Bailor v Horns game thread

Just pathetic. These guys have no clue what class, dignity and respect mean. I'm sure it has to do with the song. Just amazes me that all these young dudes think they're doing something that is virtuous and worthy of respect from others. Kneeling because of the song's alleged origins? Really? What about all those cotton clothes that he wears everyday? Didn't slaves pick a lot of cotton back in the day? Why doesn't he protest cotton clothes? This is how ridiculous this has become. Tom Herman has enabled them to act like clowns and this is the primary reason we suck this year. They've been taught to hate their country, hate their university and hate white and black people who think independently. I bet they put their protesting and marching down on their resume and actually believe it will help them land an opportunity somewhere. And there's our university kow-towing to these entitled clowns and actually taking them seriously. We're not winning any football games nor any championships in other sports if our university continues to promote victimization and "oppression" of minorities as the single most important issue of our time. My fear is that type of cancerous culture will drive away a coach like UM. If we don't turn this crap around quick we're going to turn into the next Nebraska. That school is a lost cause and will probably never go back to becoming a true blue blood college program.

They never said anything about Slaves beating and whipping other slaves and liking it, to get special treatment from the Big House! Chk your history books!

No more G5 coaches. No more "up and comers". Tired of all the "on the job learning" that occurs at Texas. Herman and Smart learn slowly and have poor results. Texas is not serious about winning so why should Texas fans spend any money?

👍👍👍
Agree Nueces. Not just no more G5 coaches, but hell no! I’m so done with the mentality of hoping to contend; maybe we’ll contend; the new coach just needs his guys in the system (which is just an excuse to give a coach a free pass for the first 3 years).
Our standard has fallen to “this is the year”. For a few powerhouses, every year is the year to be in the playoffs.
No to a G5 coach.
No to a learning on the job coach.
No to an up and coming coach.
No to a “this is our year” standard.
YES to a coach for whom “every year” is the standard.

So just established P5 or NFL coaches with multiple years of sustained success at the highest levels.

You guys are going to have to become a little more realistic about the current level of appeal for our HC job.

I don’t think the issue is a lack of appeal as viewed by HC candidates. We haven’t become Nebraska ... yet. But, one more HC strikeout and continued administration chaos and we’ll be close.
The issue is more the willingness on the part of the administration and ability to close the deal on a tier 1 HC. Do they have the willingness and gonads to hit a home run? Or, are they fine with the status quo?

The 1A candidate is obvious. Beyond that, there is likely quibbling about candidates 2-5. I’ve stated before who my 1B candidate is and provided support. I personally haven’t gone beyond 1B yet. But, if, as a fan base, we include up and coming HCs and coordinators in the discussion, then we’re already acting like a G5 program. Maybe we’re already there. If so, thanks for correcting me. My contributions will stop tomorrow.

I agree with everyone that UM is the obvious hire at this point, but after that the list I see becomes a group of candidates that would have no reason to leave their current situations to coach at Texas. When you combine that with the fact that the last time we went after established P5 coaches, those coaches parlayed Texas into pay raises.

I say that our criteria should be tough hard-nosed coach that has a proven history of recruiting and developing nfl level talent. We don't need a CEO type, we need a football coach. F the BMDs. F the SJWs.

Identify candidates that meet that criteria and hire the one you think is most capable and not the one with the nicest CV.

With a fanbase that generates $150,000,000/yr in revenue, we should have the BEST coach. That number can be cut substantially if they lose the fanbase. Our administration is approaching jerah jones level of incompetence.

T1...
Urban Meyer
Mike Tomlin
Kyle Shanahan
John Harbaugh
Nick Saban
Dabo Swinney

T2...
James Franklin
Gus Malzahn
Brian Kelly
Kirby Smart

T3...
Jeremy Pruitt
Matt Campbell
David Shaw
Mario Cristobal

I may have missed a few in tier 2 and 3 but I think this gives you an idea of what I think.

So we are going to have an opportunity for 1 T1 guy because he's unemployed and 1 T2 guy because he's probably going to get fired.

I don't see anyone on the tier 1 list except UM that is realistic. I would not consider JH as tier 1, but he might be able to be had. Can you sell hiring JH based on his recent years at his old school and inability to win against his rival?

Has Ehlinger mentioned anything about coming back next year? I’m assuming he can since this year is a mulligan from what I hear? Not sure if coming back would help his draft status but it may.

Most people are assuming he's gone, but I imagine it will all depend on how the season ends. I am also assuming that one of those things that will weigh heavily on his decision is the locker room attitude.

It’s a power house for the non power 5 level. Probably going to be 3 straight years with 10 or more wins. I’d give them a decent shot at finishing top 3 in the big 12 this year honestly

Meh, still don't agree, but that's fine. We'll see how they finish the year. A mid-major program needs to at least win its conference title a single time and manage to finish somewhere higher than No. 21 in the polls, if not reach an NY6 bowl and take the scalp of a major power, before they're deserving of that description, in my opinion.

Yeah. John Harbaugh is going to leave the Baltimore Ravens, where he makes $9M/yr, to be our coach.

Didn't see weevil claim that we would be able to hire any of them. He put Saban and Dabo on that list as well. Seems he's just identifying the best coaches for the job, in his opinion, regardless of whether they would come here (or, in a couple of cases, whether Texas would hire them).

My point is that 3 of the top 5 teams in the country have HCs that would not have been in Tier 1-3 when they got their current job.

One of the Tier 1 coaches had 6 games of experience as a coordinator for a team that was so bad their coach resigned during the season.

Hire the guy you believe has the best chance to win.

Then don’t ask them. You want the best, you have to ask them.
After about 20 phone calls, we’ll get to your #1 choice I guess.

Holy shit man. Have you ever hired anyone? Recruited anyone?

No, I don't have a lot of experience hiring people.

Is that how you do your hiring? Calling the premiere people in the field, with an extended tenure in an entrenched program and asking them to take a pay cut and start over. And when they all reject you, you hire someone from what should have been your original list. That hire will be labeled as your 7th or 8th choice, and you will look like you run a clown college.

So you actually think that you just assume premiere coaches wouldn’t want to come to a premiere job. We’re not ****ing Rice dude, lol.

And yeah, when I was looking for an assistant I called HCs from top programs first.
When I was recruiting at smaller college, I contacted top JUCOs for players.
I went for the best I could get.

If I was CDC, I’d behave in the same manner.

I mean, are you just screwing with me? Because your stance makes absolutely zero sense.

You like to piss into the wind a lot. I get it.

That's not my point anyway. My point is not to limit your search to just a preset group of coaches and unilaterally exclude others because they have't been here or done that.

If tier one can't be had you stick with Herman until a better candidate comes forward. This job is unique and only a certain few can do it well. It makes no sense to enter another contact with someone who will likely fail as well, you would only kick the can down the road further.

If TH goes 5-5 or worse, I'm pulling the plug. And anyone in my tier 2 would be just fine with me, especially James Franklin
