History is nice, but today's fans in their 20's, 30's, and 40's think of Texas as not nearly as elite as their fanbase likes to think they are.
You guys have history in both baseball and football. No one will dispute that. And it is a great history. The problem is with both football and baseball (less so with baseball) most of it was back when A&M was a military school and the other schools in the SWC/Big 12...were at a distinct competitive disadvantage. You guys had more money, more facilities, more everything. Heck, you should have won twice as many titles in both sports as you have with all the advantages you had. In baseball for many years, you guys had a really nice stadium while other schools played with a nice field and some bleachers. Since that has changed, statistics like those quoted above are vastly different. Right now, Texas Tech and TCU probably have the two best baseball programs in the state. Both our programs are behind them. In football, the Aggies have had the better football program 3 of the last 4 decades. You guys can dispute that, but those are the COLD HARD FACTS! You guys have had 1 great decade (2000's) and pretty much mediocre the other 3. We will see if Herman has turned the corner. He might have, but let's check back in mid-October for a better picture. What the hell are you talking about? Did I miss something, did you win something in the last 40 years that I don't know about? I'm pretty sure you have been mediocre for 4 of the last 4 decades.
When you look at overall records, conference championships, head to head, etc. during the 1980's, 1990's, and this decade, the program in College Station is clearly better. You guys were WAY ahead of us in the 2000's. So, if you want to say because you guys have won 1 NC in the last 40 years, you have been better over the last 40 years, maybe so. But looking at overall body of work, the program in College Station was better the other 3 decades. Plus, we are now more profitable according to Forbes, have a much nicer stadium, and play in a far more prestigious league.

You're more profitable because you make less gross than us and spend FAR less on your athletes from top to bottom. You NET more money than we do because you SPEND less on you athletes than we do.When you look at overall records, conference championships, head to head, etc. during the 1980's, 1990's, and this decade, the program in College Station is clearly better. We out gross aggy by about 3 million but we spend $61 MILLION more annually on our athletes.
That argument is settled. http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/
This link to USA today should clear up any of your misunderstandings.
As to the last 40 years- aggy has been ranked in the AP top 25 a respectable 17 times at the end of the season.
Texas has been ranked 22 times.
Now let's look at the decade specific to 1983-1994. The Jackie sherrill and RC Slocum years-
Mired by NCAA recruiting scandals, sherrill was fire for cheating. http://articles.latimes.com/1988-09-10/sports/sp-1477_1_recruiting-violations
You cheated big time and were caught. So wipe out those wins.
Then in 1994 you spent a year on probation with no TV and no bowl game because RC was just as dirty as Jackie. You had a booster actually PAYING players on his payroll in DALLAS while they were enrolled in college station. And he owned a construction company that was building section 8 housing with funds provided to him by FEDERAL HUD tax dollars. This stupid fvcking aggy was paying aggy players with US tax dollars. https://www.upi.com/Archives/1994/01/05/NCAA-places-Texas-AM-football-program-on-probation/4174757746000/
And btw, aggy was up for the death penalty but was spared only because of how badly it wrecked SMU as a program.
That sucking sound you just heard was all the air leaving your argument.
So in closing.
We make more.
We have more.
We spend more. (We're a non-for profit after all)
We win more.
We get ranked more.
We don't get put on NCAA probation.
We don't commit federal offenses by paying athletes with money designated to build affordable housing for poor people.
We win more and play in more New years bowl games(and all other bowl games)
We have national titles in two different centuries and have won several since the invention of atom bombs, jet airplanes, fuel injection systems, panzer tanks and hula hoops. The Davy Crockett coon skip cap was popular twenty years AFTER your only national title. Think about that.
Ok I'm done with this guy.
Who's next?
I'll add that the stone age 1939 national title was awarded to Cornell, USC and a&m. It was split and not even unanimous. aggy needs to put an asterisk next to the 1939 National Champions* on their pyle stadium wall, along with the other erroneous/dishonest "championships" they have listed.
Texas could claim an additional 5 championships if they used the same approach as aggy - 1914, 1941, 1968, 1977 and 1981. Glad we don't.
More than that, actually. Other ratings systems have also named Texas the national champion in 1918, 1930, 1945, 1947, 1950, 1964, 1983, and 2008, and possibly other earlier years that I'm forgetting.
Also glad that Texas doesn't claim any of that crap. This retroactive piling up of MNCs is just stupid. It's a recent thing, too (Bama, perhaps the worst offender, didn't claim anything but Bryant's MNCs until after he was dead), and it has accelerated in the last decade or so.
