Spring Dekaney CB Marcus Banks recently decommitted from LSU. I mentioned a couple weeks ago in the War Room that Banks had stated he wanted to take an official visit to UT, but at that time it was more just Banks wanting to set up a visit rather than Texas pushing to get him in for an official visit.
Well, last weekend Banks made his way to Austin for an unofficial visit to watch the West Virginia game. I did communicate with Banks on Sunday, who said it was a good visit overall. Banks said he's keeping an open mind (doesn't know where he'll take his last couple official visits) but he enjoyed the time talking to Jason Washington and Texas is still on his mind.
There's been talk that any renewed interest in Banks could cause Texas commitment Kenyatta Watson to look around and take other visits. That certainly is a situation worth monitoring, but as of Monday night, Watson doesn't have any other visits set up and hasn't talked to any other schools about taking visits. Could that change? Of course. But nothing is in the works as of right now.
This is a bit of a delicate situation because Watson always believed Texas was going to take only two corners (him and Marquese Caldwell). He's not afraid of competition - him committing to UT after last year's DB haul is proof of that - but he and his family were surprised by the Banks visit (as well as one by CB Kaiir Elam, although I don't think there's anything to really report there). I believe the Watsons were supposed to talk to the Texas coaches tonight, so it's likely that any issues/concerns will be cleared up. We'll let you know if anything changes.
