This doesn't specify whether they were released unconditionally, though. (Baylor could release players with conditions to force them to appeal the decision if they wanted to play for in-state or Big 12 teams.)

Baylor University Grants Releases To Five Football Signees

June 23, 2016 WACO, Texas Baylor University has granted a release from the National Letter of Intent to the five members of the Bears’ 2016 football recruiting class who formally requested such release prior to May 31.

Several members of the 2016 class enrolled for the first session of summer school, which began last month, and are participating in the Bears’ strength and conditioning program. Additional class members are expected to join the program for the second session of summer school in July.

“I wanted the opportunity to talk with our signees and their families before providing any releases,” said Baylor Acting Head Football Coach Jim Grobe. “This has never been about whether or not we would ultimately provide individuals with a release; we simply asked that we go through the process outlined by the NLI, take some time and have the chance to speak with the student-athletes and their parents. I’ve enjoyed those opportunities to meet with these families and wish each individual success in all that they do in life.

“I am very impressed with the young men who are here at Baylor and on our team,” he added. “We have great student-athletes who are working hard, committed to success and being a part of something special. I am committed to each one in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.”

Fall camp for Baylor’s 2016 football season begins Aug. 4 ahead of the Bears’ Sept. 2 season-opener against Northwestern State.

That's it BRB rain all over my parade.

Haha, sorry.

It would likely only serve as a stalling tactic. Conditional releases from NLIs are not allowed, but Baylor could apparently attach conditions in order to force the former signees to appeal the decisions if Baylor wants to delay these players' joining other in-state or Big 12 programs or create enough of a hassle that one or more of them might just say screw it and go somewhere not covered by the conditions.

Why the players would have to appeal to have the impermissible conditions removed is beyond me, but that's apparently how it works.

Patrick Hudson is the most crushing loss on this list. Donavan Duvernay was inevitable. Dyk that Kam Martin had a tattoo with Baylor initials and a Bible verse? They will be fortunate to keep Brandon Bowen he's the best player left from the uncommitted list. Eventually Baylor fans will realize that the person who was responsible for all this was not their regents but Art Briles.

I'm happy for Strong to take his pick of these players. With that said, it's been reported that many of these players did not seek releases from Baylor bc they were upset about the rape culture with in the program, rather, they wanted releases because they were mad that Briles was fired.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm super concerned with our players being model citizens, I'll settle for them not being criminals, but it's just a little concerning to me where their heads were at.

Now tell me more about his Hudson fellow, who is already tweeting at Malik...

What did you expect?

I got on a high horse about BU not caring about these athletes, that these kids entire life is football and that they may not want their name and reputations attached to BU. Then I started reading and realized that most (all?) of them were just mad Briles got canned and I stopped caring about them.

Bowen didn't get in. Academics. Which is why both OU and UT back off of him.

Hudson, Kam, Donavan come on down

Hudson is a day 1 starter at Gaurd

Cobb very well may be in the mix too, would love to have him

Will give Strong back to back top 5 classes, it's going to be fun times down in Austin

If UT want all 5, they will get all 5

For the 85 limit they can make room. Where they can't make room is the 25 man class limit. Our EE count towards last class, but unless one of Fowler or Southall don't make it in we only have 4 spots available.

I hear what you're saying but these are kids and have no clue yet what it means to be a man. Hopefully if they come to UT Strong can instill some discipline and what it means to be a model student and citizen. I have a daughter that's 17 and the things she tells me that friends say just blows my mind but then I think they're children still and have no clue what the real world is like. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to thinking their coach is their life but what I can't do is give adult fans or alumni the same because they should really know better.

Fair enough, but these are also kids that picked against Texas for a reason. I am not nearly as gung ho for getting all of them as some on here seem to be.Hudson, I believe would have chosen Texas in the first place had he just had himself to think about. I also seem to remember something about a bailer asst coach sending in Hudsons LOI early without Hudson giving the ok....whatever. If he does decide to enroll at Texas, then great, but he might not have that choice. Not a real choice. If he signs with Texas, his sister might not even have a chance to attend college at all (Baylor is that scummy). At any rate, I am not sure I even want any of the others.

