1. On the heels of DeAndre McNeal's indefinite suspension from the Texas football program on Wednesday, there's probably nowhere else to begin a discussion today than with the possible goodbye to a player that was a key member of the 2015 recruiting class.
While the official word on McNeal at the moment is that he's indefinitely suspended, my guess is that we've seen the last of McNeal in a Texas uniform, which is to say we never really got to see him in a Texas uniform in the first place.
Without getting into the specifics of the unconfirmed details that led to the suspension, let's just say that in 2016 there are some things you can come back from after suspension, but there's a good chance this situation isn't one of them. More than anything else, McNeal needs to take a timeout, get his life together and then begin the process of trying to get back on the right track.
If what we're hearing is true, It just can't be in Austin at The University of Texas.
2. On the bright side of the things, I continue to hear very good things about the pursuit of five-star Houston Episcopal offensive line prospect Walker Little. As we reported on Tuesday, Little will be in Austin for the Notre Dame game next month and there are a lot of signs that point to the Longhorns being the leader in his recruitment at the moment.
From what I was told from a dialed in source, the task for Charlie Strong is to simply make sure that he doesn't give Little a reason to think he shouldn't attend Texas. Basically, the vibe seems to be that if the Longhorns show progress on the field, don't get embarrassed like we've seen too many times in the last two years and there isn't a feeling that Strong will be coaching for his life next season, there's a very good chance that Little will end up a Longhorn.
The wildcard in play that benefits the Longhorns is the non-football intangibles that at this moment play in its favor.
3. After almost two full decades, I've decided that it's time to change things up with one of the franchise pieces of content at Orangebloods... the War Room. Beginning next week, we're going to begin dropping War Room nuggets as they come to us throughout the week, instead of holding things for our Thursday night article. We're still going to have a Thursday night War Room, but depending on the information and the timeliness of it, we'll release on whatever day/night of the week that we receive it. While the idea is still a work in progress, it's a direction that I am quite committed to going towards. Stay tuned.
4. LA Rams running back Tre Mason appears to be in some personal trouble after being admitted into a South Florida hospital in late July because of "erratic" behavior and the team hasn't been in contact with him in seven months. The team has expressed concern, but how concerned can you really be if you haven't made contact with the guy in seven months. I'm not sure Jeff Fisher and Co. understand what the word "concerned" really means because none of the team's actions would indicate it is concerned. If this was happening to Todd Gurley instead of Mason, I think we'd see what being concerned actually looks like.
5. All I want for Christmas this year is for this guy to stay healthy.
