Bet I can name the 4 playoff teams for next year

As for UNC and Brown, all I can say are questions. Did DeLoss et al never have a come to Jesus mtg with Mack about his performance and future at Texas? Could no amount of counseling or coaxing have helped Brown get things back on track? Having wondered about this, though, I remember well all those frustrating Mack Brown losses against the likes of OU and UCLA, well before his big loss against Bama, which marked the decline.

Bama and Ohio state for sure
Then...
Insert Clemson, ND, Big 12 champ, Pac 12 champ.... And of course the second SEC team.

That's it for the next few.

Colt going down broke Mack’s brain. He took it extremely hard and made the very poor decision to go towards a run first offense like bama’s. It basically broke his program and it didn’t help that he was not working nearly as hard. He was burned out. He needed the time away. I just wish he could’ve admitted that about himself instead of burning his program down out of spite.

Clemson plays Georgia in the opening game of the season next year. If UGA wins that game, but loses the SEC Championship game to Bama (as usual), they’d likely be ahead of Clemson in the CFB Playoff pecking order even if Clemson goes on to win the ACC (also, as usual).

It’s also worth noting that Notre Dame will lose 8 starters on offense (including 4 OL), and another 6 starters on defense, so I don’t think ND will be crashing the CFB playoff party next year.

Net-net: next year could be yet another unbearable season with OU and 2 SEC teams in the Playoffs. Yuck!

Not so certain the dominance of the Big 3 will still exist in 5 years. 3 reasons.
1) Very likely Saban will retire.
2) With the impatience of todays prima donna recruits, many will enter the 1 time free immediate play transfer portal to get better playtime opportunities, so the the depth will be depleted, & more teams will be able to challenge.
3) Those transfers & expanding the playoffs will diversify the talent & dominance among more teams.

Losing great QBs doesn’t slow these programs down.
I am not as confident about the tOSU QB situation. Clemson and Alabama have more than capable QBs coming in, but they could have problems if they have a QB injury, as could any team. The advantage that Clemson and Alabama have is they are so deep at every position that even a conservative QB should be able to carry them in their conferences as other conference teams are losing more than they are reloading.

OU only has to worry about Texas, if Herman is gone.

I don't know that the Big 10 is a weak as the other conferences and tOSU will have a tougher battle. I expect they will prevail, but they are the one that has the highest risk of failure.

BlowU should have been there this year.

Hook'em

You can't lose 2 games like they did and make the playoff. Not saying they don't have the talent or weren't playing well enough, just that the system isn't set up for teams to recover from starts like that.

Except when it does... agree on Bama for the most part. They may have some growing pains, but there's not a big threat in their division, so it's unlikely they won't make their CCG at least. Clemson has a highly rated QB behind Sunshine, but I'm not familiar with who's holding the clipboard at tOSU. The buckeyes looked shaky after their first 3 blow outs... they have a ton of talent and it doesn't look like there are any sure bets ready to take over in the B1G... Cincy seems like a flash (as does Indiana)...

I wish they would move to a 6 or 8 team CFP... it would make this time of year much more enjoyable.

Perhaps, not this one

but I’m expecting a huge shift in philosophy next year with offense

just a gut feeling
You must be expecting a coaching change. I don't know why you'd think Mensa and Yucich would change their stripes. I honestly think we could be pretty damn dynamic if the OL can develop and stay healthy. Casey could be an interesting spark for this offense. If Drayton, Yurcich and Herman will simply allow for five more touches per game for Bijan, we might be formidable.

Yes
Knew this was coming

wait

what

Probably - those 4 teams already have a lock on a lot of the top ‘22 ‘cruits.

Some other team is going to have to start paying some players or this will continue for the foreseeable future

All that has to happen is for the College Playoff to be expanded to 6 then 8 teams and everything will level out. There will be more money for TV and ESPN than ever.
