Cars last longer

The economy drives part of this, but IMO, cars are built MUCH better than before.
I think the rise of the Japanese car manufactures forced Detroit to make quality products.
Detroit’s mantra was “programmed obsolescence“. They engineered cars to fall apart after four years and they guaranteed a market.
Now cars last way longer. Detroit screwed themselves.
