ITS A HAPPY SATURDAY BOYS! HOOK'EM

With that being said,

what did you see improvements on today? What did you see not improve? Anyone surprise you?

I for one think Sam played "ok" and we still dont know, but he shows promise as a freshman and has a cannon.

2nd. Our D-line still no push and we still got i think no sacks or maybe one towards the end. USC will tear us apart in the secondary if thats the case next week.

1)Sam played horrible at first by missing on a few pass plays but ended up finishing fairly well.
2) It was about time they used Warren.
3) Holton Hill is playing like an All-American.
4) The D-line will continue to struggle if they don't go to a 4 down linemen.
5) D.Elliott played a bad game.
6) UT played better but this was against SJst. If the D doesn't get better and apply pressure to USC, we will see a beat down. If we see improvement, we will see a upset

GOOD THINGS

1. G. Johnson at LB played well, should start.
2. M. Jefferson also played well. Wasn't out of position.
3. C. Warren played great. Why does Porter even get reps?
4. H. Hill is our best corner. Looking for him to be more physical.
5. Sam has a much stronger arm than Boo and runs better too.

BAD THINGS

1. Duvernay doesn't get the ball enough. Nether does Johnson. Got to fix that.
2. D Line - still no sacks?? We're not very good there.
3. Kicker - this guy stinks.
4. Porter goes down too easy but has big legs so is confusing.

Toniel Carter might be the best RB on the roster (all things considered)...he needs to get more snaps.
Dorian Leonard needs to be #1 in targets every week.
Gray is a terrible TE and needs to not play...just forego a TE this year.
Holton Hill making DBU proud
Texas needs to find at least 1 safety worth a piss
The OL has me worried
I like Ehlinger more than Buechele (seems to know how to finish more)
Gary Johnson and Malik Jefferson need to be on the field together...a lot
The kicker Texas has is not very good...that could be a problem

Considering it was San Jose St. I don't put much into it. BUT here are my bright spots.

1. Sam - Did better than I expected NO INT's or fumbles.
2. Warren-406 yards from all the RB's/QB's.
3. Heard (4th RB) at QB but possibly gets to throw.
4. WR-Lorenzo Joe, Armanti Foreman, Mapps and Collin Johnson.
5. Holton Hill
6. 6-68 in Penalties is better than Week 1.

Concerns
1. DB's were letting San Jose's receivers just run past them.
2. Special Teams Coverage and Field Goals are horrible.
3. No Sacks (1 late in game)-Concerned due to USC QB and Big 12 QB's.

No pass rush, Corners/Safety's were beat on several occasions that should have lead to SJSU points. LB's are much better with Johnson on the field, Why is Roach on the inside??? We don't have a kicker!!!!!! They slow played SAM, go figure. But the kid probably should have thrown 4 picks versus a worthy adversary. It was growth, but now they play a team that will take advantage of every little mistake.

In the end, I'm glad they pitched a shutout, I'm glad they pounded the rock with Warren and the tackling was much-much better... It was a good day!

Hemphill needs to get his shit straight! Foreman sucks!

Pretty much all this. Between Maryland and SJSU our QBs have lucked out of about 7 interceptions. Their accuracy needs to improve. This secondary is going to get lit up a lot.

I agree not putting to much into it but it was a DECENT team. SJS played USF pretty damn good. With that being said i also dont think the score should ever be different from what it was today. Texas should always destroy this team.

I'm going to have to watch it a third time tonight. I'm noticing some tendencies with the offensive play calling and I can't quite put my head around it yet-- and I don't want to shoot my mouth off unless I'm 100% certain. @CoachEmUp64 did you notice anything about our running formations vs passing formations particularly with the Oline?

I dont think we used our entire playbook. Still looked maybe 50%. I bet we see a lot of new stuff next week.

So I am no football guru or anything like that; however, I have watched the Overdrive cast on LHN I think 3 times this week and one thing that I have noticed is that Warren has no vision. He knows which hole is supposed to go to, but there were at least 3 different times that if he makes a cut off of where he is going, he can add 10-15 yards to carries. Like he knows the playbook but doesn't really have the "feel" that is needed.

Warren is built to run people the furk over. There's zero finesse/squirt through the hole in his game. He's not shifty.

Agree he's not a Jaamal Charles. His main goal is to run your ass over and get the defense tired of tackling him. He can easily "Break the will" of the defense, who wants to keep tackling a 250LB bowling ball time after time. Especially those DB's!

Like the time last game when he decided to hurdle that DB so he wouldn't have to run over him. I'm surprised he didn't hurt himself trying to do that. He has the size but he doesn't play like it.

That hurdle got him like 5 extra yards. As a runner there is NO reason to turn into a hit when you can get more yards by not taking the hit.

Warren's PT has been so limited due to injuries I don't understand why everyone has such a negative opinion on him. If you don't trust him staying healthy I get that, otherwise if healthy he's our most valuable weapon outside of Williams. That may be like being the worlds tallest midget, but still there are lots of people that need to step up their game before his skill set is to blame.

Use him as a battering ram until his wheels fall off, As for Beck calling he and Porter universal...That's blasphemy! I'd rather see Young and Carter get more carries and Carter may very well be the most versatile back.

Porter has shown nothing other than being good in pass protection.

I'm not expecting Barry Sanders, but one cut at the second level to avoid a LB would be a welcome change.
I think Toneil Carter is going to be a player for us.

I agree....when Porter breaks a tackle it may be the first tackle he has broken since he got to Texas. Beck saying Porter and Warren are interchangeable was just dumb.
