Another day, another huge commitment for Texas.

After picking up a commitment from Rivals250 linebacker Ayodele Adeoye on Sunday night, the Texas Longhorns were at it again on Monday afternoon, this time picking up a huge commitment from top national safety B.J. Foster. The Angleton product announced his decision on Twitter moments ago.

Foster, a Rivals100 member, chose the Longhorns over a final grouping of Texas, TCU, Michigan, Ohio State and LSU. He becomes the third defensive back commitment for Texas, joining Caden Sterns and DeMarvion Overshown.

In Foster, who checks in at 6-2 and 193 pounds, Texas gets a player who has as much potential as any defensive back in the nation (he’s the nation’s second-ranked safety prospect), and one who could the Longhorns’ secondary in a variety of ways.

“I would say looking at him, looking at Caden (Sterns), those are two guys who are big defensive backs who can play safety or corner, just from how strong they are in coverage,” said Rivals.com regional recruiting analyst Nick Krueger. “It’s amazing how well they both move at that size. Watching B.J. play, everything is really natural to him. He’s really instinctual. He doesn’t get caught in bad spots, doesn’t make bad plays and overextend himself.”

Foster played in only five games as a junior season after suffering a knee injury. He’s well on his way to a full recovery, and Krueger said Foster could see his ranking elevated to five-star status if he has a strong senior season.

“I kind of feel he probably would have been a five star with us had that injury not occurred. Him being a four star right now, that’s more a product of him being in a holding pattern with us,” Krueger said. “We want to make sure he can pick up where he left off. If he shows that, that (five-star) is the kind of player he is. If you look at Jeffrey Okudah from last year, it’s the same story with his skill set, his body type, his style of play, him just wanting to be a part of the play.”

Foster becomes the Longhorns’ 12th commitment in the 2018 class and Texas’ fourth commitment in less than a week. He is Texas’ fourth commitment off the Rivals100.
