Inexplicably, today, I decided to pick up and read "Empire of the Summer Moon", after owning it a decade. Imagine my surprise when, just pages in, I discovered that May 19th was the start of the end of the Comanches, when they raided the westernmost settlement in Texas, and set in motion the end of their existence.
