung Hero: Senior Shay Holle might have had the best game of her career in scoring 22 points on 10 of 12 shooting, including the two of the three three-point shots the Longhorns made all night.

Key moment: After Madison Booker cut the lead to 85-84 in the final minute of the game, OU's Lexy Keys knocked down a three-pointer to extend the lead to 88-84 with 40 seconds to go in the game and the Longhorns never got that close again.

Three-point shooting woes: The Longhorns are not a good three-point shooting team and it cost them against the Sooners, as Oklahoma knocked down 10 three-point shots, while the Longhorns only made three.

OU lands a second quarter haymaker: The Longhorns were kind of in cruise control in the first quarter in taking a 23-17 lead, but OU came out on a heater in the second quarter, going on a 19-6 run in the first 5:02 of the quarter, which gave the Sooners a 36-29 lead. OU ended up going into halftime with a 45-39 lead.

Thing You Need to Know: How much are the Longhorns missing Rori Harmon? Texas only had 10 assists on 31 made shots tonight, while Oklahoma had 21 assists on 34 made field goals.

ESPN Bracketology: The Longhorns have moved from the 4-seed to the 3 seed in the last update.

Three things I'm hearing about the Bo Davis move...

A few things I've been told in the last hour.

1. It does sound like LSU offered Bo Davis a raise from the money that Texas was paying him and that the Longhorns chose not to match. That's kind of surprising to me because I would have assumed that the Longhorns might be giving raises out to the staff after this season, anyways, but it's apparently not what happened.

2. This is being viewed behind the scenes as an opportunity to find someone who is simply a better recruiter. That's not to say that Davis was a poor recruiter, but it seems like there is a thirst to have someone that is better.

3. Two sources I communicated with seem very confident that the Longhorns will simply replace a bad-ass with another bad-ass, but one with at least slightly better recruiting chops.

I'll pass along more when I have it.

OT: Some Jerk at HEB Ruined My Food Shelter's Retirement Party

I have managed a food shelter for 30 years. We feed homeless daily, and have even expanded to giving them living spaces and work opportunities. As such, the vast majority of my "staff" is volunteer. Except for Victor. Victor has been my one employee working the shelter for over 20 years. He has a real heart for the homeless, and is well known and loved in the community by all. He's the most selfless person I've ever met. And unfortunately for health reasons Victor is being forced to "retire". Oh, he'll still be around brightening everyone's day from time to time for sure!

Anyway, we have a ton of connections with local grocery stores who often donate unused food to our shelter. John is the managing partner for HEB in the area, and me and John go way back. So do John and Victor. At any rate, John learned of Victor's retirement and his love of good steak and wanted to help him out. He told me he had about $300 of meat that was going to be thrown out. Now, normally this isn't something they can give us nor can we accept, but John wanted to donate it to a BBQ party for Victor we were going to have that night so we all accepted.

It turned into a busy day so I had to send one of our volunteers, Marcos, to get the meat from HEB. Marcos doesn't speak much English, but I told John he was coming. John made a joke about throwing in some beer for the party on his dime also, but said to send him on the way.

Marcos got back from HEB and was teary eyed and very down. He told me the whole story. He had gone to the butcher who had the meat ready to go for him, including a case of beer (John really is a good guy). He had put it into a basket to carry to his car, and while he was leaving some big guy stepped in front of him and started to talk in a very loud, harsh voice. Marcos is a small dude, probably 140 pounds or so. He said the guy asked if he had paid for the food, and Marcos said something like "Gratis, is free gift" to him. The guy got more agitated and started to get closer, and began to poke Marcos in the chest while demanding to know if Marcos had paid for the food. Marcos was a bit panicked and didn't know what to do.

He said the guy made a few dollar signs and then grabbed the basket out of his hands and stormed past him. Marcos didn't know what to do, as the guy turned around and yelled "Get out of here before I call the cops" and made a threatening gesture towards him. Marcos decided that leaving was the best course of action.

Victor ended up not getting his BBQ party, but he's a great guy and was plenty happy with the pizza ordered. Still, some people can be such jerks.

Alabama Death Penalty, White Rhinos, and Leap Year Parties

I received the above titled email today from a daily news source that delivers sports news if it is BIG. My immediate reaction: Saban left just in time; I had no idea The tide was under NCAA investigation (must have been 'double secret probation'); and i was amazed the NCAA had the huevos to come down that hard on a Blue Blood.

Then I realized it had to do with an inmate on death row...never mind.....

One of the more outrageous and bizarre things I've ever seen. If you need any clarity on what the CCP is and what it represents to the world, sit down, hit play and get ready to gnash your teeth.