Is that right? I thought we could non-renew a walk-on to make them all fit.

War room:

What an unexpectedly wild Thursday ...

At 5:45 p.m. I sat at my desk making calls for the War Room, trying to gather information on some of the 2016 Baylor signees who were awaiting word on their release from their National Letters of Intent.

I was following up with a couple sources after receiving a call from a Baylor signee on Wednesday morning. In that conversation, I was told by one recruit that the players were expecting word to come down on Friday or Saturday, and after hearing for a few weeks that they would not be granted their release, the player I spoke with was now hearing that the players would be given their full releases.

On Thursday, I'm literally on the phone with a key source close to offensive lineman Patrick Hudson, and Baylor issues a press release stating five players have been granted their release. Obviously, that changed the course of our conversation immediately.

In typical Baylor fashion, names were not mentioned in the press release, and the players who were released had not been notified when the press release was put out. In fact, most of them weren't directly notified when I followed up a couple hours later. Ridiculous.

What you need to know:The five who have been released are OL Patrick Hudson, RB Kameron Martin, ATH Donovan Duvernay, OL J.P. Urquidez and DB Parrish Cobb.

How might this affect Texas?:This could be huge for the Longhorns. Here's a bit of what I picked up from various sources on Thursday evening ...

--- Texas cannot take all five players. Once the players receive their full documentation finalizing their release, the UT staff will have some tough decisions to make. Right now, the UT staff is still working through scholarship numbers, but what I heard on Thursday night is that three is a likely target number with four a possibility.

---This thing could change before the night is over, but as of Thursday night, one person I spoke with feels Texas is the leader for all five players as they re-enter the recruiting process. Obviously, Texas will have to close the deal on the guys it wants and numbers will be an issue, but the Longhorns are in great shape with all five players.

--- I talked to Kam Martin, who was finally able to confirm with people at Baylor that he had been released. As one would expect, Martin plans to make a quick turnaround with his decision and would like to settle on a school next week, if possible. If the UT staff makes him a priority, look for Martin to take a visit to Texas in the very near future. I expect Martin to stay close to home, so keep an eye on other in-state schools like TCU. If the numbers work out, I fully expect Martin to be a Longhorn.

--- Not much new to report on Patrick Hudson from what I've been saying for the last month. Texas is the team to beat there and nothing has changed.

"He's probably going to take visits. But I know he was leaning close to Texas," a key source told me on Thursday night.

Obviously, Texas has room for Hudson and he's an automatic take. Look for that to happen.

--- With Devin Duvernay signing with Texas on Thursday, Donovan Duvernay is a no-brainer. He'll be a Longhorn, and it will probably happen the second his release is finalized.

--- Cornerback Parrish Cobb has always felt like an OU lean, but I'm told that's not the case right now. From what I'm hearing on Thursday night, the momentum Texas has picked up with the commitment of Devin Duvernay (and presumably Patrick Hudson) has helped the Longhorns' cause with Cobb. Texas can't have any contact with Cobb until his release is finalized, but I'm hearing he has expressed behind the scenes that he has a genuine interest in joining the Longhorn program.

---J.P. Urquidez's situation is a little tougher to predict. Again, one person who would know told me on Thursday that the Longhorns could be considered leaders for all five players who were granted their release. But numbers could be an issue for Urquidez. If Texas gets Duvernay, Hudson and possibly Cobb and/or Martin, there may not be room for Urquidez.

--- Bottom line, this thing has some moving parts and the decisions of one or two guys could impact others. But this thing should be settled quickly since UT's second summer session starts on July 11, and the Longhorns are in a heck of a spot right now. (Suchomel)
