BASEBALL COLLEGE WORLD SERIES THREAD: Texas' special season ends in heartbreak.. (Sat. 11:15 p.m.)

Bottom line guys is it's hard to win too many games with as few hits as we got. They had some good pitching. Props to them.

Proud of these young men! They played their hearts out and came up just short. Their two losses were from a combined 2 runs. The future is very bright and we have the right staff in place to get our next championship. Hook Em and hang your heads high for what was a great season!

Simply looking for a ground ball in which he got, unfortunately it bounced over our heads.
totally agree, i said as much 30 pages ago if you want to go find it. still has nothing to do with the point i'm making. pierce was only willing to use 3 arms in the pen... that is lighter than you would like in omaha.

i'll quote myself here, but this was my biggest fear coming into omaha. if pierce was not so afraid of the rest of his pen, he brings one of them in for stevens earlier. instead, he was trying to stretch stevens to give more runway for cole.
Of course he was. Not many college teams have 3 dependable relievers, much less 4.

We won 3 games in Omaha, and lost two one-runners. Sometimes that’s how baseball goes.

A good season! They held up and represented themselves and our university well! They accomplished things the football and basketball team haven’t for some time. We have hope now in the big 3. We appear to have the right coaches. Thanks guys. Let it ride!

I've been posting in football and baseball game threads for years.

It was a bad throw. And I made a comment at the moment in a game thread. Have you read game threads? It doesn't seem like it. Because that was all there was to it.

Settle down, Beavis. Congrats on your posting! I've been in multiple baseball threads this season, and read most of them, watching every game. You criticized a player, in a tense moment, that has performed well and is a big reason for being here. That's all.

i haven't looked at the vandy or nc st box scores, but i know msu threw a lot more than 3 guys out of the pen. sometimes you gotta throw the other guys out there to eat some innings to save your big dogs.

Great season! These guys were mentally tough, scrappy and a joy to root for all season. Hopefully, all of the freshmen improve with the bat and we add a couple too. Pitching was definitely good enough to win but we need to give them support. We were undefeated when scoring 5 or more and when we led after 6 for the season. Those are insane statistics at the college level.

Anybody blaming Pierce for not winning this doesn’t know the game. Losing the first game is tough for anyone even if you have a deep staff and great pen. Having 21 strikeouts in game 1 is the problem. Much better contact today but we couldn’t find many holes and they found enough.

Alright. Looking to next year. Who plays 1st, third, center, and possibly LF? Who are our 3 starters? Hansen, Kolby, and who else? Witt? DH? We have some major power to replace.

1st - Gavin Kash
3B - Stehly
CF - Todd
RF - Hodo
LF - Kennedy or Campbell
SS - Faltine
2B - Daly
C - Ardoin
DH - Powell / Kash

Fri - Hansen
Sat - Witt
Sun - TBD (possibly Hutchins or Josh Stewart)
Mid-week - Arthur or Hutchins or Stewart

Setup - Duplantier
Closer - Nixon
Relief - Grossman
Relief - Gordon
LH Relief - Harrison

Well, at least now I don’t have to listen to orange-blinded Horn fans make excuses for losing to Vandy.😎🤘

No idea how many pitchers MSU used but they played one less game. And in their two wins against us, they used one reliever. The same one.

Winners bracket vs losers is a huge deal.

Texas didn't have much faith in Gordon who has good stuff, but also has a tendency to have trouble locating at times. Tonight is where having a guy like Duplantier would have been huge.
I would have gone to Q earlier and tried to protect a lead. If we could have got to the 9th with a lead you could put in Nixon. Not ideal. But he could’ve gone.

but I do agree a deeper pen would have made it easier.

That’s a really good looking team right there. Plus they’ve got some solid post season experience and hunger to get back to Omaha and finish it off. I think the difference maker will be the bats. Got to be more consistent and improve on the swing and misses.

of course... if we win game 1, we most likely sail into the finals without going beyond the big 3 relievers. once you hit the losers bracket, you gotta go deeper. hell, going back to witt for too much last night almost cost us. no idea who was going to close for us tonight if we had taken the lead. it is what it is at this point.

There are also some other guys that could make big strides in the offseason.

Cam Constantine and Dalton Porter are both young and can play.

For pitching, there are a lot of guys and there is definitely going to be a lot of attrition, but big summer and falls coming up for Caden Noah, Travis Sthele and Jared Southard.