Australian Open

The Final is set on the women's side. 21 year old Chinese player Qinwen Zheng will face the Belarusian defending Aussie Champion Aryna Sabalenka. The two have met only once, last summer in New York where Aryna won 6-1, 6-4. Sabalenka defeated American Coco Gauff early this morning (Thursday) in a tight battle, those two have an emerging rivalry that likely has many chapters to come. Gauff beat Aryna in the US Open Final, so a bit of payback for Aryna this morning in the Aussie Open Semi Final as she is now one win away from successfully defending her 2023 Aussie Open Championship and claiming her second Grand Slam singles championship.

On the men's side the Semis will be played tomorrow, which begins tonight in the US Time zones. In one Semi the 3 seed Russian Medvedev faces the 6 seed German Zverev at 2:30AM CST. Coming out of the other bracket will be either the GOAT Novak Djokovic or Italian Jannik Sinner. Those guys begin play tonight at 9:30PM CST. Novak is in pursuit of his 25th Grand Slam singles championship (he is currently the all time leader with 24). The 22 year old Sinnner is looking to reach his first grand slam final. He has his hands full against Novak who looks to be in top form and has won 33 straight matches in Melbourne. Novak has won 4 of the last 5 championships and the one he didn't win was because he was banned for not getting the Covid vaccine. Novak has won 10 Australian Open Championships.

Great match between Gauff and Sabalenka last night (early morning hours Texas time). I'm a big fan of both of these players and it's exciting to watch them from tournament to tournament now. Gauff is very stoic and keeps her emotions in check while Sabalenka wears her ups and downs on her shoulder. Conversely, Gauff's coach always looks like he's on the verge of a panic attack while Sabalenka's coach remains calm and collected.

Wednesday nugget

Full disclosure, folks. This update is more like half a nugget. However, I wanted to give you guys something instead of nothing.

I was told that Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian is moving closer towards hiring a new defensive line coach. One person told me the search/interviews could be done by the end of this week.

We know Rod Wright was a candidate to join the Longhorns but he decided to remain with the Houston Texans.

Of course, that leads to the obvious question.

Who is the guy?

Sarkisian is like the Godfather right now after informing Fredo to never take sides against the family. Those close to the situation are keeping that to themselves at this moment.

However, I will keep digging.

In the meantime, is anyone willing to start my car tomorrow morning?

Another I got laid off thread, HSE related

Was working for a small synthetic sling manufacturing company in Stafford TX where delivering an entire safety program was needed. The goal was accomplished then a private equity firm bought us from our corporate conglomeration and decided the position was no longer needed.
So here I am looking for work in the safety field, if anyone here knows of, or has any openings, I would appreciate a chance to apply. 17 years experience in safety with 10 in the O&G field and 7 in a manufacturing facility.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. My other gig (profile pic related) has been decimated by the #metoo movement

DL Coach: Now what?

In light of @Ketchum post about Rod Wright looking like a No Go, Imam wondering where Texas might look at this stage in the coaching carousel. I would start again with Roach but assuming he is locked in at Bama Who you got?

I would kick the tires on Kelvin Bell at Iowa, Mike Eliston, Tim Cross at UNC. Do you take another look at Brick Haley? I have no idea what is even practical at this stage? What says OB?

Rivals100 TE Kiotti Armstrong enjoys first visit to Texas, time with the UT staff

IMG_7748.jpg

Tight end Kiotti Armstrong is one of the top players in the country as a Rivals100 member, but he’s been taking the recruiting process pretty slowly. Last weekend, the Jasper product made his way to Austin to get his first in-person look at the Longhorns. Armstrong said it was a good visit overall.

“I liked the environment, how the coaches interact with the players and how they’re just very honest with you,” he said.

While on campus, Armstrong got to sit down with Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks and head coach Steve Sarkisian. Both told him he’d be a good fit in the UT offense due to Armstrong’s size and versatility.

“It was how I fit the scheme, how I can play off the ball and on the ball, and out wide,” Armstrong said of his talks. “I had a sit down with coach Sarkisian. It was good.”

The 6-5, 246-pound Armstrong also hung out with former Jasper teammate Tyanthony Smith, who committed to Texas in December and enrolled at UT earlier this month. Smith is already working to get Armstrong to join him in Austin.

“He said ‘This is where you need to be.’ Coming from Jasper, he was recruiting me heavily,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong said he doesn’t have a list of favorites right now. He’s continuing to explore all options but is mindful of how the programs recruiting him use the tight end. Texas impressed him in that area with the offense’s usage of Ja’Tavion Sanders last year.

“I just liked the environment and the people. I just like Austin, really,” Armstrong said of Texas. “I don’t really have a ranking right now to be honest. I’m just trying to see everything right now, having fun.”

Armstrong will visit Miami this weekend. Ranked as a four-star prospect, he checks in at No. 64 on the Rivals100.
