33 years ago: “It’s the last shootout”

Hard to believe it’s been a freaking third of a century since the last time we played as conference rivals. Listening to the announcers open by eulogizing the rivalry reminds me of the 2011 aggy game.

I for one am glad this is back on again, even though it will probably never approach the heights of the old SWC.

USC beginning to eat their own

From: USC mod on a board

Good. Bon Appétit, mofo 🍴

Former USC running back LenDale White is not happy with Lincoln Riley. The two-time national champion made that clear on X during and after USC's 26-21 defeat to Washington Saturday night.

White fired off 18 tweets, which mostly criticized Riley and quarterback Miller Moss.

"[We] can't even get in the Roscoe's chicken and waffles bowl," White tweeted after USC dropped to 4-5 on the year. White also condemned Riley for earning such a high salary and not winning enough games, his play calling and Moss for his interceptions. Riley is 23-13 in three seasons at USC and 6-10 in his last 16 games. Moss threw three picks in the Washington defeat.

White knows a thing or two about winning football games. The Trojans only lost two games in his three-year career winning national titles in 2003 and 2004. White rushed for 3,159 yards, and he scored a Trojan record 57 touchdowns.

MORE OF THE SAME?

After USC's latest defeat, Riley insisted that his team is close winning at an "unbelievable" level.

"If you go change five or six plays this season and then everyone will be like 'oh my god, they're freakin' unbelievable.' And the other 99.9 percent of the plays that we've played will all be exactly the same," Riley said. "You still gotta win at the end of the day and it's about winning and trust me, I get that as good as anybody. But I also have to pay attention to the other 99.9 percent too. I can't ignore all of that as well. Within that I see massive progress that will pay dividends for this program and will pay dividends soon."White, like the rest of the fan base, is wondering when that "massive progress" will translate to consistent wins.

"Naw [for real] all bs aside Lincoln if u win a nati next year I'm so sorry bro!!!!! lol but right now u looking like Ryan leaf and we need Peyton [Manning] lol," White tweeted.

Please help this girl and her Mom - cancer

Haley Cates is fighting cancer. I met Haley’s mom, Kimberly, when she was tending bar at Ski Shores on Lake Austin. I bet she’s served many Orangebloods. Kimberly and Haley now live in Galveston where they both work at a restaurant/bar on the Strand and co-own Island TieDye. Haley is a Special Olympian and a great athlete. Kimberly has devoted her life to Haley. They are going through a tough time. I’m not sure what their health insurance situation is but Kimberly doesn’t get paid if she doesn’t work and it’s hard for her to work and take care of Haley.

the Growler Bar & Kitchen in Pflugerville is having a fundraiser for Haley this Sunday from 5 to 7. Haley and Kimberly will be there. But if you can’t attend and you want to help out here is a link to her GoFundMe https://gofund.me/24c67178. Please help if you can.

This one will be close to start, but the Arkansas secondary is just so bad that the floodgates will open in the passing game eventually.
Texas 42 - Arkansas 24

I struggle to figure out how this game will play out. I think it could play out one of two ways. Either Quinn Ewers gets time to look to those midrange passes that he loves so much and Texas runs away with this, or Arkansas gets pressure on Ewers and he has to resort to those checkdowns that he loves so much and Arkansas is able to cover the spread but still lose.

I worry about Arkansas being able to exploit the right side of the line with blitzes. It's the only way Arkansas can slow Texas down. Lord knows their DB's can't hang with the Texas WR's.

I'm going to give the o-line the benefit of the doubt because if Arkansas is able to get a lot of pressure then it does not bode well for Texas against A&M.

Texas 45 - Arkansas 22

Geoff Ketchum (8-1)

At the end of the day, I just can't see how Arkansas can match Texas point for point. It's going to be close for a while, but separation will occur in the second half.

Texas 31 - Arkansas 19

I spent the entire 2021 preseason trashing Arkansas and downplaying the previous rivalry. As someone who had never experienced the Texas-Arkansas years, I thought it seemed like people were holding onto the past. Arkansas was coming off a 3-7 season in 2020, and I was convinced Texas would easily win. My observation was about as wrong as two left feet.

Arkansas QB Taylen Green is back and is a difference-maker in the pass-and-run game. In addition, Arkansas running back Ja'Quinden Jackson is healthy. The good news, for Texas, is Arkansas' secondary is banged up and cannot hang with these Longhorn receivers. I expect Texas to have multiple explosive plays.

However, I refuse to overlook Arkansas again.

Texas 31 - Arkansas 24

On paper, this is a game Texas should win pretty easily against an overmatched opponent. But this is a rivalry game, on the road, that I think will play closer than the match-ups indicate it should.

Texas wins and Quinn Ewers puts up big numbers but it’s a game that’s close in the second half.

Edit - How are you navigating this dynamic time in our country - Title Was: Why is MAGA so angry?

Good morning Longhorn Nation! I don’t often post here, but am asking for some help in understanding why MAGA supporters are so angry. I had the opportunity to speak with several MAGA supporters yesterday and it was a really productive conversation. They seemed to be good people and were very helpful. However, one thing I noticed is that they seemed to be on edge too, but in a different manner than the left. MAGA seem hungry for a fight and are just waiting for someone to look at them wrong, whereas the Left seems to be on edge due to fear. Can someone please explain what MAGA is so mad about? Any real insight would be appreciated as I’m trying to understand the new landscape in which we all reside.

BEAT ARKANSAS!!!

Beating Texas- it just means more

We will be facing a highly motivated Hogs team, but that won’t change the outcome. Texas will win convincingly because we are the better team. The SEC is not thrilled with Texas atop the conference standings ( any more than the B1G schools like seeing Oregon at #1 their first season), and you can bet they will ALL be pulling for us to lose one along the way, or especially if we make the championship game. We get to earn respect the old fashioned way—winning on the field.
