That will be the biggest loss this off-season,

From the outside, hard to argue against the success of the Stros in developing pitchers. I don't know how much of that is Strom personally and coaching contributions are harder to quantify (vs something like looking at minor league player stats), so have no idea about the pitching coaching depth within the organization. But it seems like it will be hard to be as good next year without Strom as this year with Strom.
Who are the internal shortstop candidates that are going to be able to replace even half of Correa's fWAR of 5.5 and DRS of 19 ( best among shortstop in MLB by a pretty wide margin). I get that keeping him will cost a lot but without spending a lot of money on his replacement the team is going to lose a lot on the field.Correct, but we have some possible internal solutions there. Not the case with a starter and I’m not sure we can count on the farm for those bullpen arms either. Would like to sign a nasty lefty to add to the pen for one thing.
You’re one of our greats; hope this winter treats well.To all my Stros bros, it was a great year, just wish we could’ve finished it off. But it was an honor to be a part of these Stros threads all year. I don’t think I’ve met bigger Astros fans than @magnahorn @60 @UTeach and many others. This will probably be my last post on OBs for a long time. I hope to be back next baseball season, and I might check in durning the Horns bball season from time to time, just depends if I keep my sub. Love you guys! Hook’em and go Stros.
It was not a “terrible” call. It was an “incorrect” call.
And potentially painfully long.Good season gents! The off season should be interesting to say the least.
Yeah that was just the first tweet I saw that showed itIt was not a “terrible” call. It was an “incorrect” call.
Few if any fully grasped exactly how that play unfolded as they watched in real time.

At least we could afford a roofI hear ya, but it’s from a cool angle, you made your park too small
That cold wet weather in Atlanta for Game 3 must've sucked ass.At least we could afford a roof
He will have some money to work with. He needs to find a new SS (probably) and some pitchers. The problem is the only true #1 hurler out there is Scherzer and he’s old. Robbie Ray is probably the next best but we will have to overpay to sign him because someone else will. We will find out how good Click is. He certainly solidified the bullpen this season so we do know he’s capable.Still processing the past 6-7 years. What a crazy crazy ride. Had we won another ring it would have been the greatest villain story of sports maybe ever told. Never the less it was the greatest run any Houston sports team has ever had. Now we get to see what Click is really all about.

That is great! It literally made me laugh.
I think we’re looking at a work stoppage/lock out. I just don’t see any way around it. The question is how long will it last. These types of things can get really nasty as neither side wants to lose.Does anyone on here know the likelihood of a work stoppage going into next season? It seems like there has been some issues between players and owners over the last couple of years. Are we looking at another short season coming up? Or is that too hard to predict?
Apparently Brent Strom is retiring. I hope his understudy is up for the task. Those are some really big shoes to fill.

Mattress Mack the GOAT.

he’s leaving the Astros that’s for sure. It remains to be seen if he goes to Detroit or not
That’s what I understood as well. That sounds like the life. Do what you love on a part time basis and still have free time for family/travel. Good for him. He’s earned itReading between the lines I would expect Strom to be at Spring Training with a club in a consultant type role but it sounds like he may be done be a pitching coach on a day to day basis. I believe he was actually already retired when Luhnow asked him to come to Houston in 2014.
It's not all on the pitching though. This team had plenty of opportunities and pitches to hit. For whatever reason they just didn't do it. It was a pretty pathetic showing offensively. Other than Fried's start last night nothing they rolled out there was outstanding. All hittable. They hit tougher in the past five years.I don’t think that was The Plan. No LMJ, a shell shocked Framber and a Greinke who was a shell of the guy who was dependable for 5 months were too much to overcome.
Opening Day is March 31 😀Great season, it sucks to come up 2 wins short. See you in May.
This cannot be understated. I think they are 2-9 in WS games at home or something stupid like that.Minute Maid jinx.
They were. Which tell you just how bad the Astros played for 6 games. But that's baseball. They were definitely the better team
Especially when you know you know you had the better squad and didn't get it done.Bitter pill to swallow in 2019 and 2021.
Been a pleasure fellow Astros fans. Look forward to off season talk.
At least in 2019 you ran into two legit pitching studs that have the ability to shut you down. And they did. This Braves team didn't have jack shit for the most part. Far inferior team that the Astros should never lose a seven game series to.2019 was more bitter — one of the best teams of all time, perhaps the best when healthy.
This squad had obvious holes. It was a fun ride, and an AL pennant is a good result.
