Cheryl Miller, the most celebrated player in women’s basketball history at the time, was playing in her final collegiate game against undefeated and seemingly unbeatable Texas.

The game was a Texas blowout. We’ll see what happens today.

As an aside, if you had told me after that championship win that 38 years later we’d have only 2 more final four appearances and no championships, I’d have said you were crazy. We were ranked #1 throughout most of the mid-80s. Gotta like what Schaefer is building though.

With the Final Fours going on, and the great ones separating themselves from the merely successful, we're reminded of what, to a man, all of the legends declare separates the two: Complacency. In yesterday's TG, we explored the holy importance of orientation and routine. Now, as many of us round third base, and finish knitting the last section of our safety net, or apply the last coat of polish to our trophies, let's pause to consider if sports really are a metaphor for life.

Logic suggests that many of us have worked our entire adult lives to fulfill our dream---to make sure that each day is, well, as comfortable as the one before it. But as we steadfastly practice that comfortable routine, has our spiritual "growth" been lulled to sleep by what famed pastor A. W. Tozer labeled as its "evil foe": Complacency. Perhaps by living in our culture, with its emphasis on the initial act of "accepting" Christ ( a term which is, incidentally, not in the Bible) we've unknowingly convinced ourselves that we need no longer actively and passionately pursue Him.

Today, let's challenge ourselves. Let's objectively consider the possibility that the spiritual "routine" we've tried so hard to implement may actually be what stands between a heart that is merely satisfied, as opposed to one that is constantly expanding. The expanding heart will enable our simple conversations with Him to multiply themselves in an ever-widening circle of goodwill to those around us, whereas the heart that gets too comfortable ensnares us in the lazy logic that being spiritually "fit" somehow qualifies as spiritual "growth."

For those interested..... Saturday morning there is a car show in Highland Park Village. 7-9 (April 6th)

All are invited.

I'll be there with a good crew of car-like-minded people. Its a great place to spend time checking out some pretty cool and special vehicles. (Also great if you have a kid that is into cars)

Certainly all the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches...but old Defenders, classis and exotics will be there too (Maclaren P1 and Senna, Pagani, Singer.......)

Anyway, I'm happy to meet any of you -so hit me up if you plan to be there and I'll look for you. The Starbucks has closed - but Byrd Bakery has better coffee anyway and they are open by 8:00.

Evaluation: Stewart will show flashes of current Texas running back Jaydon Blue, but perhaps isn't as totally well-rounded as the former Klein Cain star. What they both have in common is that they get going north/south like a jackrabbit and put a lot of pressure on defenses once they get to the second level. The 5-11, 180-pound Stewart relies on his speed almost exclusively at the high school level as he'll get outside the hashmarks and along the boundary as soon as he can on almost any run. There's not a lot of wasted motion in Stewart's running style, as he's mostly a one-cut and go guy, without much dancing. When he gets to college, he'll need to fine-tune his all-around game and he'll likely find that he has to do more work between the hashmarks because not every run at the next level is one he can automatically take to the outside or that every run to the outside is a race that he can win.

Why it matters: Stewart is one of the top prospects at his position in the state and a player that the Longhorns have significantly coveted. In a dream world, you'd love to pair Stewart with Cali star Jordan Davison as a bit of a thunder and lightning combo.



Expectations: I'm not sure that Stewart is a day one impact player, but as some of the running backs ahead of him start to depart, he'll slot right in and become a player that the Longhorns can lean on in a variety of ways.

Block Party Time! Horns are back in action for a Saturday afternoon clash against BYU Cougars, in which both teams will be looking for a much needed series win, but for very different reasons. For the Horns, they need a series win to keep pace at the top of the Big 12 standings, while BYU needs a series win to try and move up a little bit at the bottom of the Big 12 standings.

After the first two performances, BYU has to feel very confident that they can come away with something, while the Horns turn to Max Grubbs who has been outstanding in his prior starts.

Despite this being a Saturday game, the motto remains in effect, ALWAYS win the series finale!
