Now let's talk about what was most important Tuesday

The first playoff poll came out yesterday. Oregon is #1 of course. But Ohio State jumped Georgia at #2. The rest of the poll is about the same as the others.

Our beloved longhorns are #5. But how about SMU at #13? Army at 18th? And my Commodores are 24th. I need for them to win out we need as many wins over ranked teams as possible. Who'd have ever thought that a win over Vanderbilt would mean something?

No. 1 Texas has had several true freshmen make an immediate impact through the first four weeks of the 2024 college football season.

Former five-star Ryan Wingo arrived on campus to a talented a deep wide receiver room that includes Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, Johntay Cook, DeAndre Moore and Silas Bolden among others. His path to playing time as a true freshman appeared slim, but Wingo showcased an impressive offseason and it has translated into the regular season thus far.

Through four games, Wingo has hauled in nine receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. He's averaging an impressive 26.6 yards per reception and also recorded one carry for 55 yards against Michigan.

Another former five-star true freshman is stepping up for the Longhorns as well. On the defensive side of the ball, edge Colin Simmons has made an immediate impact. He has 11 total tackles (7 total) and two sacks through Week 4.

PFF has ranked Wingo and Simmons as the two highest graded true freshman in the country after Week 4, with 88.1 and 84.2 grades respectively.

Steve Sarkisian's last few recruiting classes have Texas set up for success for the foreseeable future and Wingo and Simmons figure to be key pieces of the roster.

Random thoughts week 11

our boys are doing good now and going into November college football is the best it's been for a long time. And not just Texas but everywhere.

I'm happy to see SMU at 13th and it seems like their fans are finally supporting their team. And doing it the right way. And now they're in the ACC. I hope they kick Miami's ass and if they do they're in the playoffs.

Same goes for BYU. And Army as well. If the black knights beat Notre Dame they could be the at large team in the playoffs.

Parity can be a good thing.
