That’s the most recent recruiting ranking for the two blood rivals. You’ll notice the numbers 3 and 4, signifying where each ranked in the 247Sports Composite. The Horns edged ‘em by a razor-thin margin, despite the Aggies having a few more commits.

Some A&M fans are perturbed. The line of thinking is that 247Sports juiced some players’ ratings really late in the recruiting cycle so that the Horns would edge the Aggies — and most of the rest of the country. A few examples:

Honestly, I'm getting tired of this atm vs TX stuff. I really don't care about them or what they are doing....at all. Until we are forced to play again or meet up in the playoffs (yeah I know. Lulz) they are no different than any other team we don't play. #dontcare

As an Aggie, I think this is all pretty stupid. The 3 guys everyone is complaining about are Warren, Owens, and Hoofkin. The only guys I think are obviously over rated are Wiley & Hoofkin. I think the same could be said for Trainor and Lane in our class. I'll probably end up wrong about a couple of those kids.

Really like the LB ya'll landed from California and the WR from St. Louis (I like him more than the kid everyone else loves from Arizona & McCoy). Your WR class is filthy.

Warren is a low 4 star composite. Sounds about right to me. Sure, LSU didn't want him. But it isn't like he is rated super high. I actually like him a lot.

Owens is a mid 4 star composite. Sounds like he is a 5 star talent, and a high 3 star football player right now. His rating seems a little high to me, but I get it. He is big, long and fast as hell. He could really develop in time. 247's rating seems high, but his composite is justifiable.

Hoofkin. Well I don't get this one. But Shepherd is criminally underrated if ratings are based off potential, so I'll call it a wash.

I like A&M's class a little better, but also understand my own bias. I'd be fine it you guys finished 3rd and we finished 4th every year.

To me, the whole ranking thing is just a way to sell offseason enthusiasm and for us rabid fans to compare peckers.
Although it happens, it's kinda rare for a kid to be a program changing player. We've both had plenty of rockstars develope into duds and the inverse is also true. To lose ones mind over a class ranking spot is crazy to me. There's no telling how beneficial a class is until some time has passed.
