WBB: #12 Texas @ #13 Baylor - Longhorns win, 67-55!

The Longhorns (19-3, 6-3) have a tough 2-game stretch starting today in Wacko against the Bears (16-3, 5-3) followed by a visit from #2 (for now) K-State on Sunday. Baylor beat Texas in Austin, 85-79, December 30th to open Big12 play and just the 2nd game without Rori. The Bears came out swinging and landed the first punch, outscoring the Longhorns 23-15 in the 1st quarter. Texas was able to keep pace 64-62 over the rest of the game but it wasn't enough to avoid their 1st loss of the season. The Bears went on to climb all the way up to #4 in the rankings before 3 losses in their last 5 games to Kansas, Iowa State and then #4 K-State dropped them to where they are now.

The Bears have a balanced scoring attack with 4 players averaging 10+ ppg led by grad forward Dre-Una Edwards (12.6) with 3 more players averaging 8 or better. In the 1st game, Baylor had 5 players register double digit points and hit 9 of their 20 attempts from 3 (45%). Despite committing 22 turnovers, Baylor ended the game +1 on that metric as the Longhorns gave the ball away 23 times, their 2nd highest total of the season.

Vic said in his media availability that Madison (hamstring) and Deyona (ankle) would both try to practice yesterday hoping they'd be available tonight. Madison scored a game high 25 points in the 1st meeting between these 2 teams to go along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds. If she is able to play, she and Shaylee have to do a better job taking care of the ball. In the game in Austin, each had 5 turnovers.

  • Madison Booker was named to the Wooden Award Top 20 Watch List Tuesday. 2 other freshmen were included on a list that is usually dominated by seniors and juniors for National Player of the Year.
  • I said "#2 (for now) K-State" because they lost to unranked OU (sux) 66-63 last night for their first conference loss. This was the 4th game they've been without their All-American center Ayoka Lee (ankle) who is not expected to return for another 2 weeks. K-State shot up to #2 after a hectic week that saw 5 of the Top 10 lose at least 1 game (12 of the Top 25).
    • Those upsets included Longhorn great Kamie Ethridge's Washington State team beating #2 UCLA in Los Angeles, 85-82. The victory came at a huge cost for Wazzu though - they lost their best player by far, G Charlisse Leger-Walker, for the season to an ACL injury in the 3rd quarter with WSU up by 16.

2022 Aggie Recruiting Class

At the time, it was the highest rated class of all time. I just took 247 ranking with my blue collar research. (not a numbers geek)

They signed 8 5 stars and 16 4 stars

They now have 3 5 stars from that class & 11 4 stars remaining.

Probably still puts them as a top 5 class with remaining players. They lost quite a bit but still one of the most talented teams in SEC. Hope they lose 6 games this year!

Jamaal "fire alarm" Bowman calls GOP members Nazis

This is how it's done in Washington these days. Commit a possible criminal act and start launching attacks on your opponents.

It's amazing how many democrats have rushed to this guy's defense. Whoopi Goldberg is now a big fan of pulling fire alarms.

OT: Story time

In 2008 when #1 Texas played #11 Missouri at DKR college GameDay was in town.

My son was two and a half, so I saw this as a great opportunity to entertain my kid.

In those days, GameDay was located by the fountain in the South Mall.

So we parked near the Co-op somewhere and wandered across campus. Bevo was in the grass area South of the Main building. There was a decent size crowd. The band was there. It was a fun day.

As we were walking from Bevo across the main building Quad, a guy walked past us and said “You’re raising him right”.

Indeed we did, tonight he was accepted into the University of Texas, into the school he wanted, no autoadmit, so the hard way.

OT - Juice: Power, Politics & The Grid w/Robert Bryce

Hey Orangebloods. We just released a new docuseries on the fragility of the electric grid and it's worth a watch. We started with the Texas Blackout, but it's a much bigger story than just Texas. We hit on Enron, The Osage, Fukushima, and the war in Ukraine. We tried to keep the content somewhat light, which can be difficult with subject as complex as energy, and that's why each episode is around 20 minutes. We were fiscally sponsored by the International Documentary Association, so we're actually giving the entire series away for free. Check it out at www.JuiceTheSeries.com

Recommendation please for Downtown Dallas Dinner Restaurants

I am having a company meeting in downtown Dallas and we would like to go to a good restaurant for dinner. My colleagues are coming in from all over the country so I want to show them Dallas/Texas better food options.
It doesn’t need to be a luxurious restaurant probably but no BBQ. I think my colleagues are going to prefer restaurant that is ok with business casual or jeans for the dress code. There are going to be about 12-14 in our dinner group.

Someone in our group has mentioned Saint Anne and Las Palmas. Any thoughts on these two restaurants?

I would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!
